Las Brisas Elementary School located on Alameda Rd and accessible via Alameda Road. They can be…read moresomewhat difficult to find since it's surrounding area is residential or mountain which is unlike The traditional Phoenix style grid system roadways. If you're trying to find the school for the first time it would be best to travel down pinnacle Peak or Happy Valley Road and turn at 55th Ave. head towards the half mile, which is Alameda. If you are on pinnacle Peak Road then you would want to go a half mile north, and if you're coming from Happy Valley Road you would turn on 55th Ave as well but take a half a mile south to Alameda Rd. Tell me that it does not connect to the major 67th Ave. or even anything past the school. If you were to look at a map you can see it after the school Alameda makes an abrupt turn and becomes a road going north south rather than east west. The school is located on about 58th Ave. and Alameda Rd. I don't want to evaluate too much on the entire education system there however I will say that the school has wonderful feedback from the parents and the students as though are happy with their teachers especially the teachers are the specials are fine arts, such as the music, art, media, etc. they seemed you have top not security with a locked fence to prevent children and others from coming or going without signing in or out. At first I found the sudden obtrusive but later have come to appreciate it because it's a great sense of security to know that my children couldn't just walk off if they're traveling in line to one another class special or for lunch. My children are small and Preschool so that's likely why am really happy about that. But it also creates a sense of accountability for all of the visitors and volunteers. There is a parking lot located directly in front of the school with assigned parking for visitors, carpool, staff, etc. The school hours are call a bit different among the district and I just got lucky enough to have my kids go to the one that starts but earlier I don't entire district! Woo hoo!! Not a morninghave different hours for the start time and release time, that I'm still getting adjusted to since I'm not a huge morning person. There was also great feedback from parents of students that have attended in the past or currently attending.

Website: http://coppercreek.dvusd.org I have two children with special needs issues. I came into the school with documentation for both from developmental preschools nearby that had either worked with them and had them tested by state representation or they had previously qualified for the Deer Valley School District's developmental delay preschool. This had no effect on them entering Kindergarden. And what I mean by this is that the school didn't do anything with the documentation, they certainly didn't implement any protocols or testing from the get go. I wish they had. They had to do their own assessment that took at times FOREVER to do. But policy is policy. I'd rather a more proactive approach. (Per AZ state law you can expedite this process, I did not, I wish I had for both children.) That being said, although the few frustrations I had with that, which were purely procedural, my time at the school was outstanding. The staff and teachers are amazing! (Mary, the front office secretary is on the ball! I hope she is still there with them!) Especially for the special needs department. I heard good things going in and I was not disappointed. I was with the school for 7 years. Some teachers are fantastic, (many of them have been at the school for years!) others were so so, but I'm generalizing over 7 years. The school switched Principals the end of 2013. I was not fond of the replacement Principal, however she was only there for the last end of the school year. Replacement was remedied with Mrs. McNeill in 2014-15 school year. She's fantastic. I have only good things to say about her leadership. In all, every public school is going to be reactionary instead of proactive. If you have a child with some behavior issues, I highly recommend this school because the staff here are in my opinion, fantastic. I felt respected as a member of the IEP team, they listened to my concerns and we all worked to help my children be the most successful. And THEY did go far, and I'm absolutely certain it was because of everyone's hard work. This location is land locked. So the school boundaries make the attendance in the class rooms reasonably sized. I lived out of the school zone and attended under a variance the full 7 years my children attended there. Never had a problem with getting the variance. I can't see that anyone else would if they applied for one. (It's pretty easy, the spring before the school year you are having your child attend, contact the office and they will help get you the paperwork.) The down side of this is that your child will not ride the bus. We left the school this school year 2016-17 because we moved to another location still in the same district but closer to Las Brisas, which from what I've been told is very much like Copper Creek. I'm sure at some point I'll be reviewing that one too. Some teachers from Copper Creek moved to Las Brisas, but that's not why we moved. After 7 years picking kids up, we decided to have them go to the new school they were zoned for and have them ride the bus. So far they are doing well at the new school. But I miss the relationships I had at Copper Creek. Around the corner from Copper Creek Elementary, is Hillcrest Middle School. Students who attend the Elementary school K-6 then attend Hillcrest. And then attend Mountain Ridge High School after that. All the schools are within the same block of each other. But they have the release times staggered so there usually isn't too much overlap. Its a pretty sweet setup if you ask me. Middle school aged kids, can literally walk down the street and pick up their Elementary aged siblings. Wish I lived closer, would have loved to have taken advantage of that. In all, my experience there was a VERY positive one. Will miss Copper Creek dearly!

If your child has disabilities they WILL NOT get the support and assistance justifiably needed for…read moretheir educational needs. I would NEVER recommend a parent taking their child or children to Kyrene Middle School if they have disabilities. I've been fighting them since 6th grade to do an Evaluation on my child who has been medically diagnosed with Autisim and other disabilities through a psychologist and other professionals who can diagnose disabilities. Barely able to finally get them to evaluate my child during this year as a 7th grader. However as per IDEA act of 2004 the school and district did not comply with the laws and complete the Evaluation in the appropriate time frame. I had to file a complaint with the Az Education School Board. My child has been through so much this year and we've had to attend so many meetings both for their 504 Plan and for trying to attain an IEP. Last but not least An Individual Education Evaluation was done on my child by an outside party not associated with the Kyrene School district and paid for by the district. Hoping this Evaluation would help to attain my child an IEP. My child has once again been denied. We've had 3 instances where we've been told by staff at KMS that my child may have medical diagnoses of disabilities, but educationally it is not prevalent. Yet my child struggles yearly and without her parents being on top of them their grades would be F or Ds. 3 meetings this year we have been told my child is not eligible for an IEP and only Eligible for an 504 Plan because the needs of my child are better met through the 504. I wish this were true, but staff are not held accountable and plenty of staff I feel are just there for a pay check and do not want to put the extra effort in to help students with special needs. Children with special needs seem to consistently fall through the cracks, especially if their higher functioning. DO NOT TAKE YOUR CHILD TO KYRENE IF THEY HAVE DISABILITIES. THE STRUGGLE IS REAL AS HAS BEEN WITH OUR CASE.
