I hired Morgan as the DJ for my school's prom. He showed up early to set up and was already comfortable with the location we had chosen. Morgan is awesome :) He was completely amazing to work with. Initially, I hadn't even planned on having a DJ at our wedding (I'm pretty picky about music, so was considering just using an iPod and speakers), but as soon as I spoke to Morgan I knew I had to hire him. I was able to give him an extensive list of requested songs, which we had as a mutual GoogleDoc to make things easy for both of us. Morgan isn't just your typical top 40 DJ, but instead, really listens to what you want, reads the crowd, and customizes his music to make your event perfect. He does beat matching, and did entire practice playlists in advance to make sure everything flowed smoothly. He had three sets of speakers, so he was able to have music set up for our cocktail hour outside as well as for inside for the reception (and could have set the third set up for our ceremony if we had needed them!). He had some great background music going for cocktail hour and during dinner, and was a great MC to keep things going and on-track. I warned him in advance that my wedding wouldn't be much of a dancing crowd, but he was able to read the crowd and get lots of people up and dancing for awhile after our first dance, and then had just a great vibe going for us to hang out for the rest of the night. We found Morgan on Yelp over a year ago and asked him to DJ our wedding on 4/23/11. He is really friendly and professional, and we immediately liked him- we didn't even look at other DJs after we met with him. He is really organized (which I like, being of type-A personality) and responsive, and he made the process very painless for us. We gave him a general list of songs we liked for the cocktail as well as reception hours, but he totally exceeded our expectations with respect to the music selection, especially because there were Japanese music mixed into our list per my request. He not only managed to play all of the music that we both wanted, he made it sound completely natural going back and forth between the VERY different kinds of music. When it came time to pick a DJ for our wedding, we knew it was going to be a (relatively) difficult task... My now husband has spent a lot of his life as a working musician and has also worked as a studio sound engineer. He standards are high to say the least. We interviewed at least six people to DJ for us, and knew that we would not have a band, so we wanted to get it right. Morgan was professional but not uptight (no dictating what would be played), and he has amazing sound equipment with back-up plans for everything; in the end, Morgan was clearly the person for us to work with. He was organized, professional, and good-natured... just what we needed and wanted. We had a pretty clear vision that live music would be a large part of our wedding day: family-recorded songs during cocktail hour, mostly jazz during dinner and soul/funk for the dancing. I am the bride who wanted to dance all night- and I DID. So did everybody else!!! Including my husband who claimed he would only be out there for a couple of songs- WRONG- he danced the night away too. The floor was packed the whole night, and spilling over in between the tables; the photos show it all- everyone was joyous and laughing the whole time. And this was a crowd who was largely in their 40's-50's. There were a few musical surprises during dinner that he likely didn't know about until day of, but he rolled with the improvs perfectly. From first meeting Morgan it didn't take us long to decide to hire him as our wedding DJ. He is a likable, easy-going guy, but at the same time very professional. It was clear that he knew what he was doing and he put us at ease through the whole planning process.
