When I first noticed the shop early last year, I promptly looked it up and recognized some of the artists that I'd already been following on social media. Sarah Cortese is the business owner and she has created a great space that feels inclusive, safe, and creative. She's clearly dedicated to the community they serve. I recommend checking out the work of all the Black Dahlia Tattoo artists to discover who works in the style that interests you. I've just completed my 2nd tattoo with Victoria Mesi and am already plotting my next piece. Each visit to the shop has felt like visiting friends, it's incredibly comfortable. I appreciate that there's sinks throughout the shop to maintain best hygiene practices. The team is diligent with sanitary measures like wrapping the table. Details matter. You're in great hands here. There's some powerhouse artists doing exquisite work. Good people doing good art.

He's extremely friendly and seriously cares about his work and his clients. He always does the most to make sure you're comfortable while getting your tattoo. His designs and work always looks absolutely amazing and hold up extremely well. The 2 times I've been there the other artists who've been in the shop at the time were always friendly as well. I was so in love with the tattoo that I decided to make an appointment with him at the studio during my next visit to Atlantic City (the studio is in Deptford and I drove an hour to the studio because that's just how awesome David is). Upon entering the studio I was blown away by just how bright, inviting and massive the studio was! They do tattooing, piercing and also have a large retail section that sells awesome items (& they were having a Black Friday sale). I worked with David via email on the design (& also signed all my paperwork and submitted deposit electronically) which was super convenient and when I arrived at my scheduled time David was ready for me (which is also awesome because I've had appointments with other artists at other studios and they were never on time). David was awesome as usual and allowed breaks whenever I needed them and also finished within the number of hours discussed. I LOVED LOVED LOVED my new piece of art and my friend who was with me also love it (& the overall vibe of the studio that she is thinking of scheduling an appointment as well), Lastly, the artwork throughout the studio is sooooo dope and you can just tell that these people CARE and are GREAT PEOPLE because the energy is that real and flowing from everywhere. I have enjoyed every single time I've visited. I have felt so comfortable. As an LGBTQ+ person I've…read morenever felt any negative vibes. The staff is super friendly, and the shop takes their service very seriously. I show up at my allotted time (maybe 10 mins early cause there's always paperwork). I get all signed in. The person running the desk is usually pretty busy. They seem to get a lot of calls and bookings when the shop is full of artists and folks. When it's my turn I get escorted back to the artist or they come and get me in the cute little waiting area. There's clearly a lot of time taken to keep the shop clean here. I've seen so many single use sanitary needles and paper towels among other things. Everything gets wiped down before I get going. The artists do a good job of making sure you are ready and super happy with the sizing and placing. One of my tattoos I actually asked to be moved three or four times and I felt like a butt but the artist was super chill about it. I am not the person to send back a restaurant dish if it's wrong and it took some practice to tell artists to resize or relocate an outline. During the tattooing process I get asked a good number of times if I'm comfortable or if I need to stand up and shake it out. They do have water and snacks if you forget, but you should always eat! I will always return to this shop. It's a third-place for me for sure. I always feel like family.

I came in here a little while back to have the piercer remove a captive hoop from my nose (nostril)…read moreand to put in a temporary stud. I'll keep it succinct- The guy who was supposed to do the work was clearly high on something. He was stumbling, had slurred and disjointed speech, etc. I should have walked out right then, but against my better judgement and due to a time crunch, I stayed hoping he'd be able to get the job done. Needless to say, it was pretty unpleasant. He did a pretty good number on my nose, more blood and discomfort than there ever should have been (aka, none. The piercing is over a year old and was not bleeding prior to this). To boot, while he was trying (and failing) to get the temporary stud in, the guy drooled on my shoulder. Yes, you read that right- Drooled on me. At the end of this experience, the hoop was removed and the temporary stud was put in backwards at my request because it was pretty apparent that the guy was not going to be able to get it in from the inside. Figured I'd cut my losses. I let the owner know and he told me that the guy was coming from getting a tooth pulled, and might have still been impacted by anesthesia. Extending the benefit of the doubt... maybe that was the case. But regardless, a tattoo artist or piercer should not be working on clients when impaired to the extent that they can't maintain their balance and they're drooling on clients. On a positive note, I can say that the owner was very pleasant to speak with and was very receptive to the feedback I gave after I left; he seemed genuinely concerned and said he'd go check on the guy. That said, there are far better places to get work done.
