    Figs for desert
    Alice W.

This place is a GEM! Really good affordable vegetarian food and very friendly staff. Looks like a humble but popular place where the locals eat. I'd come here every day. No English menu and staff don't speak English. I tried to use google translate with the menu (which took a while) and still couldn't decide what to get, so I looked at my neighbors table. My neighbor was so nice they couldn't speak English but they pointed out the dishes they ordered and offered me to try their food! Waiter saw this and brought me a big plate full of samples so I could try them all! I ended up getting the same dish my neighbor got, a package with original soup, a big plate of fruits, rice and a variety of vegetables, and figs for desert, all for under $100 + tip! 5 stars for service, 5 stars for food, 5 stars for neighbour eating next table! :)

A good section of fresh baked goods.

Yug is an institution in the Mexico City veggie scene. No, it is not the newest. It is not the fanciest. But it was there decades ago when finding vegetarian or vegan food was challenging in Mexico City. It continues to offer decent vegetarian options at nearly unbeatable prices. There is a lot of variety. The staff has been around and is helpful. If you are looking to show off, this is not for you. But if you want to experience some local heritage, then welcome....

We started with samosas and then had a shrimp dish, mussels, and a chicken dish. The shrimp was my favorite. A unique flavor. The chicken was perfectly cooked and the accompying sauce was rich and flavorful. Ambiance was nice but the music was a bit too loud at times. Overall an excellent restaurant. Glad we were able to come here during our visit of CDMX.

The restaurant supposedly closes at 6 PM. We arrived, and I immediately felt very rushed to order. All the wines on the menu are priced by the bottle and by the glass I tried to order a glass of wine and I was told that they didn't have that bottle open so I could not get it. This is a Michelin star restaurant....... I was brought two other options that they had open to choose from and never provide provided prices.. I chose one of the two but did not like it. When the table was ready to order a bottle of wine, I wanted the original bottle that I had chosen but unfortunately, was brought the wrong bottle. Again something that shouldn't happen at a Michelin star restaurant. The food was OK, people rave about the samosas, but they tasted very overcooked to me. This was the third Michelin star restaurant I visited in Mexico City and by far the least impressive. The flavors of the food did have a lot of depth, but by no means were they exceptional in any way. I was not able to take pictures of the food because it was so dark in the restaurant where we were seated and I did not want to use the flash on my camera. Will not return.

The food is alright, but massively overpriced and lacking flavour depth. We stopped in for dinner and were greeted by a very friendly, English-speaking server. I ordered the lentil soup (110 pesos) to start -- pretty tasty, but overpriced given what you get. My wife & I also shared the huitlacoche dumplings (150 pesos), which comes with 4 dumplings filled with a sort of corn-like filling and topped with a peanuty sauce -- tasty, but a rip-off for 4 pieces. For our mains, I got the protein bowl (280 pesos) and added some chickpea chorizon (25 pesos). Fairly boring but healthy bowl. Nothing really stood out. The tofu was not plentiful enough, nor prepared all that well. Satisyfing enough, but again, overpriced. My wife got the Enfrijoladas (265 pesos), a dish with pink tortillas filled with plantains, coconut cheese and almonds, all sitting in a black bean sauce. The tastes I had were pretty solid, but lacked flavour depth and needed some spices to amp it up. All in all, not worth the hype, especially if you're looking for authentic vegan Mexican. There are many other places worth prioritizing in town.
