I feel terrible leaving a bad review because I really want to support all the vegan restaurants in Mexico City, but I just can't when it comes to Don Andres, the food here was just not good at all & the overall experience not so great either. We were literally just one table in an empty restaurant on a Sunday (red flag) & the food took over 30 minutes to come out. We did not order any elaborate dishes either. Worse even was that the whole time we were waiting we kept hearing things coming in and out of the microwave (2nd red flag). We wanted to try a little bit of everythordered several menu items so we felt bad canceling at that point. I tried to remain optimistic as this restaurant was highly recommended to us...by a non-vegan (major red flag **facepalm** totally onus). The plates finally started coming out, one by one, it felt like a tapas experience. I will say their salsa assortment was really tasty they get my one star for that, however the quality of the food was just awful. The flavors were not on point - way off in fact. Additionally, they do not know how to properly prepare soy to absorb the dishes' flavors. I mean literally all of the dishes that were made with soy tasted like you were eating the soy curls out of the package - which if you've ever been silly enough to try as I have - you'd know they do not taste good at all, worse than cardboard. The tacos al pastor are my favorite at all the other restaurants and my go-to, except here they were literally inedible. In fact, they tasted rancid. My guess is they were not properly store or it made several days earlier because they were quite gone bad. I took one bite, had to spit it out, and the rest of the tacos did not get eaten. I don't want to give any gross details other than I had to run to their toilet before they were even finished bringing out the rest of the food. I never get sick in Mexico so that's saying a lot. My tip to the kitchen staff would be to soak your soy with plenty of water, rinse the soy, squeeze all the excess water, soak again & repeat the process a couple more times. read more
