Partially eaten rolls: narturo, oshinko, and veggie tempura
    Katie K.

Decent sushi at a pretty good price. The rolls fell apart a bit but not as badly as other places in Madison. The sushi rice is ok, but not great. The Udon was excessively oily and the miso hardly had any tofu or seaweed in it, which may please some people but for me was disappointing. The vegetable tempura was also quite oily. I understand that may be a result of ordering delivery, at least in part, so I don't hold that one against them too much. I can't speak to the service since I ordered through EatStreet but it came fairly quickly. I liked it enough that I'd give them another try but I won't be getting udon or tempura. Sorry my picture is a mess! I'm just proud of myself for even remembering to take a picture.

We ordered a sushi party tray for $100. This included 6 regular rolls and 6 chef's choice rolls.

We ordered the party tray for $100. The meat to rice ratio was perfect and the seafood was fresh. I have yet to dine but am sure I will have to do so. I ordered this a few hrs before the event and it was completed on time. Will be ordering from here again.

Spicy salmon roll, Hana roll + assorted sushi.

Slow service. I have a tummy ache. Expensive for not being good - unseasoned teriyaki, not fresh sushi. Sad

The food does not match the price. If the price is half down, I can review it four stars. But in this price, I can only give it two stars.

These were amazing. Also got the sesame chicken which was really good. The chicken was nice and crunchy. Also got the lamb skewer. This was okay. The flavors were all there but they need to work on this one. Has potential to be really good. Value(A) I got two appetizers and a dish for $36 including tip and tax. You can probably spend $25 and get out of there and be full. Note I had leftovers. Service (A) I want to give to them an A+ because the server was super nice and helpful. But that food came out in wrong order and lamb took a while. The food was fresh since it was hot. Note I went around 2pm on a Monday so there was only 1 other table. I could see this service taking a while when full. It's a small place and the exterior is crap. But the interior is really nice It's a good place, go off hours and you should no problems. It's worth it and the other reviews seem accurate. Give them a shot

The feeling of numbness for some reason makes the food very appetizing. It's a big portion, where you can probably bring it home for leftovers. Skewers are also an option here as a nice aside. There is a variety of alcoholic options, including wine, liquor shots, beer, and sakes. The drinks are great with the games they have in the restaurant and the ambiance.

The neighborhood is nice and Sake Sushi is located in a small plaza, however I almost missed it since it is located on the side of the plaza and was not visible from the street. Inside I found an interesting mix of decor, it seems like a traditional Asian restaurant with white linen tableclothes and also some very modern touches including neon strip lighting along the ceiling and a variety of light fixtures. Overall a bit of a mishmash that would be better if they picked one style and stayed with it. I got there in the late afternoon so the place was empty at first, I was seated and given the menu which allows you to fill out what you want. The menu is fairly similar to other AYCE sushi places I have been at. Of note is that at dinner you can order up to 15 pieces of sashimi without an extra charge. I ordered a nice selection of sashimi, some sushi, a couple of different maki rolls, the salmon skin salad and the seafood soup. Interestingly the sashimi and sushi came out first, then the maki rolls, then the soup and salad. The sashimi was very good, fresh with nice sized pieces; the nigiri sushi had a nice portion of seafood to rice. I was a bit disappointed with the seafood soup, just a bit under seasoned and too much bean sprouts. The salmon skin salad was excellent with nicely roasted smoked salmon skin mixed with a bit of eel sauce, delicious, crunchy and one of my favorites that you don't see everywhere. I also enjoyed the scallops sashimi, large fresh raw scallops with a nice delicate flavor and texture. The maki rolls were good as well, nicely sized with plenty of filling. I did really enjoy the Super Lobster Roll with shrimp tempura, cucumbers, avocado then topped with lobster salad; the lobster salad was a nice treat, although I think it was made with lagostino lobsters it was still tasty. I also liked their version of spider roll, the soft shell crab was crispy and flavorful. I enjoyed my meal at Sake Sushi, dinner was $30 for all you can eat. The sushi and sashimi were very good, of course not quite the same quality as the best sushi bars but pretty close. Service was good and there are plenty of choices, including noodle dishes, fried rice, hibachi and tempura. The decor is a bit of a miss, but nothing that will keep you from enjoying your meal. Well worth a try if you are hungry and feel like some sushi and Japanese food.

If it's in season I'd highly recommend the super white tuna, in addition the yellow tail, and salmon were our group favorites. The octopus was not chewy but tender and fresh. Miso soup was not overly salty, nor tasted like water. The shumai tasted pre-cooked with an onion flavor but who goes to a Japanese restaurant for shumai? All of the sushi rolls were balanced and much higher grade than anything you'd get at a refrigerator in a market place. What sets the food apart is they serve sushi freshly made so it's the correct temperature though you do have to wait a while for the sushi chef to make your selections if it's a busy day. Just don't come here if you are in a rush as it's not a fast food restaurant. The sukiyaki was not greasy and tasted sweet/savory just like how my grandmother makes it only they used a lean stir fry beef cuts while my grandma would choose a fattier thinly sliced beef. Not many Japanese restaurants serve sukiyaki like this in a ceramic pot so it's probably worth trying this dish alone as it was a staple in my Japanese household. The tempura was crispy and not oily, I believe they use Panko bread crumbs to make it light and crunchy. If you come in a big party you can reserve the private room surrounded in oak paneling and a sliding privacy door. You'll have to take your shoes off and sit flush with the floor on seat cushions for a Japanese experience. If you order Japanese soda, you'll be using a small plunger to push a glass marble into your bottle to open the ramune. Only thing I missed trying out was the Japanese beer and saki, but I give high ratings to this place for the Japanese food and service.

Today's lunch was served slowly, with poor timing from the kitchen, and little interest from waitstaff. I finished my entree before my husband's even came to the table. There were only 3 other diners in the restaurant. There appeared to be at least 4 servers and 4 cooks working. The waitstaff sat in the bar folding napkins and talking. I understand needing to do side work. I do not understand bringing two diners their meals 15 minutes apart. The food itself was just ok.
