There were also fried gyoza, egg rolls, cantaloupe, edamame and cakes. One of the people in our party has dietary restrictions and couldn't eat as much because of the mirin in the sushi rice. My favorite is Seafood Udon because of all the delicious tidbits of seafood in a huge bowl of tasty hot broth with tons of noodles. I even took nearly a quart home with me. Very cravable dish. The Shrimp Tempura Udon is a close second favorite. California Rolls and Beef Nagamaki are both great appetizer choices. The customer service here is absolutely terrible. I ordered through their app and Takara used Uber Eats, who delivered the wrong food. When I called Takara, the woman was rude and would not remake the food, refund us, or contact Uber Eats to help us resolve the issue. There was also a man shouting in the background that we would not be getting a refund. They then screened my calls and would not answer the phone. They clearly do not care about their customers and don't understand how their own app works. read more

I haven't eaten here yet so I'll give it two stars instead of one. I went there a few weeks ago because they had the all you can eat "conveyor belt" sushi. I was super hungry, which didn't help. Drove all the way out there only to find out that they do not have all you can eat, despite what their website says and despite what the reviews say on this page . Apparently they only do all you can eat on certain days, yet you can't find that info online, I think it was Fridays and Saturday (I can't remember and I can't find the info on their website or their Yelp claimed page). It's our first time back to Madison in 3 years and we stopped by Takara for dinner again. It seems the restaurant has changed and now includes conveyor belt sushi, which we opted not to try as my in-laws prefer their bento boxes. The food was fresh, good quality, and delicious, much much better than our previous visit. The eel in my unagi don was incredibly tender, the salmon in the bento cooked perfectly and not at all dry, and same could be said for the chicken. Even the tempura was hot out of the fryer and had good flavor of shrimp and vegetables. I didn't try the rainbow roll but the salmon belly was very good, and the scallop wasn't terrible. It had a little bit of a fishy after taste compared to others I've had. Service was timely and super friendly. No complaints and I would totally go back again if I lived closer. read more

We barely got refills on our drinks, and we didn't get served for a while. The waitress taking care of us was really nice, but it took a while when the place wasn't busy. We stopped in to try out the new AYCE sushi delivered via conveyor belt. We knew going into it to not set the bar too high and we weren't disappointed. Pro-tip: Sit close to the prep area so you get the best pick of the options coming out of the kitchen. While the variety of options weren't plentiful, what we did eat were not just fresh but also tasty. There was a mixture of dessert options, combo bites, and stand alone nigiri. Yes, the sushi rice was clumsily prepared but nothing was terrible. We absolutely were stuffed when we left and for the price, it was a fair experience. Definitely something to try once. First visit here since they rebranded during COVID. I've been to kaiten-zushi in Japan so I did have a baseline to compare to. For the price, I don't know that it's quite worth it. If you plan to eat a lot, then yes it can be. As you might expect, the quality is only so-so. The selection can be hit-or-miss and you won't know what's coming out until you get it. This is obvious but good to be aware - the farther from the prep area you sit, the more likely other tables will take the good stuff before it even gets to you. I would've liked some more variety but there was enough to keep me (and the group) satisfied. As time went on, we noticed that we were getting kind of the same couple of dishes for a while before something new came out. Most plates have 2 pieces. Dessert dishes (sesame red bean paste balls, mainly) are pretty few and far between. Probably the main reason the selection/variety isn't as good as it could be is because the restaurant wasn't full. I've been to kaiten-zushi which was pretty full and there were constantly different things coming around. I wouldn't expect them to have enough customers on a regular basis to be able to have that kind of variety though. read more

DO NOT EAT HERE if you value your money, your food, or quality customer service.  All-you-can-eat conveyor belt is WAAAAYYY overpriced for what you get out of it (a $2 meal will fill you just as easily as this extravagant $37 one) and they offer only average sushi and desserts on the belt. If you go this route, you also don't get any wasabi or ginger, only soy sauce. And warning: if you share even a single small plate from the belt with someone else (we're talking 2 pieces of sushi), the restaurant WILL KNOW, and that person too will be charged the full $37 as you're all forced to pay 18% on top for "gratuity" despite loooong waits and what amounts to mediocre service. So your bill could be doubled to tripled just like that. For another thing, you don't know what all the different itens on the plates necessarily are, yet if you take one and don't like it, you're forced to eat it or pay an additional $1 per plate for leftover food. I mean, what the actual F?!?!?  Even my menu order was 'meh' as well.  I can't help but feel ridiculously cheated by this place!  This was AT BEST worth half the price paid. Moreover, people should be allowed to choose their own tip based on the quality of service they receive, not be forced into 18-25% depending on the night. NEVER AGAIN, Takara. I am both a fan of authentic Japanese sushi/sashimi and Americanized rolls/sushi, and I see that Takara fails to be good in either of the two. I would be understating to comment that this place is terrible. I have been there once for All you can eat, 31/person, 18% service charge. The first time was ok, at least I had food on the conveyor belt; the second time we walked in around 7:10 and saw an almost empty conveyor belt, so we asked if the sushi are still being served to the conveyor belt, and the answer was yes, and we got seated. Then the chef started making sushi for like 6,7 minutes, then everyone started cleaning the kitchen and restaurant, as the conveyor belt started to get ghostly empty again. We waited patiently for half an hour but nothing changed, then I patiently asked for the check -- that's when the 18% service charge comes at me. There was literally no service at all during the whole time, and I even needed to use quite a loud voice to grab anyone's attention to bring the check after endless waiting. Food quality is 2.5/5 if you are asking for Americanized sushi rolls, 0/5 if you are looking for nigiri or authentic sushi. As of menu order, just go somewhere else -- the only advantage this place have is the conveyor belt and they screwed it up, badly. read more

Many, many details to follow, but I highly recommend you AVOID the main draw of this restaurant - the all you can eat conveyer belt sushi. The service on what I believe was their second opening weekend was very poor, and felt like they no training, and no preparation for guests even though the restaurant was at perhaps 25% capacity. However, the other food we had was very good. I will probably come back at least once to see if the service has improved and if the conveyer situation is worth trying again as I love the idea of the restaurant. Pros: good, fresh ingredients, and chefs that clearly know what they're doing. Good house sake and reasonable environment inside. Fun gimmick with the conveyer belt you won't find anywhere nearby. Cons: avoid the all-you-can-eat unless seated near the chefs. The service, drink selection, and seating options are very poor. I'm giving 2/5 stars as there is promise, and the menu items were very good, but the conveyer sushi experience was atrocious and service left a lot to be desired. Our experience: We were super excited for all you can eat sushi in the area. It also has a gimmick of coming on a sushi conveyer belt, which is a very cool idea and makes the meal fun. Upon arrival though, our group of 7 had nowhere to sit. They only have booths in the restaurant that can fit 6 if they squish a bit. We asked for a chair and made it work, but had to ask several times to get it sorted out. The conveyer belt sushi is ~30$ and if you don't finish plates they will charge you, so only get what you will eat. They had a nice mix of appetizers and rolls / sushi going around, though no sashimi. However, the problem stems from their poor control of what is being sent around. The conveyer belt goes past all of the tables eventually, but it always passes tables near the chefs first. Because of this, our fairly large group was behind all but one other table at the restaurant. We literally only got the leftover plates all other ~10 tables currently dining decided they didn't want. So while we could see there was sushi and appetizers being put out, we essentially had a table of 7 people paying 30$ getting the occasional plate with 2-3 pieces of a California roll equivalent, or tempura asparagus roll style dish. We didn't see an appetizer plate until nearly done with our meal. These were tasty, but really just "filler rolls" that are cheap to make that everyone else passed on. To add insult to injury, each table lists that you can only stay with the all-you-can-eat for something like 90-12 minutes before they will ask you to leave. Fortunately this wasn't enforced, but if it ever is, would feel like a slap in the face when after an hour in our table had barely had anything to eat. To make this clear, it wasn't a full, brimming restaurant at 6:00 on a Friday, we came around 2 on a Saturday and the restaurant had about 40 tables, only ~10 of which were filled. The restaurant had capacity for about triple the number of guests, but I can only imagine the chaos that would have ensued if they were even half-capacity. Fortunately several tables ahead of us turned over (or got full and let plates past) and we were able to try some of the sushi and other more interesting tuna or salmon rolls (often splitting them up at the table). At this point it seems like the chefs also realized almost nothing except a few very generic rolls were coming back to them, and seemed to kick it up and make more food (this took over an hour however). These rolls and sushi were better - but I would still compare them to something you might get at a grocery store - nothing fancy, rice that tasted fairly generic, and fresh but not well-prepared ingredients (they had to churn them out very quickly so this is understandable). They also seemed to get in a rut and made the same thing several times - which once the conveyer belt was no longer empty at about the 90-minute point of our meal, meant that the same rolls that everyone had eaten kept going around and around. At one point I think about 20 plates on the conveyer were the same roll, with hardly anything else actually making it to our table. Two members of our table that ordered off of the menu as well. One because they were extremely hungry and we literally weren't getting enough food in the first hour for them to eat at the all-you-can-eat sushi restaurant , the other to try a tuna grill dish that looked good. I can say that these dishes were prepared extremely well and clearly the chefs knew what they were doing. I got to try both and they were very tasty. If the waiter had been able to explain the menu better and come by to check on the table for drinks, I think this would have been a 4-5 star experience when ordering directly from the menu! So they have a lot of promise in that regard. read more

Despite multiple so-so reviews, we wanted to check out the new concept. The space is gorgeous and large. Almost all booth seating so keep that in mind if that's not your thing. Open kitchen into the sushi chefs was a nice touch too. The conveyor belt is clean and plentiful. Lots of different options and things move quick enough that you can catch something you might have missed the first time. I'd recommend coming when it's a bit busier, since during slow times the choices don't turn over as often. Each plate has 1-3 small bites on it. Loved this approach as it allowed us to sample many different rolls. They also have sashimi, seaweed salad, and edamame. Price is reasonable for the quantity. And all the rules are similar to other all you can eat sushi restaurants. read more

OK it's the day after Christmas you've had your holiday dinner, step away from the traditional American food and move into the Japanese genre, Sushi. While visiting Oregon Wisconsin we took a drive over to the Whitney location of the Takata restaurant. Situated in a strip mall, there's plenty of convenient free parking. When you open the door, you will immediately appreciate the dark wood ambiance with a large golden lit-up fish and a traditional bar that appeared to be well-stocked with top shelf spirits. I didn't have a cocktail but I did take advantage of the yelp offer... Checking-in on yelp you get a free glass of wine or beer. Good deal! For lunch I tried four different types of rolls, California roll, salmon roll, tuna roll and a shrimp and avocado roll. All were fresh, meaty and well prepared. They were plated nicely I found the presentation to be attractive - you can see my pictures. The roles were accompanied with a fresh iceberg salad, the ginger purée salad dressing was delicious. We were well taken care of, our server was attentive and double checked the items on the order and followed up several times to make sure we were getting everything we needed. My wife and I visited Takara today. We arrived around 6:20 and were sitted quickly. My wife ordered from the menu and I ordered the conveyer style buffet. The conveyer belt was empty the majority of the time. The rolls that were left were california type rolls. The waiter never offered any refill on my soda or green tea(They never stopped by after my wifes food was delivered). Our meal came to $54.00 for two, which would have been fine if the food and/or service were good. My wife said her sushi was fine, but nothing great. Not sure if they normally bring checks to the table or you just walk up and pay. After waiting a while we just decided to get up and pay as the conveyer was empty and there was no benefit in waiting for food. We were both very dissappointed. read more

Had a Grubhub deal so went all out with the beef negimaki bento box for $25. Holy moly all the food!! Started with the salad. On to 4 huge pieces of sushi. (Had a choice of sushimi or Cali roll instead). Figured they'd be the cheap ones but were tuna, good fish etc. Came with shrimp tempura-expected 1 but 3! (How do they get stretched out?!) Plus a broccoli, mushroom, onion ring and sweet potato! Came with shumai -4! The beef (6) also came with onions, broccoli, baby corn and carrots and lots of rice. Ate a bit but saved most for lunch tomorrow. So good and great value!
