Agreed to have someone come out to out home and view a fence project. Company cancelled the appointment saying they couldn't get out to my place that day after all. No problem, I get that stuff happens and that schedules change. The appointment gets rescheduled to Friday afternoon, and they called to cancel the same day as the appointment saying they forgot they had another project. At this point I'd say the customer service is really poor, and scheduling is unreliable. Definitely moving on to another company. read more

Phil from Zacarias Landscaping is very knowledgeable about sprinkler systems and fences.  I had a different fence guy/gardener who had just added a valve to my sprinkler system to cover more areas. Right after he was done, however, the sprinkler system stopped working!  The timer said that the sprinklers were being turned on but there was no water coming. The person who had done that work didn't know what to do and suggested that I replace the sprinkler timer for a more expensive model.  His suggestion didn't convince me, so I looked at Nextdoor.com and Yelp, and I found Phil. It only took him 10-15 minutes to find the problem: the previous guy had left a wire disconnected.  Phil's quick diagnosis for my sprinkler system troubles saved me a lot of hassles. Phil came out two hours later and gave a estimate well below that received from a major fence builder. He provided a detailed description of what was included. I hired him that day, and one week later he started. Two days later, the fence was completed. The quality of work was exceptional. He communicated every day and was responsive to any inquiries. He did not ask for any payment until the job was done. Neither he nor I even felt the need to sign a formal contract. I guess we both just felt a handshake was enough. How refreshing!!! I liked working with an independent contractor who was on site throughout the job, not a salesman. I checked CSLB to confirm he is licensed, bonded, and insured. Part of my fence blew over during the recent storms, and I needed it fixed quickly so my dogs wouldn't get out of the yard. Phil was amazing to work with! I contacted him via yelp Saturday morning and he was able to come out Saturday afternoon to look at our pressure issue. He was very nice, knowledgeable and fixed our sprinkler issue. He tested our entire system and made adjustments to the sprinklers. Phil and his assistant (I wish I remembered his name!) were awesome! They fixed a portion of my broken fence as well as replaced the gate. During the consultation, we asked if any other sections needed to be updated, and Phil was honest in saying what did or didn't and how long it may last. Someone crashed through our fence avoiding a deer. We had trouble finding someone willing to give us a quote, but Zacarias contacted us the same day as requesting a quote on Yelp. He also drove by the property and gave us a quote that day. We had to wait for the driver's insurance company to pay, which took over a month, so my only negative in this transaction was that Zacarias increased the amount by $100. His initial quote did not have an "effective until" date, so be sure to ask for that.
