I found this little gem driving on Harbor Boulevard in Costa Mesa. It is hidden in the corner of…read morethe parking lot and you may miss it if you blink. I was greeted with a smile and seated at a very nice table covered with a table cloth and minimal centerpiece. Cloth napkins are also a plus. Music was at comfortable level with enjoyable "meal" music. I walked in around 2 p.m. on a Tuesday, just in time for the lunch special. The options are a 1 dish combo or 2 dish combo. I chose the 2 dish: saag aloo and chicken vindaloo, medium spiciness for both. I also ordered a lassi, sweet. After my order was taken, it wasn't very long until my meal was served. Along with my dishes came a small salad and a bowl of rice. The portions were just right for the lunch. I have to say the dishes were very delicious. The potatoes in the saag aloo were perfectly cooked (not mushy) and the spinach with the spices are well balanced. It paired well with the garlic naan ($1 more for the garlic upgrade). I would say the same with the chicken vindaloo. The chicken was very tender and again the flavors balanced well with the naan and the rice. The texture for both "sauces" were also just right as I was able to scoop both using my naan a spoon. I ended with a small dessert, gulab jamun, to balance my meal. Again, not too sweet and flavors balanced out. In all, my food customer service experience at Andaaz was amazing and I will definitely make it a point to head back there the next time I am in Costa Mesa or just head to the area because the food is exceptional.

I can see why India Gate is rated so well. We were going to grab matcha next door but the smell of…read moreIndian spices overtook us, and what do you know, it happened to be lunch hour. They had Father's Day pricing which was $21.99 but usually I think it's a few dollars less. Either way, we'd come back. The food was hot, fresh, steaming and the area looked clean. Service was fantastic. They are consistent in refilling their dishes. Their garlic naan was so chewy and crispy, held our many dishes well. My recommendations are their butter chicken (must have), vegetable korma, paneer, and fish curry. The desserts were all good, from their mango pudding to gulab jumun and gajar ka halwa. The gajar is a blend of carrots slow cooked into water and milk, it's nice and light. Would recommend, better than some of the already tasty Indian buffets in the immediate area!

But don't let that put you off. Once you try the food you'll have a totally different opinion! We tried the all-you-can-eat lunchtime buffet as that always lets you sample a multitude of dishes at one time. Everything I tried was very tasty and seasoned appropriately for the western palate. In particular the goat curry was very tender, sometimes it tends to be a bit tough, but not here. The naan bread was also exceptional, fresh from the oven and to hot to pick up when delivered to the table. As we had the buffet it's hard to comment on the tableside service. What we saw was good though. As it's in an industrial area lunchtimes can be quite busy.
