Decent Indian eatery near SNA airport - stopped by for lunch today with friends as we had to do some "time-pass" before our Newport Beach airBNB was available. We ordered butter naan, onion kulcha and Aaloo paratha and enjoyed these breads with butter chicken, paneer palak, and egg bhurji (my favorite). The masala chai I ordered was forgettable. You can also select the level of spicy. The parking lot is very small, and there are quite a few restaurants sharing the building, so in the evenings you might have trouble finding parking. In addition to Garlic Nan, I had the Paneer, Butter Chicken, Basmati Rice and the Tandori Chicken as well. Each one was very tasty and mildly seasoned which I also loved!! Just ate there 20 minutes ago. Very rude service without a smile. Next time you go in there just look at the floors and all the equipment. It's absolutely filthy. If they kitchen is filthy do you really think they take great care of the food? It's a shame they used to be absolutely delicious. I had the masala chicken, and it was super tough, also I ordered the garlic naan bread and they don't cook it fresh like they used to or warm it for you in the tandoori oven it was very chewy and no crisp at all. We are from out of town and we love trying new Indian food places and were super excited to see this one near our hotel with such a high rating! We ordered pick up after a wet and rainy day and it smelt really good. We got medium chicken tikka masala and naan. The masala smelt amazing but man did it lack so much flavor. I had a really good experience here. The service was on point and the food was pretty damn good!! I love indian food, and there is a big difference between good Indian food and bad Indian food...it isn't the easiest food to perfect, but this place has the flavors down really well. Indian food can take heat to a new level, so if you want that, ask your server...they will spice it up for you...I'm talking beyond Vindaloo. We had a lot of dishes when we went here. The Naan was nice and fresh, the rice...always good, if you don't like rice idk what's wrong with you...but basmati is always good. Samosas: really nice mix of flavors, i know that potato and peas is more traditional, i would've liked a chicken samosa. But they were fried very nicely and a good start. Paneer...I didn't order it...I hate paneer, it shouldn't count as cheese. Just take it out of the cuisine altogether. Saag paneer...they may have the best in the world it's still going to taste like jellied tap water. I'm sorry, totally unrelated to the restaurant...paneer is the worst cheese in the food world. It makes no sense, and it doesn't help to get the heat down...it just makes you angry because u ate something too hot and now you've also eaten bland cheese!! What animal does it come from? Felt like I got hustled. Walked into MasalaCraft with every intention of ordering the pretty dishes in the photos. Asked for Chicken Korma but was ushered to this food-to-go area instead. The 3 item combo seemed sus at $11.95, but dude behind the counter was selling hard so I gave in. Plus I got the hint they didn't want to dirty their pans at 8:30 pm even though they don't close til 11. So I got the combo with 3 chicken items, one of which had chicken dried up into mummified chunks. Hard to imagine with all the butter & cream involved, but it happened. Also hard to imagine messing up a staple like naan, but it came out crispy and hard. You can see that my naan looks burnt and not like the other photos on Yelp. You can also see some people wrote positive reviews in exchange for discounts or perks. Other good reviews are by people who got dishes that look freshly prepared, not stale food on clearance. I really dislike places that try to break Yelp. Parking is so limited someone actually knocked on my car window to ask for my spot as I was waiting for the car next to me to pull out first. I am so happy that I was finally able to try Masala Craft! This is rated as the best Indian restaurant in all of Orange County, and after eating here- there is truly is no doubt as to why. I truly believe that every dish I was able to try is 1000/10 across the board. Butter Chicken- okay I'm not a fan of butter chicken at all but this was AMAZING. Firstly, normally most places skimp out on the amount of protein their is, however there was so many big pieces of chicken that were incredibly tender and juicy. The cream made the dish incredibly decadent in flavor, without making it overwhelmingly creamy. There was a perfect amount of spices added to make the sauce an immaculate balance of sweet and mild spice. Malai Kebab- this was absolutely fantastic. It's chicken in creamy marinade. The pieces of chicken are huge, and so tender and juicy. It's seasoned so well also, and the onions served with it adds so much flavor to this decadent dish. Samosas- I'm normally pretty picky about samosas but hands down this is the best samosa I've had on the west coast. The fried dough on the outside is perfectly crisp and just the right amount. They also stuff these samosas with spiced potatoes and vegetables which add so much flavor. Definitely order this. Pakoras- one of my favorite dishes!! This was so good. It was perfectly crisp on the outside and the inside vegetables were so tender and soft. This literally melts in your mouth and it's so delicious and served hot. Also fantastic with the sauces served with it like green chutney. Garlic naan- this naan was so good, it was so fluffy and the amount of garlic was perfect. The naan was so soft and was the perfect accompaniment to the butter chicken. Vegetable biryani- not pictured but this was so delicious. The spices were incredible and it makes for a good entree on its own or as a base for curries or other entrees. It's also incredibly filling. I can't believe it's taken me so long to finally try Masala Craft. This place was absolutely incredible. I enjoyed everything I had. The service and vibes of the restaurant were also great. They truly make sure you have the best dining experience. I can't wait to come back and eat here!! I walked in and the chef said only Togo orders because it was getting late.
