The cutest little childhood joy invoking goods shop that very much so reminds me of An Me based in Manhattan, but bigger, and a little more affordable. There is so many things to see here, and they include their own in-house stuff, as well as quite a bit of imported Japanese toys, stationary, etc. I loved that they carried Miffy, Mofu-sand, the suite of Sanrio characters, and much more. There was so much variety of stuff here that it made looking through everything so mood boosting. This is easily my favorite shop in the Hudson Valley, and must visit whenever we find ourselves in Beacon! Zakka Joy carries a variety of quirky and fun gifts, ranging from dinosaur socks to hand carved wooden earrings, adorable Japanese stuffed animals (Lazy Egg for the win!), Polaroid camera film and accessories, and more. You'll want to bookmark this place for holiday shopping because there's something for everyone. Seriously, I'm planning on making another trek up here before December just to shop for everyone on my list! The items are also affordable, and that's just an added bonus! For example, I am a HUGE enamel pin collector, and I've seen pins of similar size go for twice or three times the price of the ones sold at Zakka Joy, where you can get them for $8-$12 on average. I love my "Murderino" pin (named for fans of the "My Favorite Murder" podcast), and get tons of compliments on it! My boyfriend and I also bought a cool Jay and Silent Bob cartoon art print today for $10, and it's going to make an awesome conversation piece on display at home. The folks that work here couldn't be nicer, and add to the already wonderful experience of shopping here. If you're in Beacon, a trip to Zakka Joy should be at the top of your to-do list! read more

I stopped in here because I was looking for a Kaweco fountain pen and Yelp directed me here. This is a small fun little shop. Not really a place you would go to to buy serious (expensive) fountain pens or looking for a large assortment of ink. In fact Kaweco was the only brand they carried. The guys working in the store were great. Friendly, helpful and, for lack of a better term, very chill. They created everyone coming through the door. No hovering or following you around. They'd ask if you needed help and if you said no they'd leave you alone but I did need help and they both interested with me explain what they had, including a rainbow of colors. The store sold a lot of different types of tchotchkes from notebooks, to packaged food(noodles) and a ton of other uniquely oddball items that felt to me like things you'd find in a Japanese inspired store. I like this place and I liked the guys working it. One hint to them, when you sell a Kaweco remind the customer it does not come with a clip. I thought I had one at home but didn't and I went back for it the next day and they remembered me. But you will probably sell a clip with almost every pen if you mention it. This cute boutique shop has so much nice stationary to cute accessories. I love stopping by here to check out new corgi items. I found corgi mask and I was just super ecstatic for it. The store people are super friendly and nice as well. I really enjoy supporting the local shop and buying things I find is unique. Definitely would highly recommend it! read more

Dream In Plastic is a super happy fun time store full of great gift ideas for that special quirky someone in your life (or if that person is yourself...as I am). It started as an online shop but found a home in Beacon, NY in August 2009 by long-time friends Diana & Jenny. They bring their love of vinyl toys, art, funky accessories and more to the masses. I have recently rediscovered my love for Lomography and DIP has everything you need for you Holga & Diana freaks. They are big supporters of local artists and will feature local talent on the walls of the shop. Between the cameras they have for sale and all the Munny figures ready to be painted, Dream In Plastic is a terrific place that caters to the kid in all of us. read more

The store is cute and they have a fun selection but I don't ever buy anything here because it's all over-priced Chinese garbage. If you like something, take a picture of it and find it on eBay or save your money and craft it yourself. They charge $18 for one pair of socks. What a rip-off. Great store for window shopping though. read more

Dream in Plastic and Play, which are a few doors down from each other, are both super awesome and great for gifts. Dream has a bit of an upper hand for a bit more elegance and style. There's still a bunch of wittiness and classic imagery to go around, but Dream is geared more toward the sophisticated and quirky and cute. There are lots of fun paper products and cards and a whole back wall full of stuffed "animals" like a stack of pancakes. There's also a whole bunch of beauty products, like nice lotions, and pretty earrings and necklaces. If this store was near me, I'd come all the time for gifts for my girlfriends. read more

Oh boy this place is great. It's got some really unique art supplies plus a cute vegan leather handbag section = my happy place. I also recommend if you buy anything don't take a shopping bag. The store will donate the money they save giving you a bag to local animal shelters, what is better than that? Will be back for sure! read more

Have you ever wanted an ironic birthday card? This is a great place for you to get in touch with your inner child. They have a ton of cutesy toy items that would make great office décor to brighten up a dull office. They have random stuffed toys, cheerful bunny themed stationery, fountain pens, mystery toys, small pins and random miniature toys. Magnets, mugs, and unicorn themed stuff. I would LOVE to provide an in-depth review of this amazing looking shop, but unfortunately, on four separate occasions yesterday (a Saturday), the store wasn't open per the posted hours. Granted, the store brags about its "-ish" hours, but I was visiting and thought it looked cool. Was supposed to be open at "11-ish," and still wasn't open the last time we passed around 12. Later we came back (3pm) and a sign was up that said "be back soon." Great, tried again in 25 minutes and still "be back soon." *groan* I even tried calling the phone number provided on the door sign. Alas, the phone must keep those dreaded "-ish" hours, too. This tells me the owner clearly sees this store as more of a hobby than a serious business. I would have LOVED to have come in and checked out the cool stuff they seem to have, but with "-ish" hours, that is clearly impossible. read more

This place is so cute and fun, although I was stupid enough to bring my standard size stroller through here on Small Business Saturday 2013 and it was a bit of a tight squeeze (it was a d'oh moment on my part, not the shop owners). There were so many unexpected, delightfully fun items in the shop. One of the toys that I got my daughter in the shop is still one of her favorites (a stuffed cupcake). There is definitely something for everything - it's actually a perfect gift shop for someone that is hard to shop for. Really quirky and cute gift shop. I usually see the brands they carry scattered across many chain retail stores but at Dream in Plastic it's all in one place! I found a lot of cute gifts for some upcoming birthdays and got some stuff for myself. The ladies who were working in the store even helped make me a custom pin I couldn't find in their pin inventory. That's some great customer service! I'll be back! read more

This is fun little store jam-packed with lots of colorful things for you to stare at. Ok...to be more elaborate, they stock some great toys, cameras, film, scented candles, art books, stickers, and even housewares....I picked up an Easter Island head ice cube tray, how cool is that? I also like the wide assorted of vinyl toys, especially the blank Munnys, which are a steal at $10. The prices here in general are really good, as compared to some other shops which go crazy and mark up the prices on what they think are just "funky novelty gifts". Another great thing is the local art on display, there's always some cool paintings or prints hanging up for purchase. Got one of those oddball friends or family members that you need a gift for? What a fun store! They've currently got a whole section dedicated just for pusheen. Everywhere else if full of great gifts for anyone and everyone. Unlike Play Toy's and Gifts, the products in this store seem to be of higher quality and for an older (no longer a kid) crowd. I would check by frequently and their inventory changes. This place is absolutely amazing. It's small, but packed from floor to ceiling with every cute, kawaii, and strange piece of merchandise you could possibly ever imagine. All kinds of toys, housewares, accessories...you name it! They also have a huge selection of socks, and they're soooo comfortable. You seriously can't find a store like this anywhere except maybe Manhattan, and the prices here are SO much better than you could get in the city. I was so shocked at how low everything was priced. Personally, I can't wait until the next birthday (why are all my friends born in Fall??) so I can go to Dream in Plastic and buy them the best gifts ever. Personally, I'm into all the fun housewares. Why wouldn't you want unicorn corn holders or a ninja kitty serving tray? If you've been through Beacon but haven't stopped by this store, you have made a giant mistake. GO BACK! When we first walked past this place we thought "well we're not really in the market for new plastic goods" and didn't think we"d find anything there, but it looked like a bucket of fun so we went. It's a treasure trove of many things we never knew we needed/wanted. And don't you worry, it's not just plastic. Quirky T-shirts, ceramics, unique stationary, and housewares (so not bed bath & beyond-like) are just a few of the treats in this place. The girl that helped us (owner?) was great and lovely to talk to. If we"d had more time we would have spent too much. The "Wine sock monkey" we left with was the perfect gift. Loved this place, will be stopping by again when we're in the area! read more

Just a really good store to check out if you are in Beacon and have time to kill. They have awesome knick knacks and toys of all sorts.

I'm not sure how such a place can exist, but it made me feel very hopeful about the potential of humanity.

Not impressed with customer service. Paid extra for 2 day shipping and did not even get email confirmation for almost 48 hours (Ordered at 6 pm Wednesday and email came 3 pm Friday.). Called and was told "That's weird that there is no tracking number with your email. I will check and call you back." 30 minutes later, no call, so I called again, and no one answered, so I left a message. Then I left an email. At no time was I irate; I just wanted an answer about when to expect this item after paying $18 to ship a very light weight (less than a pound) item to get it fast for a special event. Since I live a 5 hour drive away I certainly expected to get it by Friday, and I did not. But they obviously don't even care enough to answer their phone or emails, so I am sure they aren't interested in refunding the unfair shipping charge.. read more
