Beacon is full of interesting shops, but this is my favorite. They have a great selection of toys and novelty items, and many have a retro feel. This is my kids favorite store in Beacon. They begged to go today, and of course walked out with the knee dough (they had it in stock!). The store is fun for both kids and adults. They have Knick knacks of all different kids. Souvenirs, pencils, lots of sensory toys, books, mugs, and so much more. They have items starting at literally a dollar, so any budget will do. In continuation of my party of six brisk walking and localized tourism in Hudson Valley region of Beacon, NY on a whim we entered PLAY Toys And Gifts. This is a specialty novelty shop full of interesting non-traditional, modern bric-à-brac objects, games and toys for all ages. There are candies and books. There are souvenirs, pencils, magnets, greeting cards, mugs, wooden propeller airplanes, and mechanical toys. There are also comical gag gifts. It does intrigue one's attention as a conversation starter. Perhaps, one does not need to feel morbidly bored with these novelty bric-à-brac objects. We saw a sleeping toy cat which seemingly appeared realistic. I did not make any purchase. These objects do not captivate my interest or attention for usage to make a purchase, but it does captivate me for a visitation experience to browse. I find this shop contents very comical, but I do support local business. Business cards are available for grabs. Patrons do not have to feel morbidly bored now with PLAY Toys And Gifts. This is the kind of place that has those nostalgic types of toys. The goofy gags, the Balsawood propeller airplanes, unique refrigerator, magnets, greeting cards, and there were some really impressive mechanical toys, although they're not really a toy, more of a conversation starter. What an awesome toy shop. It has something fun for all ages - games, jewelry, books, tricks, retro toys, and much more. I felt like a little kid again when I browsing around looking around at all of the cool stuff. You'll laugh at some of the stuff in there and it was like being in a Spencer's in parts of the store. Even though some of it are for adults only, the kids tend to get lost in browsing through other sections of the store. The items are reasonably priced and it was a neat experience checking out what they have there. The cashier was extremely friendly and the store was kept clean. Adored this shop. Fun, retro games from 1970-1990's, modern toys, funny books, witty, to silly. A blue light room with the glow in the dark posters, lava lamps, you name it. Usually I have a good time at this place, today I walked in and a girl with tattoos who was working the front just completely ignored us walking in. She was as loudly talking about inappropriate topics with two other men in the store. When we checked out she did not even make eye contact she just held out her hand to take my card. No "how are you" or thank you" not anything at all. Also, I needed to throw out a drink and I didn't realize the garbage can wasn't for food or drink. I realized just before I put my drink in and when I looked up she snarled at me rudely. It's unfortunate because I usually have a pleasant experience here. The employees were friendly and there was so much interesting stuff! Pins, a little nook under the stairs with a black light. The values are kind of like a 5 Below, between $5 and $40. Overall, place is very cute! Ambiance is great and customer service is certainly friendly. Beware, Sonny Angels are NOT real. Unsure if this was advertised elsewhere, or, if they expect customers to assume they aren't, but thought I'd put it out there for others like me who thought they may have been legit. This goes for Mitski figurines as well. Unsure if the other collectible figurines, such a the Mofusand boxes or whatnot are real, but purchase with caution and assumption they may not be. this is my favorite store. i have been to this store every school break i have had since i was a little kid. it brings me a lot of joy and happiness and everyone at the register i have encountered has been super happy, and offered me a bag for my little trinkets. until today. january 18, 2025 approximately before 4 pm. this young skinny girl with striped grey hair and round black glasses was being super rude. she gave my dad a sneer when he looked into the store. i was ready to check out and she had her own stuff all over the counter.. i waited for a good few minutes and she didnt even look me in the eye she was playing with these colorful beads. she told me my total and i got the money out and the poster she had left on the register table i didn't know why it was there so i said "the poster isn't mine" and she very rudely with an eye roll said "i know" i still said thank you after even though it was very scary and sad for me to have someone give me dirty looks and roll their eyes at me and be rude when the setting in that store has been always happy and wonderful. i think she should be fired, she does not fit in with the rest of the amazing and nice staff. this made me very sad and displeased as a very long term customer. read more

One of the best boutique toy and gift shop I have been to in a while. Play carries a wide range humorous items: toys, games, gags, trinkets, cards, books and useful- cutesy-stuff that you never thought you need it. Their selection is well curated and the prices are incredibly fair. I have lost count of how many times I have browsed elsewhere and found things of which screamed "take me home!" but I refrained from doing so because they were so overpriced. Play made this easy for me, no need to search online for a better deal and wait for it to be delivered. This is an affordable, instant gratification shopping experience. Store with many interesting and unique gadgets and gift ideas for all ages, including jewelry and tote bags. Our son has made several purchases from PLAY (life-like horse head, Minecraft block head) and goes in with his friends when they can chip in for a larger novelty to share. The store owner seems to pick and choose who he deems cool enough to talk to. Someone might get full attention, and someone next in line will be insulted in an off-handed way. Heck, I don't even exist when I'm in there so maybe that's a good thing :) I'll continue to bring our younger guests in there but I'm not likely to plunk down cash for anything more than our visitor's parting souvenir. read more

This is by far the coolest and most unique toy stores I have ever been to. First, it's in a magical little area of Beacon that I adore. Old brick buildings with an artistic flare. The collection of toys in here vary from vintage to newest of the new. I love reading all the novelty books and they have some really great magnets! DEFINITELY not kid friendly!!! Cool store but will NEVER return!!! I am always on top of my kids when in stores! Im not one of those parents that let their kids go crazy! The sales associate/cashier was very unpleasant to my children! I am upset I even purchased anything from this store. My poor daughter who is 2 1/2 wanted to touch a car they had on the sales floor and the woman took it from her and shoved it under the table! Almost brought her to tears! AND she was giving my son orders WTF!! I always get told how wonderful my son is and how well behaved so when she did this I wanted to scream! Anyway I would not recommend this store for kids! I've been in here a few times and really enjoyed it. I've brought my son with me each time (he's 13) and we've both had fun. This last trip, however, is the reason for my poor review. Last Wednesday my son, infant nephew, fiance and I went to lunch up the block and decided to stop on and look around. We had our leftovers in a bag. There was a dog in the store just kind of wandering around, not bothering anyone. My son asked, before he went to pet the dog, if the dog bites and the man behind the counter said in a very nasty tone "only if you give him a reason to". He then told is we had to leave our bag of wrapped food with him as he was eating his lunch in addition to the diaper bag. It was so rude and needless. If you can't handle being courteous to the children who walk into the toy store you work in, you should find a new line of work. And eating at the register? While telling us we can't have our wrapped food (that was in a bag)? Or the diaper bag? No way. I would advise picking a day other than Wednesday to visit.....at least if you have children with you. read more
