This place is so retro & cute. The staff were so sweet. I've been craving a simple burger and this really hit the spot. We also got a strawberry milkshake and that was also delicious.

Chicken burger and fries, with milkshake = about $17. Plus tax & tip.

Oh noooo!! We forgot to take pictures before eating!! We ordered a Chicken burger and fries with one of their huuuuge (and very tasty) milkshakes, and the Greek wrap with butternut squash soup and a side of potato pancakes (this last add on was $3.00). Each meal was about $17.00. I have to admit to avoiding this place beforehand; I won't avoid it any more! The decor is fabulous - all '50s. Everyone gets a booth! All we needed was a jukebox in each one. However, they compensated with something like a Wurlitzer in the corner (modern: it seems to be touch screen) back to the future?! Anyway, they're open 24/7, and serve breakfast any time. The food was good but not fabulous, and the waitress didn't know the soup du jour, or the cost of the side of potato pancakes, but was willing to find out for us. The fries were tasty, but there was a hair in them! Compensation was a $5.00 coupon for our next visit.

Today's visit was better than the last. Our server was excellent, dealing with our large group without breaking a sweat, and with a smile. Coffees were topped up without having to ask. The pancakes were fluffier than I expected they would be if they were made from a mix.

    Chocolate mint milkshake!

I came here to pick up a milkshake, since I was craving one specifically from Zak's (don't judge)! and was quite impressed with how large and decorated the space was, compared to the downtown location. The staff were lovely and were joking with each other and seemed to genuinely enjoy working there. I got a chocolate mint milkshake and it was as delicious as I remember. :)

Hey, you! Out there on the road, looking for breakfast. Or just leaving your hotel, unable to face another plastic fork. Or you are new in town, and want someone to cook for you. Put this address in your GPS, and boogie. This restaurant chain has studied breakfast, and the results are very satisfying. Yes, my pictures of my oatmeal across Canada all look the same (according to my Facebook friends) but seriously...steamed milk? And just enough fresh strawberries. Blueberry pancakes large enough to share, and eggs just right. We knew we were in the right place when we saw a table full of men wearing reflective vests, and smelled the coffee, but it just kept getting better. When we walked in "Barracuda" was playing on the sound system, and it set the tone for the whole meal. And the restrooms are marked with signs of Wonder Woman and Superman. And it's located in a strip mall with a beer store AND a liquor store AND an unrefined olive tasting store. This experience makes it hard to leave Canada again. We did pick up a few bottles of Jackson Triggs at the liquor store, and back on the road again. We know where we will stop for breakfast next time we are in Ottawa. And you should, too.

Ah my annual visit to Ottawa always draws me to Zak's Diner at least once in December. Love their food I had pancakes bacon eggs yummy and what a portion they give. My husband had the foot long hotdog, it is literally 12" wow so good with onion rings, cheese, bacon yummy again it's his favourite. So if you're in the neighbourhood stop by you won't be disappointed

I've had cupcakes at this Cupcake Lounge in Westboro and also at the one in the Byward Market…read more(which was the original location (opened in 2011), the Westboro one is the second location - it opened in 2013) and I have to say that I like the cupcakes at the one in the Byward Market better. The cake seems to be softer and fluffier there. My main complaint about both locations (although some might find this a positive instead of a negative) is that there is way too much icing on the cupcakes, lol. The icing is like half of the cupcake! And it's so rich and buttery! Again, many people may like this, me not so much. I don't enjoy cakes that are too sweet nor frosting that is too buttery. So take this review for what it is, haha! I do find the more "creative" flavours (e.g. coconut key lime pie, apple dulce de leche, lemon raspberry, etc.) to be tastier than the more generic flavours (chocolate, vanilla, birthday cake, etc.). Admittedly, the last time I actually bought cupcakes from The Cupcake Lounge was way back when they first opened. Ever since then, I've just had their cupcakes when colleagues bring them into work or family/friends bring them to parties or other events. They are very pretty and photogenic :) just too sweet and too rich for my taste buds :( This location is in the heart of Westboro. Street parking only.
