Great owner-operated small venue, parking, and outdoor patio in summer. Delicious food. Awesome intimate music events.

I have waited to try this gem out for a long time and we finally made it out to Richmond on Sunday…read more The Richmond Village Bakeshop is only open Thursday to Sunday as they use the other days to buy ingredients and prep for the most delightful experience you're going to have. First off, the cafe / bakery is located in the quaint and cosy town of Richmond in Ottawa inside a historic hospital that has been converted to the bakeshop and owners home. As you enter, you're greeted by the most kind staff who make you feel welcome right away (bonus is that they are very kid friendly as well) We ordered the brunch special which was a raisin French toast, home fried, bacon and sausage along with tea and a butter tart. While the food here shares names with things you think you may see elsewhere, there is no comparison. It's next level. They baked the bread for the French toast in house and everything is meticulously prepared with real attention to detail. The atmosphere is casual and relaxed while the food quality is that of a fancy restaurant. On the way out, the owner gave out son a baked apple fritter that was so delicious. I give this place 5 solid stars for service, food and atmosphere! My only regret is not taking more photos - I will try to get some on my next visit which I assure you, there will be plenty of. Side note: we got a loaf of cheese bread on the way out and it was soooooooo good!

Even though it's a golf course, staff are not snooty nor pretentious. Actually, the opposite. Relaxed. Very. Not polished nor uptight. Food took awhile on a Tues night. Ordered were... Brussel Sprouts to start. Would pass on these, next time. Too small, too charred. Salmon. Decent. Seafood linguine, decent. Had a sweetness to it, perhaps in the sauce, borrowed from the green curry dish. I had breakfast leftovers. Sidenote... I'd never been here before but the staff and guests had us steer away from the 2 Thai bowl dishes. I'd come back. The wine was good, great atmosphere.. unless trying to find the washroom. The restaurant is a maze!!! Prices were up there but, expected given the location.

The food was acceptable, although I found my vegan bowl rather over-seasoned, but not so much that I couldn't eat it. The real problem was our server; he was loud while serving tables, but I really objected to how he frequently referred to my sister-in-law and me as "dear", but never treated my husband so disrespectfully. When I quietly mentioned to him that not all senior women enjoyed being called dear I was essentially shouted down. I was sitting down at the time, and I didn't appreciate him looming over me, saying loudly that he "didn't know my name" and blustered a non-apology that he was "sorry I was offended" as he turned his back and walked away to another table. Never once did he try to make eye-contact with me, so I assume he really didn't care at all if he was behaving rudely and insulting older, female guests. The Ale House charges much more than a greasy spoon would for their menu items. The behaviour we received from that server doesn't match the ambiance of the restaurant and I definitely won't be returning.
