I want to be clear that nothing I am about to write is meant to be critical in anyway. Some places are meant to be solid and above average, like Zakura, while other places are meant to be over the top amazing. Our gyoza were absolutely fine. Have had better, have had worse. The karage was tossed in a sauce that just made it taste something like orange chicken. Again not upset about it, it tasted good, finished the plate. The sushi rolls were made nicely and very large. The flavors inside were a little fishy but also not much happening in flavor at the same time. My wife thought they were delicious. We chanced coming here despite the mantra we said to each other that we didn't go to Ireland for sushi. It was the best decision. The setting parallels that of authentic Japanese restaurants- small but maintains privacy. The food was great. The sashimi was fresh and the katsu was delicious. I highly recommend. read more

Our party ordered to-go from this place one night and the one girl working there was so friendly and accommodating, and the food was really great. However, our group decided to return to dine in-house and the service was awful. Three women were working and although the food was delicious, the service was not great. They had an attitude, acted like they didn't want to be there or respond to us, and it was not an enjoyable experience. We got in and ordered our food and for every interaction we had, their tone and attitude was quite rude. It's disappointing because that one day we came in for takeout, the girl working was very kind (even offered us all water), yet when we came in on another day for dine-in, the others were not friendly at all. I'm in Dublin and I've had all of the local food and fair and longed for something like sushi, so I found this place while walking around. Walked in at 6:30pm on a Tuesday. It's very small inside but adorable. We were seated right away and given water . I ordered the sashimi special and my friended ordered one of the sushi specials. When I say it was so fresh. I mean it was excellent! I'm not the biggest fan is salmon, but this had the cleanest brightest flavor or the sea with salmon flavor as soft as I've ever tasted. The alcohol menu was pretty small not a lot of choices but I didn't mind I was going to a pub after anyway. This place is worth a stop for sure if you love sushi ! read more

A brand new Sushi restaurant in Dublin, true, we are not exactly stuck for them any more but I am firmly of the opinion that you can never really have enough sushi. This place feels new, the staff feel new and nervous and the interior is reminiscent of an ikea catalogue... one of those nicely laid out pine themed pages where everything is clean lines and minimalist. I like it. We ordered a couple of different combos, the food was very fresh and tasty (nothing stand-out, just nice), washed down not with the plum wine I was keen to try but with a half decent Chillian sav blanc purchased from Whelans off licence across the road ( 4 euro corkage)... I think they were not yet allowed to sell alcohol, you see it in new restaurants a lot. 40 euro all in which wasn't bad, we'll be back in a couple of months when the dust has settled. read more

Really lovely spot. This is like a little Japanese oasis in the middle of that great run of eateries and drinkeries that is Georges / Angier / Camden. It's all decked out in bamboo and Japanese fabrics and dolls, and with nice soothing music in the background, and a great value and delicous menu (with BYO booze), it's no wonder it's so popular. As it was lunchtime, I went for the vegetarian bento box. For 9 eurits, it was unbelievable value. There was a mountain of fried rice, the nicest miso soup I've ever had, a stack of maple syrup-ed sweet potatoes, two pieces of avocado sushi, and some lightly stir-fried green veggies. It was so big, I actually couldn't finish it. I also tried the vege dumplings which were really spot on. As I said, lovely spot, I'll defo be back! read more

I got take-away from Zakura three times while I was in Dublin, and each time the food and service were excellent! The people who work there are friendly, polite, and helpful. The salmon sashimi was like butter, it was so tender! The salmon teryaki donburi was perfectly cooked and a very sizable portion. The only thing I wouldn't order again was the unagi nigiri, as the eel was a little chewy. While there is no front step to enter, there is a very narrow turn to get by the tables, so this might not be easily WHEELCHAIR-ACCESSIBLE. I also didn't look at any bathroom they might have. Overall, I enjoyed the experience of getting take-away from Zakura and will do so again next time I'm in town! read more

I really was quite surprised by Zakura in the end. From the outside it doesn't look like it would be up to much. But it turned out to be a wonderful experience all together. I had looked online at the menu before I went. I have a problem with doing that. I knew what I wanted even before i sat down haha. The prices were significantly lower than other sushis i have been to in Dublin, so I kinda assumed that the sushi quality would be low. I was defo wrong :) I got 8 avo rolls and 4 veg fudomaki. The avocado was so fresh and ripe. Just how it should be and the vegetable fudomaki was a lovely mix of avo, asparagus, peppers, lettuce...lots of yummy goodness. My girls got a mix of ebi rolls, tofu steak, king prawn and avo, fried tofu sushi and edamame. Ther wasn't a piece left. We all loved it as much as each other. I got a diet coke also and my meal came to €13.50 an absoooo steal!!! It's not my fav sushi place around. There are defo places I'd prefer which are better quality and more upscale than Zakura. All these places are much more expensive tho. Zakura is a perfect place for a casual after work bite with friends. Cheap and cheerful with delicious food. I have been back to Zakura plenty of times since my first review and every visit the food has been great. For sides we've had the gyoza (chicken), the ebi tempura (prawn) and yasai tempura (vegetable) and they have all been excellent. The tempura batter is amazing here, light and in no way greasy. For mains I've had the Chicken Katsu Curry, which is really good here (it gives Wagas Katsu a run for their money). They also have this on their lunch menu for 7.99 EUR which is excellent value. I think it's around 12.50 EUR on their evening menu. I've also had the beef mince bibimbap and I've tasted their Teppan Chicken Teriyaki. Again these were delicious. It's also a BYOB restaurant and if you are drinking white wine, they will provide a cooler for you - not all BYOB restaurants provide this I have found. The only fault I could pick would be with their staff, while they are very nice and helpful, they can tend to be run off their feet when it gets busy and it can be difficult to get their attention at times, especially when you want to get the bill and leave. But that's a minor thing that I hope they will remedy, I think the food makes up for this. One final thing, we discovered very recently that Zakura deliver - oh dear, I fear we will be ordering takeout for delivery from Zakura a lot. We got the Chicken Katsu Curry delivered last night and it was exactly how I remember it from dining in. read more

Love this small restaurant on Wexford Street, with working nearby I love popping here for lunch from their menu to the munch bento specials, this place is great value and the food is always great; tasty and flavoursome. Staff are very quick, from seating us, taking order to the food arriving... It's also so quick and efficient, great when you're trying to eat in a restaurant within the 1 hour lunch timeframe. It doesn't exactly sing to you from the outside but fear not, pop on into this place and you'll not regret it. Good things: Tasty food, great portion size and not heavy on your pocket lunch deals - great value for money BYOB - always a winner Not so good thing: They don't serve lunch deal bento box on the weekends; i think they should mention it in the menu and on the website I also found it odd that the server asked if we would like to add tip (when we were paying by card). This is the first time in Dublin I have encountered the question about tip and umm... it was awkward as the service was just ok - nothing extraordinary. Sushi! I absolutely love Sushi and Sakura does not disappoint! I am a relative regular there for lunch, and I always go for the Bento Box, just because I'm a "I'll try a little bit of everything" kind of guy. But I'm also known to get a side of Sushi to go, and enjoy it during the afternoon in the office. Their fish is fresh...I mean, twice now I've seen a guy walk into the restaurant holding a fish (yes, that fresh. And I'm usually there at 12 when they open, so I guess it was a late delivery). I plan on going there for dinner and eventually trying one of their specialty dishes, but in the meantime, keep that Bento coming! read more

I came here twice while in Dublin so it had to be good. The interior is cozy and feels very Japanese with light wood everything. The food itself is cheap and yummy and the servers are friendly and attentive. The sushi isn't life changing - I live in SF so it's hard to compare but it's well priced and large portions. I have been back to this place a couple times because of the convenient location, but having had sushi from a few places in Dublin now, I can comfortably say that there is better sushi in the city (and for the same/similar price). The first time, I ordered the tuna sashimi (€6.50) and the California roll ($6.50), and was disappointed with both. The tuna came with 5 very thin slices, had no flavour and was quite chewy. The California roll was far too heavy-handed with the mayo, and had too much rice. The second time, I had the nigiri combo, where it is chef's choice of 7 pieces nigiri + 4 small pieces maki; it wasn't much better. The fish wasn't particularly fresh and the rice was overcooked and stodgy. (*side note: fresh fish should look shiny/glossy, not matte. Compare the fish from my picture at J2 Sushi) The interior of the restaurant is nice, and the service was lovely. I also noted that they allow you to BYOB for a mere €4 corkage fee, which is pretty awesome. Maybe I'll go again and try some of their non-sushi offerings. read more

I had a good experience at Zakura - and as many people noted, great (big) portion sizes. We started with ebi (shrimp) tempura to share - it came with 5 big prawn tempura pieces - yum! Loved the batter. I got the yakisoba noodles as my main - oh my goodness it was good. There's a combo of beef, chicken and prawns. the sauce they used to stir fry the noodles is delicoius and its also filled with loads of fresh veg. Actually I was so excited, I forgot to take a photo. Zakura is Musashi's sister restaurant. The menus are very similar and the food is just as good. They do a lunch deal during the day where some of their best dishes are reduced to about €8. You can also get a really nice bento with a decent selection of food and sushi for about €9. The staff here are always lovely and polite and eager to please. We didn't used to have an official sushi place in Dublin until we met Zakura. We are used to spending money on sushi to eat tiny portions, but at Zakura you can have a feast and yet not spend more than €20. The best part is that they have cheap small dishes so you can taste a couple of different things. The rolls are big and fulfilling, everything is amazingly fresh and the quality of the ingredients is top. Try the fried ice cream for dessert. read more

This is probably my favourite restaurant at present. Having spent some time in Japan I found it hard to get some really good authentic Japanese food in Dublin, but Zakura gives you just that. Everything is delicious from the sushi to the katsu! It's a hidden gem on Wexford street. I would always recommend booking as they are so busy. The last two times I have been was with a group of 10 people and we struggled to spend more than €21 between us and we left some food behind at that. Unbelievable value. The sushi here is mediocre, whereas the hot food (ramen, etc.) is good. Below are some pros and cons: Pros: -The noodle dishes are good and flavorful. -BYOB, if that appeals to you. They also serve inexpensive wine and beer. -The food arrives quickly. Cons: -The sushi is mediocre, at best. Also, there aren't that many raw fish options - the menu is geared far more towards cooked Japanese food. -The food actually comes out too quickly, which makes it difficult to accommodate if you've ordered several dishes. I honestly don't understand how they make the food that quickly, unless some of it is pre-made. -The restaurant during "prime time" is generally way too loud. I don't know if it's the clientele, the acoustics, or both, but you often will need to yell to your partner across the table in order to be heard. read more

To be honest, I never tried their food. Just Eat claims that I can order from them for delivery in Dublin 4. It then allowed me to place my order and the restaurant confirmed my order. I then got a call from the restaurant telling me that they can't in fact deliver to my area and I should call just eat to cancel because they were too busy to call themselves. I ate here once and I found the food average, not bad but also not remarkable... to be honest I prefer to spend a little more and leave the restaurant happy (expecially because I love sushi!). The loudness of the place (thanks to a table with people that screamed like they were on a street) was a bad point too, maybe someone of the staff that asks kindly to lower the volume would have been a nice move... at least for the other customers. P.S. I was not able to find information about the freezing procedures necessary to avoid Anisakis in the raw fish... if they follow that rules it would be nice if they give an advice to the customers, as it would be a big positive remark! read more
