Though I adore my straight folx, I needed my dose of rainbow during my trip to Puerto Rico.
This tiny bar was overflowing with friendly queers. While songs of Barbara Streisand, Cher and other gay sing-a-long favorites played in the background, I was pleased to see that the bar was perfectly dim. Lit just enough via the glow of twinkling rainbow and Halloween decorative lights gracing every wall and surface. It was festive and full of glittery Halloween decor too.
We quickly got to know the bartender, Jefferey who was kind and attentive and kept my cup filled with Don Q Rum and coke. Nicely priced at $6 a cup. He was as heavy handed as any gay bar bartender should be. The other bartender gave us our own bowl of salted peanuts too. The patrons were just as friendly. We got to know one gentleman who expressed that he was fighting with his boyfriend because his boyfriend took his parking spot...so he took his frustrations to the bar. Before he left he announced that he was going home to fight . We wished him well and good luck.
Unfortunately, we could not stay long enough for the drag Queen show that Jeffrey informed us of at midnight, but it definitely felt like home. The patrons gave the impression that they took care of each other there and that is usually how I measure a good gay bar. If I ever go back to Puerto Rico, I'd definitely hit up this bar and the Drag Queen show with it. read more
