Saturday matinee show @ New Amsterdam theater, NY The show was very entertaining with spectacular settings and dazzling costumes. However, Genie was the star of the show not Aladdin and Jasmine. Genie was funny and elevated excitement to the show. There were two songs, A Million Miles Away and A Whole New World that were sang together by Aladdin and Jasmine together but both songs were not harmonious or impressive. The seats were very small and the ushers let people in when shows were in progress. read more

I don't think there is a more perfect NY night than dinner and a show. And I really think that Aladdin is one of those shows that anyone will love! This was my second time seeing the musical, with about 6 or so years in between, and I was all smiles the entire time. If you loved the Disney movie as a kid, you'll want to sing along with the cast. If you can't remember a thing about the Disney movie, than great! No spoilers. The cast was amazing. The actor that plays Iago (the parrot sidekick) stole the whole damn show. He was absolutely hysterical and played by such a tallented actor. I also loved the genie (of course!) and Aladdin's three friends. Honestly, everyone did amazing and I will happily see this play for a third time. The theater itself is a sight to see. Beautiful carvings adorn every inch of the walls and ceilings so I basically spent the minutes leading up to showtime and intermission just marvelling at the details. You won't regret tickets to Aladdin. And if you are flexible on time and dates, enter the lottery! Enjoy the show and don't forget your $22 glass of wine (but we knew that, it's Broadway). read more

I liked it. The geniue was a little too theatrical, I know its the character but he was a little too over the top. But overall it was goid shoe and a nice way to spend a couple hours out of yhe rain on the day I went. A show that all ages can enjoy. read more

No food or drinks allowed, never forget! We had to chug all our drinks before the ticket scan. The interior is extraordinary, make sure to look at the walls and ceiling. The musical was spectacular, it completely blew my mind. The set design and costumes are magical. Sadly there is no Abu or Raja, but Iago was the gem of the show. They chose incredible performers, the people chosen to portray Aladdin and Jasmine were perfect.... It was like they really jumped out of the Disney cartoon!!! Genie was amazing, his energy is unmatched. Pay attention to the glitter on his head, it was amazingggggg. The show was so funny and everyone did such an amazing job. Wait til you get to the whole new world song..... I had tears in my eyes. This was my first movie experience in the theater as a class trip, so the nostalgia hit me real hard. You can't go wrong with this show, everything was good. Also, when you wait in line for the concession stand, don't ignore the little booth on the left hand side... everyone waits in the long line because it's in the middle. Don't be a follower, walk in and stay on the left. Also, as with all broadway shows, once intermission starts, race to the bathroom or you will be waiting on a line with 25 people in front of you and no time for the concession stand! read more

This was a fabulous adaption from the Disney version of the story. From start to end, I was engaged with the performances, set design, and musical numbers. I went to see this show on Sunday, April 27th at 3pm and it was a packed house. My mother and I sat in the mezzanine center, row AA, seats 101 and 102. These tickets cost $423.50, and it's worth the price. If you get these seats, you'll be at the very front of mezzanine's premium seating, with nobody in front to block your view. However, these seats can also be very tight for those who are tall like myself. As a 5'8 woman, my knees felt pretty compressed between the seats and the wall, so my movement was pretty limited. Having guests sitting beside you doesn't help with comfort, but what more can you do with a old theatre that's been open since 1903? Almost every seat is bound to be too close to other guests, so might as well spend that extra money to get a better view of the show. The employees were kind and patient, especially one man who was confronted by an aggressive guest. I felt bad for him, but I also admired how he didn't waver from his composure- that's the mark of a stellar employee. The show itself was wonderful for people of all ages. The actors did their part in bringing the magical story to life. I want to give a special shout out to Marcus Shane who played, "Iago" and Michael James Scott who played, "Genie." These two stood out to me as being incredibly funny and entertaining. The vocal ranges these two had to do was nothing short of incredible. I think this is a great musical to see with family, friends, or even solo. I'd recommend it to people visiting New York City for the first time, who have a passion for the arts. Watching "Aladdin" on broadway will be like stepping into a whole new world of entertainment! read more

The most amazing show on Broadway ! I'm a huge Disney fan and this was the best Disney show I've seen along side the Lion King on Broadway . I must say that the Genie was the best part of the show ....his enthusiasm and voice were amazing !!!! When the carpet ride scene began everyone gasped and instantly mesmerized . No matter where you sit in the Theater you have an amazing view. During the Prince Ali song piece however there is a big bang and silver streamers shoot out and if you're not sitting in the front rows at the bottom near the stage, you will not get that 3D action . Another thing we really loved were the stage props and fire sparkles which added ohhhh ahhhh moments . This is a must see show with not disappointed from our perspective. read more

Such an incredible show and gorgeous venue! If you are visiting New York and are looking for a fun, entertaining show that's good for all ages, this is it. The show was the perfect length with a short intermission. You can buy drinks and snacks in the theater, for a pretty price, it's broadway, to be expected. The cast and few of Aladdin are spectacular. You really feel their energy and enthusiasm. The theater is absolutely lovely and charming. You definitely feel that old New York charm. This is such a wonderful production! The set and costumes are truly beautiful. I was impressed by all of the scenes - special shoutout to the set of the Cave of Wonders, which was beautiful and so well done, the set of "One Jump Ahead" where Aladdin runs through the city and rooftops, and the set of "A Whole New World". I'd highly recommend to tourists and NY locals alike, it's definitely a show that has iconic songs, several songs that are unique to the musical, and some epic costume changes throughout that left me windblown! This is such an AMAZING Broadway show! It's a classic Disney story that both adults and children will love. The show had several classic songs and they also added a few new ones which were really good. The costume designs were stunning, colorful and unique. Theater seating was good - had a good view from mezzanine level. Genie was entertaining. 2 for 1 Broadway week is always good for discount to see the show. Nice carpet ride...if one looks carefully, can see the wires. If sitting orchestra, probably won't see the clothing changes and appearing/disappearing but from up above one can...but still cool. Plenty of souvenirs to choose for purchase and snacks available as well. There is a 15 minute intermission...but depending where one sits, it may be a trek but the lines move. read more

It was PACKED full of kids tours. More children than adults. Kids were talking and yelling the whole performance and no one stopped them. They were constantly standing up and in the way. In the beginning they were all trying to get seated when it started and the "adults" with them were yelling during it. 2nd show we have seen on broadway this trip and the other one was 100% 5 stars and this was a terrible experience and a complete waste of money since we could not enjoy the musical AT ALL!!!!!! read more

You Ain't Never Had A Friend Like Me! Want to see a feel good musical? Aladdin is so sweet and so nostalgic. This was a movie that my kids watched again and again. Riffraff! Street rat! There's so much more to me. Aladdin is one of those musicals that just makes you happy. The singing was great. The costumes amazing. Set design is fun. Dancing was so good. Watching Aladdin and Jasmine fly on their carpet ride, magical, but..... The Genie. Amazing! Michael James Scott is funny, joyful and channels the role originated by Robin Williams so beautifully. Love the New York twists thrown in for good measure. Bought same day tickets at TKTS for 40 % including fees. Tickets were $57 in the orchestra including front row seats. The view from all of the seats looked good and the theater is really beautiful. Highly recommended musical for Disney fans. read more

Fantastic set design and costuming. Excellent unique and very technical choreo. Aladdin and Jasmine and Jafar were awesome. We had the understudy for genie and he was not great. Gave 30% to all the choreo and always was out of breath. Sad, cuz he could've been so great, but he let me down on some spectacular numbers. Great new musical numbers that are different from the film. Great seats for us from the lottery. read more

What a fun and enjoyable show! For my first time on broadway I was thoroughly impressed. The genie carried the ENTIRE show on his back, including adding in many dialogues of his own! He is a complete star and had the entire audience laughing the entire time. The only reason i took one star off is for the fight scenes with the guards and Aladdin / his buddies. These fight scenes were some of the lamest, uncoordinated, and poorly timed fight scenes i've ever seen performed. It was quite cringy, but i'm assuming that's part of the whole disney music experience. Aladdin and Jasmine both had beautiful voices that blew everyone away. Fun, festive and entertaining! Aladdin on Broadway is a "must experience". From the very beginning, the music lures you into the story just like in the movies. There was very good detail in the props and decor and the choice of colors in the costumes were beautiful. This not only captivated the adults but even the kids too! The cast were amazing! Everybody was so talented and beautiful. I loved that they followed the songs in the movie and added a bit of their own as well so it was still familiar but fresh at the same time. The choreography was very well executed especially during the Arabian Nights and it was great that they really utilized the whole stage. The main cast especially Aladdin (Jacob Gutierrez), Jasmine (Shoba Narayan) and Genie (Michael James Scott) were spectacular! All had beautiful and strong voices that echoed the whole theater. They did a great job with these talented people! Genie is indeed an entertainer!! He was awesome! And lets not forget Iago (Don Darryl Rivera) - he was a natural!! My 4 stars is really just that I felt some of the songs/dancing took too long. I know i know, "long"- should be better no? However some scenes may have needed less songs ang more story line rather than the opposite. I felt like the Act II especially during Jafar's defeat was a little rushed. But nonetheless, this was a great experience, a beautiful performance and worth recommending to others! read more

When in New York, you have to see at least one show, and we chose Aladdin due to scheduling and interest. What a fantastic show! The costumes were beautiful (sorry, no photos as photos weren't allowed, plus it's nice to just live in the moment and not through a lens), and there was a lot of comic relief, particularly with the character Iago, Jafar's avian sidekick. But the star of the show was the genie, played by Michael James Scott. It was a wonderful show, perfect for all ages. I highly recommend it! If this is not the greatest set design on Broadway, I don't know what is. Finally came to see Aladdin which was one of my most anticipated Broadway shows. Was very happy because I got tickets on the second floor for less than $65 which was such a steal. The theatre itself was incredible - the entrance was absolutely beautiful and it was quite cozy so anywhere you sit is a good view. Pros: - Disney is honestly so incredible at building amazing sets. Everytime the lights would turn on you wouldn't know what to expect next. The palace walls were so intricate and full of detail it was incredible. I also absolutely loved all the effects in the cave as what you believed as thick standing props would disappear and a dancer would be right behind it. Also, everyone talks about the magic carpet and its honestly amazing, I don't know how they do it without having all these strings connected to it. - The costumes were amazing. I feel like each ensemble member changed their outfits at least 5 times which was crazy. The intricacy with everything is just amazing. - It was great to see most of the cast that's supposed to play each role play the role they were assigned. I know sometimes there are understudies who play the role which is fun too but it's always a treat to be able to see the people who were casted to play these roles do just that. - The dancing was just WOW! I love how talented everyone was. - Don Darryl Rivera is freaking amazing, I really have to point him out because he was truly absolutely incredible. I have never seen an actor so right to play a role until I saw him as Iago. - Cheap ticket prices on Today Tix! Cons: - I can't say the singing and acting was the best I've ever seen but the set design makes up for it. - The seats were quite small. Overall, not a lot of bad things to say about Aladdin. I'm so thrilled that Broadway is back in NYC! Feeling thankful! And I had the opportunity to see Aladdin The Musical once again. This show is just brilliant. So this time around I'd sat in the balcony section; I was in Row D - Seat 103. I had a great view of the stage. Honestly I'd felt as though these seats were the best in the house. Aladdin is such a sweet Broadway Musical. Everyone in the cast were amazing and I felt so engaged with the key players. The story telling is fabulous and is easy to follow. I have to admit though my favorite character has to be the genie. His energy is addictive and sense of humor is just bubbly and makes you immediately smile. And my favorite scene is when Aladdin and Jasmin were flying on the magic carpet. Not sure how they do this but, wow it was so real. Wow! All those incredible bright stars immediately stole my heart. Aladdin The Musical was my first Broadway show of 2022! It's been on my list for a bit but gave up trying to see it due to COVID. I'm so happy I was able to go and we got really great seats. It was such a fun show. It's definitely family friendly but just a good time overall. The props were great and it didn't drag out. It was well paced. Gotta figure this is for kids, not adults, so judge accordingly. My niece had a wonderful time--she stayed focused the entire two & one-half hours--and so did the hundreds of children in the huge New Amsterdam Theatre. Loved the urban scenes--Aladdin being chased through the city and over rooftops--and the romantic Magic Carpet ride. Leave yourself enough time to wander around Times Square. read more

Besides Times square, the statue of liberty, Brooklyn bridge, Empire state building, if there is one thing which you don't wanna miss in new York, is Broadway show. It's quite an unforgettable experience. Something you can find only in New York and that's why it is very famous. Coming to Aladdin and New Amsterdam Theatre, what a show to put out. Aladdin comes in the top 10 in terms of earning (Lions king still tops the chart). We got the balcony first row, it was a bit high but the view was really great. I still think the Mez level is best for the show. We enjoyed every moment of the play, from the set designs, the characters, the flying carpet ( there was wow moment when the carpet starts to fly), the costumes and last but not the least...the main attraction Genie. He will make you laugh. You couldn't ask for more, the actors/actresses were spot on and did a wonderful job of keeping you entertained. One of the best parts of Disney's Aladdin movie was the beautifully complex costumes on each character. if you read the booklet handover to you before the play started, you will know, Tony winner ( Oscars for play) Gregg Barnes translated Disney's original vision from screen to stage with his spot-on designs. From desert hills to city streets to palace halls, the sets of Aladdin on Broadway transform the New Amsterdam Theatre into the city of Agrabah. Also designed bt Tony-winning creative, Bob Crowley. The only thing I can think of which was not good is the seat. They are compact, not enough leg space, my legs were cramped after the show. Otherwise, the show was brilliant. read more

Our seats on paper were not the best, very top level, very last row, cheapest tickets but must I say it was totally worth it! Managed to get really front row seats for a good nyc go week promotion (2 for 1)! The theater is intimate but beautiful (see pictures). I got there earlier and I have to say the covid vaccination and bag checks were a breeze to go through( efficient staff). I love that they have a gift store as well. It's a pity because of covid that they didn't sell refreshments as I will assume will make some profits for them. The show was spectacular and the whole crew were amazing live. The costumes changes for the whole show are like a fashion show! This is fantastic for both adults and children. They have standing ovulation at the end of the show which I'm not even surprised! Definitely give it a go when you are in town! Worth every penny ! read more

I liked Aladdin but I've seen a lot of Broadway and Off-Broadway shows so the bar is set really high. The costumes are beautiful and the actors who played Jafar and the Genie were really great. Everyone else was ok. Aladdin was a strong singer, weak actor. The limitations of not being animated kind of showed. It's not really impressive when the Genie appears, the animal characters have morphed into people, the sets are pretty but do not show much depth. If you're looking for a unique, top quality show with amazing talent this probably isn't it. If you're looking for a solid, family friendly, entertaining show and especially if you love the Robin Williams movie, this is for you. I will say, I did enjoy the show and the audience seemed to love it. It just wasn't as breathtaking as other Broadway productions. For the right price, though, I recommend it. read more

Let me start by saying I love anything theatre and Broadway. I promised myself I would start going to more Broadway shows once I'm granted life and health. This was my first time at this specific theatre and it is HUGE with lots of historical background. Disney now owns it, but during the 1960's the theatre was a safe haven for homeless people (which I loveeeeee). Now the show.....I grew up on Aladdin as I am a 90's child. I was filled with lots of emotions knowing the songs word for word, and now being an adult the lyrics definitely hit harder and of course with more understanding. My husband and I had balcony seats row B seats 13 and 15 and the view was spectacular. The cast was nothing short of amazing. There were lots of props and theatrics which I also appreciated. It was a FULL HOUSE but very warm as everyone sang along to songs we grew up on TOGETHER. I also purchased a tea mug it was about 23 dollars after tax. I want to give a huge huge thank you to the Aladdin cast especially GENIE for bringing my childhood back for those few hours. It's a show u will never forget and definitely the nostalgia kicked in . I will definitely come back to watch again but this time with my son. read more
