Our first time here even though we live a few minutes away. Food was excellent! Homemade taste. I had machaca with eggs, a lot of shredded beef. Refried beans were tasty and simple fried potatoes. My wife had chile relleno and chile verde with rice and beans, very tasty. Service was excellent, severa very attentive. Though a few table and small the ambiance was very homey. This is our old go to restaurant for traditional Mexican food. Our favorites are the shrimp enchiladas, menudo & huevos rancheros. The staff is friendly & helpful. Although this location is smaller than the Moreno Valley restaurant the quality of the food is the same. Delicious! read more

It's our favorite spot in town for a bite to eat. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are made fresh. The taco Tuesday is great, $1.99 for a great selection of tacos. I'm from San Diego, I ended up in this area after living in Las Vegas for a while. So if there is one food I know and love, it's Mexican Food. I first discovered Zapata's Family Restaurant in Moreno Valley. I was a regular buyer of their Tamales in Winter and would ask for a vat of their Salsa (seriously the best salsa casera in existence) they would always sell the salsa in a 32oz styrofoam cup, and it didn't go wasted. I moved to Menifee and was very happy that this gem was here in Romoland. My go to for breakfast is the Chilaquiles con Asada with red sauce, my Dinner choice is a wet Zapata's 1lb Burrito. The food is good but man they get my order wrong pretty often from substituting an order of French fries for rice, forgetting items in the order, or missing bacon on my bacon cheeseburger! As I said before the food is good but always check to make sure your order is correct. read more

I was looking for a new place to eat. Somewhere I had not been to and I found Zapata's Mexican Restaurant. It's in Nuevo and it feels like you are driving Into a super small town. The restaurant itself is small, but there are enough tables to fit you right in. The workers are very welcoming and attentive to your needs. My soda was flat and they exchanged it right away. They bring you chips and salsa while you look at the menu. Everything looked pretty good as they brought it out to neighboring tables. I had the chilaquiles with steak and they were good. They had a kick to them, which is always welcoming. The French toast was always good. I wanted to try a lengua taco, but they did not have any. That was a bummer. Overall, great place with great food and great hosts. I will return to Zapata's. read more

Let me start off by saying I hate leaving bad comments or ratings especially under these times. That said....we were in the area and were going to stop off at the Moreno Valley location but since we were closer to the Nuevo location*which is a location I didn't know they had* We figured the food would be the same delicious food we have had for years ......we were wrong. The salsa- same good tasting salsa. The beans - I thought the beans would be the same....they weren't. They lacked any flavor. No salt whatsoever. The rice - It was undercooked & a bit hard. Chile relleno - it was good Carne Asada plate - it was the same delicious dish my partner has had in their MV location. I hope this was just a bad day & that they correct this. My favorite restaurant in town!! Service is amazing, food is out of this world, and the little hole-in-the-wall ambiance is perfect for our little town. I only give 4 stars because this last year the prices have gone up a bit too much, but it still doesn't stop me from buying this for my family at least once a week. Stopped by here to try this restaurant since moving to Nuevo. It's my second time here so it's worth a review. The Chile Relleno with Cheese plate was delicious! If you're a tortilla lover, be advised plate only comes with two tortillas. Ordered 2 soft tacos taking advantage of the $1.99 deal on Tuesday and side of chips and guacamole. The order was to go. Besides the fact that they tried charging me $8.99 for a 4oz guacamole (no chips included). The tacos were nothing but oil, I took the order to go, by the time I got to my job to enjoy my meal was too late to complain. The tortillas were soaked in grease and the to make matters worse the meat was ice cold. I was able to soak 2 large napkins in the oil and still was able to drip the container. It's really nice to have a Mexican Food spot here in town. My family orders here regularly. Although I have never been to the actual restaurant for dine in, i have done takeout before. There was no shortage of salsa, and the chips were great. I got the nachos, and it's so great because they definitely pile on the toppings, so that you're able to put a little something on each chip. My parents say that the tacos are nice and crunchy, and my neighbors enjoy the Mexican pizza. It's really nice when a community can come together to support a small business.
