Overall have had 2 very good experiences here. My husband and I have been here twice and split something. Both times we were very pleased with our food. The first time we got the burrito, and the second time we got the chimichanga. The chips and salsa were very fresh and tasted great both times. Still warm, perfectly salted. The salsa was delicious and also tastes very fresh. We got filled up on chips before splitting our meal and it was easily enough for the both of us to enjoy. The chicken was very tender and everything tasted great. The atmosphere here is very nice and we noted that we liked the chairs, overall feel and design of this establishment as well as the outdoor seating area. Came in for lunch and sat at the bar. We were greeted and served by Izahi. He was personable and attentive, but wasn't overly attentive which I like. I ordered a strawberry margarita (but upgraded the tequila to Patron). It was PERFECT. Not too sweet. The (complimentary) chips and salsa came out at the same time our ordered guacamole was served. Both were enjoyed immensely. For entrees, we had the supreme burrito and the Birria tacos. Both dishes were amazing, especially the Birria tacos. That consome was excellent! Friday night, party of two and looking for a dinner spot. We ordered queso to go along with the chips and salsa. All was delicious and my teen was happy with the queso. I adore a well-made margarita and don't think this is the spot. Patron is my favorite, so I ordered the Patron Margarita. The pop of flavor wasn't there and definitely lacking Patron. (reason for 4 stars) I ordered the asada and shrimp. The flavors were amazing. The sauce over the shrimp had a little kick to it and was so delicious. There are mushrooms in this as well which isn't listed on the menu but that is a plus since I like mushrooms. The cook got my steak cooked beautifully, medium as requested. My teen ordered the Great Asada Burrito. It was massive. She really enjoyed the flavors. She typically doesn't care for beans but liked the consistency of the beans in the burrito. My carne asada burrito was more than i could eat and my partner's pulpo a la diabla was also unfinished. She thought the sauce neither spicy nor hot, but it kind of overwhelmed the octopus. A friend and I found Zapata's when another Mexican restaurant in the area was on a 45 minute wait. On a Wednesday. Ooof The chips and salsa were okay, the fresh guacamole was okay, the fajitas were good, I loved the house made tortillas! While visiting family in Port Saint Lucie, we started looking for a Mexican restaurant with vegetarian and vegan options. Though many options lacked variety, Zapata's Border Cafe had quite a few items that were vegetarian or could easily be made vegetarian. To star, the chips ans salsa were amazing (we had to force ourselves to stop eating them so we wouldn't be full by the time our entrees came)! The guacamole was some of the best I have EVER had, creamy and smooth with phenomenal flavor. Our food was also delicious. The portions were outstanding, especially for the relatively low price! Our waitress disappeared from our area leaving my fellow diners and our party for a very long time. No other waitstaff was seen servicing our 1/2 of the restaurant, nor was there anyone to talk to. This has been my favorite restaurant since we moved here in 2004. Only good Chile relleno I've had since my mother in law died. Food is fantastic and really well priced. Separate bar area if you prefer to sit there. Always nice friendly accommodating staff that seem happy to see you. Great margaritas, drinks not expensive. And if one of your party doesn't like Mexican food they have the best burger around. Love this place!! read more

Wow! It's my mother's fave PSL Mexican restaurant. There's a big menu with endless choices. Typically too many meal options= fair food. Not true at Zapata's. Everything that came to the table was delicious. The salsa is spectacular. Two for one wine special was the icing on the cake. Cute restaurant with kitchy Mexican decor. My family and I have been coming to this restaurant for 9 years regularly. After today's incident it will be our last. I wanted to take my kids out for lunch and went to the website to have them figure out what they would like to eat so we could make the visit less hectic. Well I saw that kids eat free on Sundays with Adult entree as long as the kids meal is a Mexican dish. I got the Chipotle chicken enchiladas and 3 kids quesadillas with rice making them "Mexican dishes" The bill comes and they did not remove one of the kid meals and I ask her to do so because it was Sunday. She quickly interrupted me saying no we don't do that... I told her it's on the site and it should be honored. She said no that needs to be "refreshed" we don't do that now. I told her that was unfair they have that on Google then unwilling to honor the advertising statement. I explain that I would pay for what it's suppose to be. (Bill was $44.23) I give her $38.23 and we walked out (in no hurry) It was raining so we stood outside for a little bit and she came out saying if I don't pay the kids meal she's calling the police right in front of my children....I ask her to please call them and that I'd wait right here for them. She said never mind just go and don't come back. ALL THIS FOR a $5.95 kids meal. We will never return eat here. Very unprofessional and false advertisement. Be aware before dining here. read more

Really disappointing. I had been to this restaurant a few years ago and remembered the food being good. The salsa they brought today with the chips might as well have come straight out of a can of tomatoes. No flavor whatsoever. My ground beef burrito grande with "sour cream" was a bust, too. It was totally bland, no seasoning whatsoever. I had to find a bottle of hot sauce to help it. The sour cream was nothing but a skinny ribbon out of a bottle with a small nozzle squirted on stingily to decorate the burrito. There wasn't enough of it to taste. The wait staff was accommodating but was hard to find. That's why I got up and looked around to find the hot sauce myself. Located right off of US -1 in Port Saint Lucie they are the go to spot. From the looks of the website they had a celebrity Chef who visited with them some time ago and gave them high praise. Very friendly staff and you can tell that they take pride in offering up their unique dishes. From the house made soups to the sizzling entrees you won't go wrong at this establishment. for $9.99 I had one of their lunch specials (Zapata Bowl which is their authentic recipe of black beans, corn, lettuce, sour cream cheese and fresh avocado with your choice of meat) and a side of quesadilla . that alone was just enough but you get fresh chips and salsa along with a soup as well. read more

been here many times for chili Delano's and taco salad. at best it's always been mediocre. Todays visit left me with a bad taste in my mouth. Sweet tea was on the turning point of rank and old, (you can't fool a southern girl on sweet tea!) taco salad was COLD, shell, meat, rice and beans were cold. over all, it was not a good dining experience, at least Taco Bell is hot when it comes out. My tacos, beef, onions with cilantro and a lime tasted like they were stored in the fridge for a week. I could not eat them. I've had the delicious fish tacos many times, but to my surprise they changed from the delectable, flaky grilled or blackened option to the heavy, greasy fried option without warning. Let me also say that there were only 2 of us at the table. We got there at 5:30, and they were busier then usual. We were seated. A while later, drink orders were taken. Chips and Salsa showed up quickly. We had to WAIT for the wine. Then we ordered. One was chicken fajitas and the other, chicken/steak fajitas. Nothing confusing. Meanwhile other diners arrived with some larger parties. They ordered AND ended up eating before our food arrived.. Still no fajitas. FINALLY....our fajitas arrived. JUST the fajitas....NOT the other things to go in them. THEN that showed up. Hardly anything was on the plate, and what WAS there looked like the plates were filled by someone with a blindfold on. I have been here a few times. I really like this place. Nice place to stop for just a margarita and an app or lunch/dinner. We ate dinner here last night. It was very good. On Saturday night they have a mariachi band. They play for tips and they were really talented. We really enjoyed listening to them sing while we ate our dinner. My husband left his phone there and when we couldn't find it, we called his phone. They picked up to tell us we had left it there. Wow, there still are honest people in this world! Very disappointed. Our most resent visit here was less than okay. Over seasoned and undercooked vegetables. Who knows what the "cheese sauce" actually was that is blanked over the"Baja Burrito". My margarita was terrible. They have obviously gone down hill since our first visit here a couple of years ago. Too bad because the staff is super nice. The food is good but heavy and after you consume the food, you will need a good nap. So, my crew were in the mood for some really good Mexican. We were seated by the windows on a beautiful afternoon in Florida and the first thing I noticed were black specks and how the beverage & dessert stand stuck to the table as well as the salt and pepper bottles. Not trying to be rude but this little things do make me lose my appetite and makes me expect the good here to be mediocre which some were half and half. The waiter brought out cos and salsa. My crew were disappointed because this was their second time here and my first. They mentioned about how amazing their salsa was but the one that was served to us came from a canned paste, as if the kitchen ran out of the real, good stuff. Oops! Other than that, they make pretty decent brewed tea and my favorite is the raspberry. It's not super sweet not bitter, just perfect in the middle. For appetizers, we tried the fiesta platter which was alright. The only thing I enjoyed on it were the nachos. The cheese with refried beans had an unsettling after taste in the back of my throat which I didn't touch again. My meal consisted of the Don Ramon's special. It was okay; what I mean by that is that I came to discover how crappy the silverware were. I had to literally eat my skirt streak like ripping pieces of beef jerky with my hands. That was the only thing I liked on my plate other than my side of veggies. The skirt steak was delicious and fresh! I had my sauteed shrimp on the side so my crew could eat them for me since I'm allergic so no food was wasted. I heard really good reviews but didn't have a great experience with the meals.
