The number one reason to visit here? It boasts what is undeniably the most mammoth Mexican Candy/Snack selection hereabouts (brands include: Pica-Bola; Betamex; Duvalín; Nucita; Jovy; Bubbaloo; El Chavo; Dulces Tipicos). That gives it skreet cred...who DOESN'T like candy and snacks? There's a nice Carnicería in the back...didn't really look at the health score, but everything looks nice and fresh. Good place for, for instance, homemade Chorizo; recently on FB, they announced they were offering Barbacoa, Pollo Rostrisado, and Carnitas. The produce section is nice, but I think I prefer Guanajuanto on those items. However, the Baby Mangoes are inviting...and if you're thinking of using, say, Cilantro, or lemon-infused Mayo, do stop off at one of our Mexican grocers. Although there are two Mexican bakeries in town, Pan Dulce and such are trucked in from Albertville's Guelagetza Bakery and Juquilita Bakery in Morristown, TN. I recommend La Colonial over on Jordan for fresher, immediate, in-house offerings (although its grocery section is not as extensive...go to both places!). You'll find Montes™ Blue Corn Tortillas; Cal-C-Tose; Choco Milk; Mojo Criollo Marinade. They also carry Cruz de Malta™ Yerba Mate in both Orange and Lemon...which I need to try, ASAP...a good selection of cheeses and other dairy products (the refrigerated area looks pretty good...Queso Oaxaca; Crema Guatemalteca; Agria El Mexicano). A visit is definitely worth your time, though language may be a problem if you're not Spanish savvy. However, they are comparatively friendly and you can usually find someone who can clue you in.

It was so inedible I knew immediately they had scraped off the old batter, rebattered it - and refried it... possibly a few times. Same with the gizzards. Many of them were inedible. Same with the potatoes wedges. They were not cooked fresh either. I asked the women serving if they could fry me some fresh potato wedges and they said they don't fry anything. Someone else fries the food and all they do is serve it. That's also a red flag. The portion sizes are super small as well. If you go down there road you can get larger portion sizes. The restaurant is spacious and gets loud when there's a crowd. Thankfully, there's usually a place for our larger group (6 people) to be seated comfortably. Service is very nice but slow. Trivia runs for a little over an hour and both times our food has taken about 45 minutes to come out, despite our comparatively small orders. My friend who comes to trivia does like the food here (he always gets a beef chimichanga FWIW), but everyone else has now tried several different dishes and not once been satisfied or even just not unhappy. The one shining star has been the cheese dip. It really is pretty good cheese dip, lol. The first time I ordered the chipotle chicken, which is supposed to be chicken in a chipotle sauce. I was firstly surprised and disappointed to see these were small strips of chicken rather than a chicken breast. But that would've been okay...had the chipotle sauce been decent. It had no chipotle flavor and honestly mostly just tasted like sour cream. It was very weird. My parents have tried a beef burrito, beef taco, and chicken taco. They said the beef has an unpleasant metallic taste and the shredded chicken was, according to my dad, inedible. Most recently, my husband got a carne asada burrito and said it tasted so unpleasant he was concerned about whether he should even eat it. Fortunately, no ill effects came about as a result of it; he determined it was ultimately just very low quality meat with an unpleasant texture and taste. My father in law just doesn't order anything except a beer after coming for breakfast once and having a bad time there, too. On my most recent visit, I got a side of rice and beans to eat with chips and cheese dip. The rice had been cooked into sticky, mushy lumps and had no flavor. At this point, I have no idea what to order that might even come close to satisfying my palate. It's disappointing. We may be forced back due to circumstances like our availability in order for us to play our favorite game and have time together. If so, I'll continue to try different things until I can maybe someday find something that works. I want to like this place and wish I had the experience so many other reviewers have had.

We were quickly seated and drinks brought out. Chips and salsa arrived next. Dave ordered the birria tacos and I ordered the lunch chicken fajitas and chicken chipotle soup. The birria tacos were 3 each and served with consommé, red sauce, green sauce, and rice. The consommé was flavored well with fresh onions and cilantro. Each birria taco had beef, cheese, onions and cilantro. Taking a bite, the tasty consommé made the taco flavor enhanced. These tacos were delicious. 5/5 The chicken fajitas and accompanying salad plate with corn tortillas was delicious. The meat was flavored well and there was a generous portion of food. 5/5 My chicken chipotle soup was delicious.
