Got a couple treats from this shop a few weeks ago and thoroughly enjoyed myself. This place is located in a more residential part of Decatur. I was surprised to find it in the old Whisk'd location -- RIP to Whisk'd; I loved that restaurant. Street parking only but the street is quiet and it's easy to pop in and out. Inside there's a huge array of confections: classic chocolates like turtles, chocolate covered pretzels, marshmallows, etc., as well as fresh baked cookies and a somewhat startling amount of freeze dried candies. I know that's sort of having a moment right now, but WOW there was a lot of freeze dried stuff to choose from. I don't dislike it but I prefer chocolatey treats so I skirted around the big display. I came about 1.5 hours before closing and will admit the selection (other than freeze dried) was a little sparse. I'm glad they're not letting products go to waste, but in the future, definitely come early if you want to ensure you get everything. More than one customer asked/called in for something only to be turned away while I was shopping around. Of course, the holidays might also have something to do with very high demand. Anyway, I wound up leaving with two cookies (only about four varieties were available when I arrived -- I took a chocolate chip and a brown butter cookie), three chocolate covered pretzels, and one pecan turtle. The service was limited to being rung up at the cash register, but the employee was nice in our limited interaction. My husband and I enjoyed all the treats over the following days! The chocolate was smooth and rich on pretzels and pecans, the caramel chewy and satisfying. The pecans and pretzels were both crispy and fresh -- no problems with staleness here. The cookies were good, too, though perhaps a tiny touch oily. I liked the brown butter better but both were enjoyable! They're the perfect size to share. I'd definitely return here for sweets! read more

UPDATE: Owner blocked me on Facebook after I responded to another customer who shared their experience about them being closed with no warning. Highly unprofessional. Do not reccomend Mel's sweet treats. Drove all the way to Decatur to try their Dubai chocolate cups. Hours listed were 10AM-3PM. My boyfriend has a small window for lunch, we agreed to meet here and arrived at 11:20. Around 6 others pulled up and were equally dissatisfied to see Mel's closed. I looked online and found her fb, where other people commented with the same concern. She responded with "I made a post Sunday, sorry you missed it." I am not constantly on Facebook and cannot even find the post she is referring to. This is bad for business, a lot of customers walked away. We had a short window for lunch so weren't even able to try the Dubai cups. Won't be coming back. read more

I went here after seeing a tiktok and wanted to try their Dubai chocolate bar. The place is small and welcoming.There were plenty of other desserts to choose from but we all know why most people were there.My husband got their freeze dried red hots and I got a dubai bar. The dubai chocolate bar was a little pricey but it was big and full of filling so I was willing to pay. So far I have tried a few from other places and this one is my favorite. The only bad thing is that they close so early, so by the time I cam go they are closed. I think they should at least right now keep their doors open until 6pm so they can take advantage of the high demand read more

A blessing and a curse. I was told about Mel's by my neighbor and my sons teacher. I went in to buy the teachers cookies and of course I had to get one for myself.... It was yesterday and I can't stop thinking about how delicious the cookie was. SO SOFT, so CHEWY, so moist!! Hands down the best cookies I've ever had. I will probably continue dreaming about Mel's cookies forever. Her baking makes you realize all the other cookies you've had before in your life we're not done right. Hers are PERFECTION! Mel is short for Melissa. She makes some excellent cookies. Pick out a few different ones to take with you. They're big enough to share. This little cafe also has coffee, and restrooms. Not to mention the candy, sandwiches , milkshakes, etc. I give this place a four and a half. From 6th Ave., I turn west on the smaller old 14th street immediately next to the candy factory. What a gem I found!!! Just visiting with family when the charming storefront beckoned me to come in. I was rewarded with a beautiful shop and it's cheerful sweet owner. The surroundings are a delight but the baked goods are the real treasure. I bought an assortment of cookies for the family and had a fresh hot cup of coffee. Co-worker called early in the week to order turkey cookies and the lady was rude and said "we're sold out...." Which, is USUALLY always the case. But, my co-worker had called last week and was told to call back this week and place an order, but when she did, she was basically cut off and repeatedly told "we're sold out." Mel's Sweet Treats is a great little sweets shop. They carry lots of cookies, candies and one of my favorites, Cheese Straws. I went in today to get a little treat for my granddaughter to take to her teacher on Meet the Teacher Day. The sweet young lady who waited on me packaged the candy in a pretty little bag just perfect for a gift. No charge for the added service either! They have lots of goodies packaged in cellophane bags tied with pretty ribbon. Prices are very reasonable. I will be using this shop as my "go to" for gifts! read more

I love the atmosphere, and the two ladies that normally wait on myself and my family are very nice and pleasant. The sweet shop is very adorable at holidays. There are normally a lot of different treats for sale. I didn't give this 5 starts because I don't like all the hair in the face and only a small part of the hair net covering the back of the head. i feel all the hair should be covered when preparing food so that hair doesn't touch our food or cookies, nor fall into it. The hair at the front of the face and sides is what needs covered more than the back. Had this discussion with some other regulars who felt the same way. I asked to talk to the manager or owner one day but she was unavailable. I decided to leave it but check my food over before i eat it. I love the music they play there, it makes a great atmosphere but sometimes we cannot hear it over all the chatter in the kitchen. We often hear their conversations and miss what we are saying to each other. LOL. Since the food is great, the cookies are good, and the candies are sweet we keep going back. read more
