Today was the first and last time I will ever go back to Ard's. When I went in, I made the comment to the woman behind the counter. She starred at saying nothing. I told her I was impressed with their beautiful wine selection. Her response to me was said in a condescending manner as she said "when you figure out what you want let me know. She was unfriendly from the time I walked in. She knew I was a first time shopper but nevertheless offered no help. Great products alone do not make a retail seafood establishment worth going in if you are treated poorly. read more

Quality of seafood=5 stars. Customer service=0 stars. I have been a long time customer of Ards and the quality of the fresh Gulf seafood is excellent. It's unfortunate though that the staff is so unprofessional and rude. I could look past it until recently when the young girl working there delighted in telling me she didn't place my order for $60 worth of crab claws because I "never called her back". I wasn't told to call her back and she didn't leave me a message to. She proceeded to argue with me (even as I'm telling her it's no big deal) in front of other staff, customers, and my children. I eventually had to tell her "we could go around and around all day, it's no big deal, please let me get my seafood and leave". I will never be back. I have worked with the public for 16 years and I would never dream of speaking to someone that way. I work in Huntsville and will be giving my business to A and V from now on. read more

Fresh gulf shrimp. Need I say more? It's always good. I have them steam the seafood I get and it's packed very well for traveling.

Went last year to Ard's Seafood Market and picked up a couple of clusters of crab legs and some other good seafood items for lunch. Everything was fresh and delicious. The great thing is that Ard's will cook the clusters and the other items for you. read more

I had the Large Fried Shrimp basket which came with hushpuppies and fries, the kind that have the crispy coating on them. I was hoping that I was going to get, fresh from the Alabama Gulf Shrimp but although they had the raw fresh shrimp the Fried Shrimp that you get with the Fried Shrimp Basket is from Frozen Shrimp. I didn't try the steamed but may the next time around because it would be a place that I'd revisit but not one that I'd make a special out of the way trip to. The Shrimp was good but not great and not near as good as Georges Steak Pit or Lash's Seafood near Florence, Al which is some of the best fresh Gulf Shrimp in North Alabama area but this review is for Ard's. The Good: The Shrimp, fries, and hushpuppies are cooked right before you as you order so when you get them they are HOT and Fresh out of the oil. The taste is also good but not near as good as fresh gulf shrimp nor is it the best frozen fried shrimp I've had. I've had much better down at/on the Gulf and at some other North Alabama places but for North Alabama it was good and more importantly wasn't bad. The crispy fries were also tasty and the crispy coating (which I don't usually like) was actually good and did make the fries crispy in texture. The Hushpuppies were also good and definitely had corn inside but I don't know that there was onion because if there was then it wasn't noticeable. Also having a 95 Alabama Heath rating was also very good. The Baskets are served up in a Styrofoam container so you can take them or eat in whichever is your pleasure. Last, another positive, is that according to their street signage Ard's Seafood Market received the 2016, 2017, & 2018 People's Choice Award "Taste of the Valley". I don't know if that was for their fresh (raw) fish or what they served cooked for inside. The Negatives: Although the Fried Shrimp basket was frozen shrimp it was good but what was not so good was that the owner/cook/manager couldn't tell me where the shrimp originated so I don't know if it was domestic shrimp or from Southeast Asia. Another negative, minor though, was that if you want to eat in your seating is very limited with only about 6 or 7 tables and the tables mostly set 2 to 3 patrons each. Also with no drink machine you don't get refills and your only choice are Pepsi bottled products in a cooler inside. Ard's is a good place to eat and the Seafood is tasty but I can't say it's one of the best in North Alabama or not one that I would say is worth driving a long way for or going way out of your way for. If in Decatur though then it's well worth stopping by if you hav a taste for seafood. read more

Sushi grade salmon was delicious! Go here! As you would expect selection varies. I wanted fresh oysters in the shell, but they didn't have any on this visit, but no big whoop - found other delightful things including whitefish, royal red shrimp (frozen) and some sea scallops (frozen) for my best friend. This is not to imply all of their stuff, or the majority is frozen. They have a great selection of fresh seafood available, too! I would suggest going earlier than 5-ish PM on a Saturday (before an upcoming crawfish boil) to get the largest variety of selection. I hope you try Ard's you won't be sorry! read more

I have done takeout several times from ARDS. While the food is excellent the staff is extremely incompetent and rude and it gets worse every time. Last time I wanted to do a carry out I called and was asked if I could hold. I said yes....big mistake. I was on hold for over 15 minutes and I could here the staff socializing during this time. I called back but the phone was busy as I was still technically on hold. When I finally got through I got their voicemail. Needless to say I did not want to leave a message as I was pretty sure they wouldn't receive it. Bottom line: great seafood and the worst service I have ever had. I seriously doubt I will go back. If one doesn't care about the service then I would recommend the food. read more

The way the sign reads I always thought this was seafood market only and didn't know they had prepared meals. I have now had the Loaded Tackle Box three times. The shrimp are large and tender. The sausage is nicely seasoned. The potatoes are throughly cooked. For the amount of food you get the price is very reasonable. I am looking forward to exploring other items on the menu. read more

Their gumbo is excellent - but look out - it may be old!!! I just bought $50 worth of gumbo. I told the salesperson I would be freezing the gumbo to eat Christmas day. When we got home with the gumbo we realized that half of the gumbo was already five days old. I called and asked if I could return the old gumbo and they said "bring it back". When I got there, they told me they could not take back the gumbo because it had been "out of their possession" and it was not considered "out of date". They told me they do not discard any gumbo unless it's at least a week old. I wonder if this is company policy for all their other seafood. Go with your gut - we won't be back. read more

We were looking for a mom and pop seafood restaurant on Yelp and came across Ards. After reading all of the reviews we decided to try them. We arrived at 5:30 and didn't realize that they close at 6 until the employee acted like he was angry because we ordered food and he flipped the open sign off. We we handed our food in Togo boxes at 5:50 and my husband said we will be out by 6. It was the most awkward feeling eating there knowing that these young men did not want our business much less appreciate it. We both got the fried shrimp baskets and they were eatable but not good. We will be eating snacks later that's for sure. We will not return due to unfriendly un appreciative employees and bland food. read more

From Birmingham and been working out of town in Mobile Alabama had great seafood down there and now I have had great seafood here in Decatur. When I opened up my box of food I was a little disappointed but I realized there was more food in there then what I thought. The flavor was great plenty of shrimp and the fries were fantastic with a little crunch on them. Might try the normal hush puppies instead of the jalapeño hush puppies next time. We came here twice for dinner. Both times I had the broiled shrimp and grilled salmon dinner. The dinner came with rice. The first time I had garlic seasoning on my salmon the second time I had Cajun seasoning. Both times the salmon was delicious. I also loved the shrimp. The cost each time for my meal was $14, not including drinks. It does take 20 minutes to prepare this meal. My wife had the fried whitefish, shrimp, and french fries dinner each time she went to Ard's. The white fish and shrimp were delicious and the french fries were good. The cost of her meal was $10, not including drinks. The service is excellent and employees are friendly. I do recommend coming to Ard's for dinner, it is a very good place. read more

We get the steamer platter for four at least once a week. Steamed peel and eat shrimp, sliced smoked sausage, potatoes, and corn on the cob. It comes with cocktail sauce and cups of melted butter. We get ours plain, no seasoning, as we found most of the sprinkle seasonings they used too spicy. We love to get Ard's for dinner! read more
