I chose to shop at Zavotski's tonight and was horrified at what I witnessed by the owner/manager. Two extremely polite young boys, not more than 12 years old, were outside in the shopping complex fundraising for the youth group they were apart of. Despite the fact they were doing nothing wrong, the owner walked out and angrily confronted the boys who were clearly caught off guard. When they nervously showed him their credentials he scolded them and said if they didn't get out from in front of his store he would be calling the police and to get lost. What a disgusting sight to witness. These boys were nothing but polite to him even in the face of being ridiculed. Not only should the owner not have confronted them in such a mean, condescending way but he should never have started such a confrontation to begin with. My drill sergeants treated me with more respect than that. Bullying young children who were clearly not from any sort privilege, who are out there trying their hardest to raise funds deserve praise and encouragement, not to be treated like street dogs. Shame on you. This town supports it's youth including local shop owners. I won't be returning. read more

Every neighborhood should be so lucky to have a family owned grocery store like Zavotski's. They have all of the basics, but also a lot of high quality speciality items. Hot sauces, gluten free bread, and a ton of local products. The highlight of course is the deli counter and the meat counter. Everything is notably clean and fresh. The staff behind the counter are helpful and very friendly. You don't have to live in the neighborhood to be treated like a neighbor. Not too off the beaten path if you're already used to driving a bit for groceries. It's easily accessible from anywhere in west Toledo or the Old West End. The store is small, and doesn't carry everything but if you're looking for some fresh and beautiful meat, Zavotski Custom Meat & Deli comes highly recommended. read more

I've lived in this area for 3 years and finally checked this place out a few weeks ago. Not sure why I waited so long. This place is great, the staff is always super friendly and they always have great specials. I'd recommend trying their various house made sausages. The brats are particularly good. I like the frozen meat packs they sell. It's mainly just my wife and I and our 9 moth old and the frozen meat packs provide us with ~5 days worth of main course proteins and they're only ~30-40 per pack, usually they have $10 off or sometimes they have BOGO sales on them. Really good way to meal plan! The packs have a mix of meats from brats, stuffed pork chops, fajita meat and all sorts of other things. They also have pre-made frozen meatloaf and meatballs too. My wife really loved the Meatloaf and she normally doesn't like this sort of thing. She said "wow, this is way better than the ones I make". I've recommended Zavotski to everyone I know. It seems most people in Toledo talk about "House of Meats" but I've never once had a good experience there. I once bought Filet's from HOM that ended up being from a Milk cow, they were dark red, mushy/floppy and tough. Completely contradictory to what a Filet should be like. I would definitely recommend Zavotski over HOM any day. They're a local family too so you're supporting your community by checking them out. They also have a cold cuts deli and they make all sorts of dips as well. If you're planning a memorial day BBQ like I am, come here! read more

My parents live in the area, but I live out of state. Over the holiday, I discovered Zavotski and I am now a fan. A grew up eating Polish food as my mother is of Polish heritage and the items we first tried here (stuffed cabbage and pierogis) were awesome and as authentic as I can remember. The meat counter is extensive, as well as pre packaged food services that are home cooked and reasonably priced. There are a lot of Polish-food items (i.e., kapusta, soups, cukes, coffee cake and angel wings) but they also have more generic dishes as grab-and-go (i.e., pork roast, mac and cheese, mousse, etc...) Toledo - you are lucky to have such a delicious resource in the city. I can't wait to come back. read more

I love this place. It is very close to me, so I go here at least twice a week to buy fresh meat for our meals. They always have samples out which is really cool. The people are super nice and helpful. And the prices are pretty awesome for what you get. read more

Family owned and run, the staff is friendly. The the meat is good quality and the right color. Too many chain stores by meat that has been treated with carbon monoxide to make it bright red so it will look fresher longer. At Zavotski's, it's just fresh. The prices are affordable and they have s good selection. I rarely by meat anywhere else anymore. read more

This is a great little gem in West Toledo. The meat is fresh, the store clean and the staff attentive. The owners are friendly and knowledgeable and willing to assist. In addition to excellent meats, Zavotski also offers a full deli and small produce, dairy and grocery section. This place is a gem. Its small, but is packed with stuff. Somethings obviously are cheaper at Kroger, like condiments etc... I don't know why they bother selling them. But dude, the meat counter is where it's at. If you like brats (bratwurst)... try their brats... All of them. The bluberry brat will blow your mind. The Chicago brat is my favorite. This place has tons of stuff. They even do deer processing (I haven't used them for that... yet). Very cool to have in the neighborhood. This is something you'd expect to have to find in a much more "ethnic" Polish area like Parma (near Cleveland) or even near Lagrange St in Toledo. Anyways, if you like having flavored brats (or regular ones), fancy burgers, nice steaks, etc... go to Zavotski's. Spend your dime locally. You'll be rewarded. read more

This is a very nice little Polish market in Toledo. They have fresh meat behind the counter and very tasty smoked keilbasa. The meat specials were very good in the frozen case. A friend and I go to Zavotskis about once every two weeks. Usually quality products and high price, Last week we purchased 4 sirloin and one porterhouse. Upon opening the steaks before grill time we noticed a very unpleasant stench when we unwrapped the porterhouse. It was pretty bad rancid meat smell; the color was normal but the smell was horrendous. Both my friend and myself went to zavotskis to address the problem. We basically got told that we were wrong and that was the normal smell of raw meat; unacceptable. My friend work in food service and handles the majority of the inventory at his job, and some women insisted that this was normal. Raw meat smells like iron and fresh blood, not rotten fish dipped in shit. We asked to speak to a manager, they were out for the day, we left our number and were told that we would get a call, we have yet to hear from them (this was 4 days ago). Unacceptable. We have put up with the unreasonable prices for too long to deal with that kind of service/treatment. Good going Zavotski, you have lost numerous clientele, for many our friends and family look to both of us to buy meats and deli products. read more
