All the staff are friendly, helpful and if you even hint that you speak Darija, you'll be in for a hilarious bonding time. Decent hookah place on N Lamar, but the inside is very small and on a hot August night, not very well AC-ed (it was sweatastically hot the night I went). Knowledgeable staff who was able to make a very good shisha blend suggestion that we ended up loving! Good quality shisha and decent coals/hoses. The girl working did a great job switching out the coals and when it started pulling harsh, she did a nice job of getting it back to a nice, clean, soft pull. They also serve real moroccan tea. We come here a handful of times a year and always have a good time. What we like is that it's a very chill environment with no pretentious/hipster vibe. The staff is always friendly and willing to answer any questions. You BYOB and often people do (we do!). We've seen couples, group of friends play cards, and just casual hangouts. Of all the things I miss from my stint in Indiana, the sole "international" spot, a hookah lounge, is high on the list. So when Tasha B told me a tea place opened up right in our hood, I skipped, hopped, and jumped on it. The smell of apricot hookah permeated the air, along with music and the sound of an all-male cast of players throwing huge silver balls in a Moroccan version of Boce Ball. In fact, I was the only girl in the place. I got the sense that, by 9:30pm, it may have been passed my chaste-female bedtime, so to speak. But Amine, the kind owner, made us feel at home, bringing a tray of treats out to us on the handsome wooden deck. The delicate little dessert nibblets were scrumpticulous. See how I made up a word? The triangular baklava-like bits were my favorite, along with the mini coconut cookie. Amine also brought a small taste of their version of flan, and it was very palatable. The highlight: sweetened jasmine mint tea, prepared laboriously, and with delicate, delicious results. Though I'll ask for less sugar syrup next time, it was so delightful. They've been open for about a month, and once they get some Scrabble and chess boards in, I think the boy and I will make this a frequent nightcap. Zaytouna Lounge or (Olive Lounge) was opened officially last Saturday. I have lived in Austin for many years and I know many coffee-shops in Town (North, South, East, West); this place is number one because it offers variety of things: The inside is no smoking environment, nice LED TV to watch and listen to music, great Moroccan pastries, excellent fresh mint tea, better coffee than Starbucks, excellent smoothies with real fruits. The outside is smoking environment where you can enjoy variety of Hookah flavors or just smoke your own favorite cigarettes; there is also a huge screen for watching soccer games. The manager added outside the porch a "Petanque" field for people to play. The management is excellent and friendly. I really recommend Zaytouna to everyone and the prices are very reasonable Petanque is a form of boules where the goal is, while standing inside a starting circle with both feet on the ground, to throw metal balls as close as possible to a small wooden ball called piglet. The game is normally played on hard dirt, gravel, grass, or sand. Similar games are bocce and bowls. read more

After 20 mins, another customer sitting next to us told us that we had to go up to the counter and place the order, which we had no clue about. We got 2 hookahs and a mint tea. I've been consistently coming here for the last year and it reached its peak in early summer of 2016. Since the staff turned over it's been O.K to not great. I cannot in good conscious leave my original review to be my official opinion. All of a sudden getting new coals is like pulling teeth, they're always recycling old small ones from other bowls and the bowls themselves have shrunk. Hookahs are clearly. It being cleaned as they should be and flavors are transferring. The owner is obviously not interested in providing a REAL hookah experience, he's interested in spending as little as possible and milking this place for whatever he can until the doors finally close due to lack of business. I hate to be an a**hole about it but it's sad to see this place go down the toilet. Stars are for the nice guy working and then nice weather we've had :). Update**** 12/30/17 New ownership has made a great difference. Service is pretty good now. No skimping on coals. Met the new owner and he seems interested in his guests experience. I purchased a groupon for 50% off their products and took the little drive up north - but i promise you - the distance is worth it - the tea was phenomenal and very reasonably priced, the hookah tasted delicious with very fine quality shisha, and the service.... was by far the most memorable aspect of my experience, Amin, the owner of the lounge, was welcoming, entertaining, and catered to all of our needs. This place is more than meets the eye. At first when we pulled up, we were a bit skeptical in how this place would turn out. It's extremely modest, you wouldn't have seen it without the intention of looking for it in the first place. Right when we walked in, I took it as a cafe that just happens to have hookahs, which it basically is. The interior is very quaint and humble, nice atmosphere for a cafe. The patio has awesome space, it wraps around the building and even has a projector for music videos. Very comfortable and relaxing. Also, free wifi! Upon glancing at the menu, I was blown away at how cheap the happy hour price is (at least compared to other places)! We got two hookahs, grape and lemon-mint/peach. We also got a pot of delicious Moroccan mint tea. It was so good we got another pot and upgraded to an XL! Amine, the kind owner, took about ten or fifteen minutes to prepare our hookahs, Again, we were skeptical at first due to the small menu, small space, and seeing a KM hookah with a stock Mya hose attached to it, but instantaneously all our doubts were washed away. Very first inhale, smoke instantly filled the base and a huge cloud of smoke came out of my boyfriend's mouth. Holy. Crap. The bowl packed a punch. It started off harsh but after five minutes of smoking, it never got harsh again. Awesome. Amine definitely knows what he's doing. He was very kind, checking on and chatting with us every so often, and even ran out into the rain to grab us more coals when we needed them. The flavors lasted longer than we had ever expected, we sat out on the patio for three and a half hours smoking, sipping tea, and enjoying the rain. This place will definitely be our go-to spot to enjoy hookah and relax. I only wish it opens earlier so that we could stay longer. read more

Really loved this place. At first it was a bit odd because it's kind of in a deserted area and looks like a house. It's a very chill area. The hookah was a good decent price at $12 and the medium tea pot is $5. We had ordered some tea and it took long to get to the table so we let one of the men who worked there know. He immediately brought us a large tea pot and a flan cake for the wait. He was very accommodating and offered great customer service. The tea was the best tea I have ever tasted. Found this hookah place with some friends and decided to go because of the wonderful Yelp ratings, of course! Also, If you check in on yelp, you get a free small tea. So we arrived, ordered jasmine & honey hookah and a large Moroccan tea (they just subtracted the price of the small tea for us). We grabbed a board game (scrabble) and sat at a little table near the back door. This place is really cute! It has a back porch if you want to sit outside, several tables inside and some couches. So- we got the tea first and it was fkn yummy!! We actually ended up ordering another tea during the time we were there! It was served warm and tasted just sweet enough with a hint of mint! Flavors with any mint/spearmint involved is distributed at the perfect ratio to allow other flavors to excel (get the slice of heaven). Okay, no. First of all, they only have ONE starbuzz flavor. Second, this place needs better ventilation, because it smells like burning coals, like the toxic, acidic smell. The hookah itself is pretty bad and the hoses tasted nasty. Probably one of the worst hookah bars I've ever been to (and I've been to some very horrible places in San Francisco). By far the best hookah lounge in North Austin everything is always clean and fresh. The service can be a little slow sometimes but that's because it takes the coconaras a long time to light up. My hookah is always great and they make it right in front of you so there is no back room shady business crap. shisha is always fresh and never re used. My friends and I are regulars here because we love the service and the hookah! Their Moroccan mint tea is great and their staff always has fun and creative recommendations for sesha flavors if you don't know what you want. They have recently been undergoing a change in staff but it hasn't changed the quality of service which is great. The manager/owner is often seen there and he is always warm and helpful. Even when I don't smoke or when our friends who don't smoke join us when we come here, we still have fun playing board games and watching whatever they have playing on Netflix. This is the worst hookah place ever. The customer service was the worst experience. The server was rude. The people running the place should hire someone with less anger management issues. Apart from trying to overcharge over the existing prices, the waiter used the words 'motherfu***er' and 'fu** off' Under no circumstances should someone running a customer oriented business use such language. Let me start by saying that the location, hookah and mint tea is excellent! No complains in the actual product. Hookah was clean, tea was magnificent. My issue is with the owner. My husband and I came in because of the reviews (and the raving reviews for the mint tea, it really is amazing) we also came because there is a Yelp offer for 25% off. So as we were ordering and paying we mentioned that we have this offer. The guy working wasn't really sure what to do when we mentioned we had the discount on Yelp, so he called the owner. He spoke to the owner for a solid 5 minutes, and I could tell the owner just wasn't happy about us using this discount and was chewing the poor guy out. The guy working apologized for the owners behavior, and handled the situation well. Eventually he gave us the discount and ran my card for 25% off. Then he says "the owner would like to speak to you" then puts my husband on the phone with the owner. The owner proceeded to fight us on how we got the discount, rambled on about how Yelp was screwing him out of money. My husband eventually said "Okay.. I'm going to give the phone back now...." And the guy still went on and on about Yelp. This is the reason I am giving only 1 star. I am a first time customer at this place, the Yelp discount (resulting in $5) really isn't something to lose business over, but we won't come back to this place again. While Zaytouna has hookah, it is really so much more than just a hookah lounge. It is a great place to meet up with friends for a "soft" happy hour when you'd prefer tea over cocktails. They have several board games and the interior is quite cozy. The patio is nice as well. Did you know it has a Pentanque court in the back? Quite possibly the only one in Austin. The service is warm and friendly, and the sweets are quite a treat. I'm very happy that this great meeting spot has opened up so close to my house. It is the perfect place to meet up with friends to catch up. We were greeted instantly upon entering, suggested what turned out to be a fantastic hookah combo (honey/jasmine), offered what turned out to be some of the best tea I've ever had, and they were all attentive to us the rest of the evening with refills, coals, and just general checking-in-on.
