I got the idea that Jason should have his own signature cocktail. I had the perfect name for it and a list of drinks he likes, but I'm no mixologist, so I needed help to pull this off. Sonya McKinney, the manager replied to my request saying she was all in. And boy was she! From her creative expertise, the "Liberty Risk" cocktail was born. Jason is a retired Navy fighter pilot with an ornery streak a mile wide. Whenever the aircraft carrier came into port, the crew was at liberty to enjoy time in town, unless of course, they'd done a mischief and found themselves on liberty risk, and thus restricted to the ship. Jason wasn't completely unfamiliar with liberty risk. "Liberty Risk" became the name of his boat, his most prized possession, making it also the perfect name for his signature cocktail. Sonya didn't just create an awesome cocktail, she hung a professionally made banner above the bar introducing the drink, wrote and laminated the backstory of the drink, and bought a special Navy veteran glass in which to present the drink, complete with real Navy wings that she attached to a golden cocktail skewer to garnish the drink! She also arranged for the musician who was playing that night to lead the whole bar in singing Happy Birthday to him. Thanks to Sonya, the whole experience was unparalleled and it's a special memory Jason and I will always cherish.

The two gentlemen working there were fantastic, Ryan and I'm kicking myself for forgetting other gentlemen. They were friendly, knowledgeable, and didn't just sell cigars, they sat down, had a smoke, and made me feel like part of the conversation. That kind of hospitality is hard to find these days. The lounge itself is excellent, with TVs to catch the game, comfortable seating, and an impressive humidor stocked with a wide variety of premium cigars. Their selection is top-notch. They even introduced me to a Volstead cigar, which I really enjoyed and probably wouldn't have tried otherwise. She was very short in her offerings and had a "you can take this or that" approach. She even laughed at me, or at least scoffed, as I asked what her closest option would be to my tobacco I brought in with me. I didn't feel welcome nor accommodated for my first ever visit in by her. My overall takeaway from her service and demeanor was "we don't have that, oh well". She didn't even offer for me to smell the offerings they DID have if I found something I might like instead I had to take it upon myself to open the jars and see if my visit could lead me to a purchase of something I enjoyed. I asked for a covering for the tip for my pipe and she was slightly more helpful but I had to ask and ask about how to apply it (once again, very short in her delivery and I'm a novice so would like to ask the professionals while I'm IN the store).
