Those gifts are then grouped together and assigned a number. Families are given a time and day to pick up their gifts. One can volunteer for a 4 hour shift where they will be introduced to a member of the family and given a sheet directing you to their gifts. You and a partner will then pick up their gifts, help the family member select a stocking or teddy bear and then help them to their car with the gifts. This volunteer event is very well organized, and the people are so grateful for the gifts. I highly recommend giving this volunteer opportunity a try. I started buying general gifts for 1 boy & 1 girl. Usually young adolescents that are hard to choose for. After a couple of years I decided to just buy bicycles. I remember being a kid & a brand new Christmas bike was amazing. I've been donating 2 bikes now for many years. 3 or 4 yrs ago I became aware of the senior program so I chose a man & a woman & buy things on their wish/needs lists. My kids are grown & I do not have grandchildren so I am dedicated to utilizing this great program to give to those less fortunate than myself. The Salvation Army does great things like this & I just wish they would advertise it more.

5 Stars for a quick and efficient drop-off of donated goods…read more This Goodwill donation center is conveniently located in the Mills50 area, near the Bumby / Colonial intersection. You pull up during their open hours and stop by the doors. Someone from the center comes out and fills a large basket with your donations. They seem to take all types of donations and apparently they sort them later because it was a super quick process. Quite literally, just a quick drop-off. Hopefully the proceeds from these goods will help keep people employed in their retail shops and donation centers. One thing I'll note is that it really is important to make sure that the clothes and goods you donate are clean and easy (and safe!) to sort through. I've heard terrible stories about the conditions of donations to Goodwill stations, so remember that people have to sort through your stuff. Only donate things that you think could sell because they are clean and very gently used. Besides that- happy de-cluttering and donating!

I was first drawn in because a friend who I had traveled with was excitedly identifying herbs and "weeds" in the wild as we drove across the country and back. She would point out excitedly that's Yarrow and tell me the medicinal qualities of the plant, she would point at a beautiful flower and tell me its edible and I'd bite into its bright orange petals to enjoy the spicy freshness. Our trip was filled with many moments such as those. Her passion and excitement seeped in and I too wanted to know these things. So I began my journey by taking the Roots of Herbalism Course. What a wonderful introduction to the world of herbalism!! I feel empowered to cultivate relationships with plants and be mindful and conscious of how I can use herbs and diet to maintain health and to use as a medicine when I feel myself out of alignment. The journey continues and I know that even though the classes I have taken are over there is still a community of herbalists willing to share their knowledge and give advise, or I can purchase their amazing herbal medicines. I also enjoy the community moon circles, a way to dance and drum out energies and intentions and connect with others. They host events, such as Herb Day that bring together many of the holistic organizations and businesses together, providing free classes and a wonderful variety in the marketplace for holistic goods. They also host the annual Florida Herbal Conference, which is a wonderful experience! Anyways, I highly recommend the school. The teachers are excellent, the community is supportive. What more could you ask for?!

I did a variety of things from sorting supplies, books, writing the name on items the teachers wanted, loading them items in the front & i ended the day with directing traffic for pick up. It was so refreshing and rewarding to give back. The staff was so friendly and welcoming. I def can't wait to come back and help with this amazing cause.
