We ordered the 'Treasure Chest', were given a buzzer and went outside to wait. Food was ready in under 10 mins and we decided to take away our food and walk over to the esplanade and sit in the park to enjoy our feast. The food was delicious - fish was super fresh and flaked away nicely. We also really enjoyed the prawn cutlets - nicely butterflied and cooked to perfection. I also really like the fact that the meal came with a proper side salad. All in all it was a lovely meal, and was definitely the highlight of today - after the disappointment of the festival.

Fourthchild is one of these great hang outs and boasts such a Melbourne-esque feel as soon as you walk through the doors. Upon entering it's the simple but gorgeous layout that strikes you first about this little joint. There are fabulous small details such as cakes being served in star shaped liners and orange juice in a jar with a paper straw that makes me love Fourthchild is the bees knees when it comes to delicious baked treats. My personal fave is the flourless mini chocolate cake, or I hear the carrot cake is also a winner. Their coffee is worth boasting about, with the Barista clearly capable and experienced on the coffee making front. It's my understanding that Fourthchild also does a mean breakfast/brunch on the weekends and is the only place I know who sells organic, iced earl grey tea. So swallow your pride, and make a trip to the Switch for some Fourthchild action. It will not disappoint. Bare in mind that it's a hit with the locals so best to get in early or late to avoid crowds.

At the time of this writing, it was $18 for adults, and kids under a certain age were free. It was basically the stuff you'd find at a good hotel breakfast bar, but it was all really fresh. They also pride themselves on using locally sourced ingredients as much as possible. We have also had lunch there, and I can vouch for some seriously delicious onion rings. And their ham is out of this world. At the risk of sounding a bit older than my years, I also appreciate the comfortable chairs with nice lumbar support which make it more enjoyable to sit back and finish your coffee while overlooking the birds at the sanctuary of Lake Apex right outside the windows. There's also a walking path around the lake which is a leisurely 15 minute walk. It's a nice stroll if you're not in a hurry. (Though depending on the time of the year, it can be a bit odourous as a result of all the birds that congregate there.) For my money, it's worth the drive every now and then to get a hearty meal at a reasonable price. *Edited to add that it is located inside the Lockyer Valley Cultural Centre building.
