It was a very sterile and minimalist establishment. After choosing the jewelry I wanted from their (if I'm being honest) modest selection of jewelry, and prior to any procedure, they had me fill out a form on a small kiosk with a tablet that included a legal waiver and a taking a photo of my drivers license. During the several minutes it took to complete the form, the gentleman had the jewelry undergo a sterilization process (couldn't have been more than 5 minutes). He then ushered me back to a room with a recumbent chair. After sitting down, I was asked the metaphorical "is this your final answer" question to verify that I was satisfied with what I wanted; following that, bam, right lobe. And bam left lobe. No pain at all. They were very knowledgeable and professional with regards to informing a newbie to piercings, such as myself, about aftercare and hygiene. I returned 6 months later to get the studs downsized and got a helix while I was there. Same experience as before with the exception of experiencing a noticeable pinch of pain, but I'm certain that's more or less because of the different location of the helix and the more rigid consistency of the cartilagenous flesh that had to be pierced. I scheduled an appointment for a nasal piercing. This was my first body piercing. I had emailed prior to making the appointment and Dan got back to me right away and made me feel really comfortable. When I arrived I was greeted pleasantly. The facility is very modern in décor with just the jewelry in display cases. When I was brought back to the room Dan instantly made me feel comfortable. He did an excellent job explaining step by step what to expect. After the piercing was completed he did a very thorough job of explaining after care and what to expect with the healing process. If someone is going to stick a needle into my skin over and over and permanently draw a design on my body, I better trust them to do it right and do it well. And I think that's the best thing I can say about Epic Tattoo and Body Piercing in Davenport. They do it right and they do it well. Tattoo artist - and I mean artist very literally - Aaron Schmidt is as good as they come. He cares about his work. He will take time to sit with you - as he's done twice with me - to come up with a completely original design that is exactly to your specifications. Besides that, he can also offer suggestions to make your tattoo look better. Additionally, he knows how to make you comfortable as he works. Let's get one thing straight - you get a tattoo, it's going to hurt a bit. And the couple tattoos Aaron has done on me have been fairly painful. But he knows that different people respond differently to it and adapts to make sure you're comfortable, whether it's by keeping you talking or just plowing through quickly to get it over with. Piercer/owner Dan Bruce makes sure his shop is clean and welcoming. While I've not had the pleasure of being pierced by him, he seems to know what he's doing and in watching him work, I've seen him take every precaution he possibly could. One con - sort of. They're a bit pricey. That said, I figure with tattoos and piercings, you pay for quality. And the quality here is great. Just went here for the first time two days ago for a lip piercing. I've never had any piercings done besides 3 in each ear and those were all done at the mall, so this was a big (pleasant) change. On the outside, it doesn't look like much but inside it's a really nice, comfortable atmosphere. I was helped by Dan immediately and he told me everything, and I mean everything, that's associated with my piercing. He kept me comfortable and relaxed the whole time which is definitely something I didn't expect from anywhere. It made the whole procedure a lot less painful and the most important part was that the place was clean, including the needles and jewelry used in piercing. I can't say anything about the tattoos as I haven't had the opportunity to have one done, but I can't wait to and I've already heard great things about the artist there. Also, I'd say the prices are just right. It was only $25 to get my lip pierced, which is a lot lower than the price at other places in the area that I was actually kind of scared to go to. I had my dieth pierced already and wanted the earring switched out to a cute heart instead of the hoop I had and I also wanted the top of my ear pierced with a hoop. Overall great experience! Dan pierced my rook and conch, and talked me through the whole process. He cleans everything in an autoclave right in front of you so you know everything is sanitary. The piercings were VERY reasonably priced, and Dan was knowledgable and friendly. I felt very comfortable throughout the entire experience, and the piercings turned out great! The place is filthy. They were very nice and thourough over the phone. BUT as and e.m.t. and former firefighter I do know the protocols of sanitation and sterilization. Epic was not clean. There wasnt even any soap in the public restroom. I NEVER ONCE seen them even attempt to put hand sanitizer on their hands let alone wash them. read more
