Tuesday Farmers market at Whole Foods... Came for the coffee beans, but couldn't leave without some Zena's hummus, tapenade, artichoke/jalapeño dip, something called "Prince Gabriel" and flat bread. They give you a huge free sample of everything all at once. It's almost a meal! Some say it's expensive and it might seem like that as when does one buy 4+ dips at one time? I don't. The prices seemed right on target for all the deliciousness. They have a buy 4 get one free deal. The jalapeño spicy hummus was my favorite followed by the tapenade. I'm making a Mediterranean salad wrap for dinner tonight. My daughter loved the Jalapeño/artichoke dip and the Prince Gabriel. She said the tzatziki was awesome too. My only 1 star ding is the ingredients are not reliably listed on the containers. One just says "love." That was pretty funny, but in a world where food sensitivities abound I need more info. I've learned to be responsible for my own health. I won't eat questionable items, but my daughter will. The staff were super friendly and pretty helpful. I purposely schedule all mine and my children's appointments on Wednesdays just so I can stop by the little farmers market at Kaiser - Riverside and get my serving of Zenas Kitchen's yummy food. They didn't have my favorite Jalapeño Cilantro this time, but that didn't stop me from grabbing 4 other amazing flavors of dips, salads, and spreads. And their pita bread never disappoints and is a must. Their food is still deliciously mind blowing just like my last previous visit. Gotta love consistency! Their service is top notch. We encountered this business while attending the Midtown Sacramento Farmer's market on Saturday. I love Middle Eastern Food and picked up some tubs of dips to try with my family at a gathering, after the person selling was so kind to sample so many sauces/dips on a piece of pita at the market. We got both types of pita available (zaatar and garlic cilantro ). The lady who gave us samples and sold us the stuff, was very kind and threw in another tub for free). She was so kind that she packed the tubs in a bag with ice, she offered to do that. So very kind of her! The Tzatziki and Prince Gabriel were my favorite, the Spicy Hummus was good as well. One of my goals for 2022 was to learn how to make my own hummus, but now that I've tried Zena's Kitchen's hummus, that goal might have to be postponed for a few more years. Instead, I'll be getting all of my hummus here from now on. The couple working the booth at the midtown farmer's market was super friendly. The lady basically made me a mini platter of samples of so many flavors that I could barely remember which was which. I loved them all, and obviously ended up making a purchase, and coming back for more. This is some of the best hummus I've ever tried. So far, I've brought home the Prince Gabriel, Spicy Pepper, Tzaziki Sauce, and Sun-Dried Tomato & Basil. They were all amazingly delicious. I personally love to use this hummus in salads, burrito/bowls, pita sandwiches, or as a dip for bell peppers, olives, and cucumbers. They were at the Capitol Farmers Market today. I have never seen their booth before and I know I wouldn't miss it! I love hummus!! The men working there were very friendly and gave me a couple samples to try. I bought the pita bread even though I normally hate pita bread because it was SOOO good with their hummus. The hummus was either buy one for $6 or buy two for $10. I bought two to save money, of course ;). I also couldn't decide which flavors I wanted because they all sounded SOOOO good. I ended up getting the Avocado Cilantro and Sun Dried Tomato & Basil. They came in 8 oz containers and were very fresh and delicious!! I had the opportunity to try a vegan Zena avocado/cilantro hummus wrap at their booth at the Mandarin Festival in Auburn. It was amazingly delicious. The pita bread was fresh and thick. The hummus was flavorful with many different flavors to choose. The wrap was piled with fresh cabbage, peppers, kalamata olives and spices that made my mouth want to dance. Anyone who thinks vegan food is bland and flavorless needs to try a Zena pita wrap. read more

As a kid I enjoyed eating the lowly chickpea mainly in roasted form as a snack to nibble while horseback riding. In the last few years, however, I have been eating the various preparations of hummus made by Zena foods, and I have to say that their Classic Hummus, which is the basic ingredient for all their flavored hummus (garlic, sun-dried tomato, cilantro, etc.), though seemingly simple, is a worthy staple for any gourmet, and unlike the various other flavors, though they are delicious, it goes with absolutely everything. For those of us who try for the most part to eat vegan, it is the ideal replacement for butter--so simple, yet so perfect. At breakfast, Classic thickly spread on toast is a great accompaniment to an omelet flavored with Zena's wonderfully spicy Harissa (don't use too much though); for a snack, try Classic on toasted pita bread with your favorite tea. Another treat I enjoy is quick frying sliced fruit in a little Harissa-spiced olive oil. My favorite is fresh persimmons, when they are in season, but it works fine with apples and other fruits as well. If you are lucky enough to live in the Sacramento area, you might also try your luck requesting a special order of Zena's Baklava: simply put, it's the best I have ever tasted; it is so good, each bite will make you swoon. (It's not vegan, but indulging taste buds now and then won't kill you.) All Zena's products are first-rate, and in the bargain they are extremely healthful as well. I only wish I lived closer to their home base, but in the meantime I am grateful that they show up most Saturdays at the Cabrillo Farmers Market in Aptos. read more
