Not what I was expecting but it was novel and refreshing. The "cheese" plate was excellent and I didn't miss the dairy. You wouldn't necessarily mistake it for the real deal but the fact that they're actually cultivating bacteria to mirror the natural processes of aging and fermentation is pretty amazing. Pastas we're fantastic, we had the carbonara and tagliatelle with ragu. I can't say I'd order my secondi again, but it doesn't appear to be on the current menu, and it is a matter of taste not quality. My dining partner loved her soy medallions as well as the cannolo served for dessert. As with everything in Sicily, value is incredible. We're talking €50 pp for a multi course, world class gourmet meal. I honestly would not be surprised to pay 4x in NYC or Chicago. If you're a vegan, this is probably worth the drive from anywhere in Sicily even without everything else Siracusa has to offer, and non-vegans won't be disappointed either.

We also got a vegan burrata that was delicious. That would have been enough for lunch, but we decided to try some pasta as well. Everything was absolutely excellent! Don't miss out on this one.

We noticed some of the tour members with whom we had been traveling, devouring several plates of tiramisu. They barely stopped eating to tell us how great the restaurant was. We stepped inside and saw ANOTHER party from our group. They said the menu was great but to be prepared to wait. We didn't have that experience and were seated quickly while our drinks order was taken right away along with a bottle of fizzy water. The proprietress sat down next to us to take our food order. We don't speak Italian, but she was kind and patient with us. We ordered from the fresh sheet as well as the main menu: Glass of Grillo, Punica Blond Ale Zucchini with burrata Egg toast with spinach and truffle oil Homemade pappardelle with radicchio, pear and Gorgonzola sauce. Everything was delicious and came out perfectly timed. Nothing was like something we had before. The zucchini like a soup than "antipasti" and the eggs were crusted in breadcrumbs and cheese, rather than coming out as mini omelettes. The pappardelle texture was springy and wonderful and there was a lovely contrast between the salty cheese, the bitter lettuce and the tender pears. Service was outstanding, the music (disco mix) was at a perfect level and there were even friendly dogs (the owners') respectfully greeting the guests. It was all perfect.

It was Christmas Eve and we weren't sure where to go, but La Vineria looked both available and charming. This is a small space with perhaps six tables, including one large one in the center of the dining room. Christmas lights and decorations made the space even more delightful. We were waited on by one of two sisters (mom is in the kitchen). She handed us three handwritten menus (Christmas, regular, and vegetarian) and two small notebooks which had the handwritten wine lists inside. I speak a little bit of Italian and believe this was helpful in establishing a friendly, respectful dialogue about what was available and what wasn't. We chatted about where we were from, where I learned Italian, etc. The food was simply amazing. Our party of six had three appetizers, six entrees, several bottles of wine and Prosecco, and three desserts. Shrimp, polenta, salmon, ravioli, beef fillet, pasta... We loved everything. Everything did not all come out at the same time but it was all cooked beautifully, and this is pretty standard in Italy. I highly recommend this restaurant for an authentic experience with real people who take extraordinary pride in what they do.
