Just off of the newly renovated Broadway Shopping Centre food court is this fast food Greek restaurant. It was a Thursday lunch rush and while the place certainly looked busy, it wasn't packed.
My partner and I looked over the menu at the entrance and was soon assisted by the host who quickly pointed us in the right direction - Pitas! We moved through to the counter and ordered our meals. As we were still finding our feet on what exactly to buy our server narrowed down our options by highlighting the house specials.
Ordered, paid, took a seat. Beside individual tables for couples and quintets there were also long tables down the middle which could be used by larger groups or anyone who didn't mind bunching up with randoms.
One of the first things I noticed were the waiters/waitresses all over the place. Hundreds of them. Okay, maybe not hundreds but still a significant amount. That, and how there was a steady stream of food leaving the kitchen.
The food came out quickly. First we received our Feta and Oregano chips ($9.5). While it was very tasty and the blend of warm feta strangely complemented the crunchy hot chips, I feel that the oregano would have added extra punch if it had been cooked onto the chips. It certainly was enough for two people to share.
Soon after our Pitas' arrived. The Zeus ($12.5) for myself and a Hermes ($11.5) for my partner. The Zeus was pleasant; filled with their signature lamb, Aegean slaw, smoked eggplant, onion and parsley in a thick soft wrap. However it really needed a sauce, a good garlic sauce, and it would have been-out-of-this-world great. The Hermes was delicious and not overly spicy despite the warning on the menu. Succulent chicken, chili infused tzatziki with Aegean slaw, golden pepper salsa, parsley and fresh chili in a thick soft wrap. A sure fire winner.
This place was good, service was quick and the staff were polite and helpful. The entire meal was just over $40 for two pitas', two soft drinks, and a chips to share. I'm still a bit confused about the place, it hung somewhere between fast food restaurant and regular restaurant. If it was a fast food restaurant then it was quite expensive.
The only thing which really jarred me was the way our knives and forks were given to us. After ordering we were given a white bucket which had our table number and our cutlery in it. The cutlery was placed head first into the bucket and upon looking inside we saw that the heads of our forks and knives had been resting in dust and dirt... gross. read more
