If I could give less than 1 star I would!! It was my 1st and LAST time seeing Dr. Fridel. Based on my experience, she is a Terrible Terrible Terrible Dr!! She was RUDE, Cold & Dismissive!! I had a list of concerns, NONE of which she was interested in addressing or helping me to find solutions! I felt very uncomfortable, she made no effort to review my records and was confrontational at certain points. It seems many Dr.'s are leaving Weill Cornell for Private Practice, which is out of pocket. Based on seeing Dr. Fridel, I would pay any amount of money to see a more qualified and compassionate Doctor, especially when it comes to treating a woman's health- I would not recommend this provider! read more

I really love Dr Friedel and Dr. Pena, and their office staff. During my first pregnancy, they were supportive, listened to my concerns, were available by phone for any other questions I had, got test results back to me immediately, and they even advocated for me at the diagnostic center who does prenatal tests regarding insurance issues that came up (and actually "fixed" the issues!). The doctors themselves are very knowledgeable, professional, and warm. Best of all: when I had to be induced a few weeks early, I thought "oh no, c-section" but the doctors and nurses at NY Downtown did everything they could to prevent that and lo and behold our daughter was born naturally. I think anywhere else in the tri-state area they would've given up. We've since moved out of the city, but I have decided that because it's so hard to find a great practice with a wonderful, caring staff, I'm sticking with them! I would recommend these doctors to any of my friends and family. read more

Dr Fridel is warm, caring, and knowledgeable. She is also extremely personable and makes you feel comfortable, which is really a plus, given that you're sitting on that cold exam table with your feet in stirrups. She answers all questions patiently and even offered bonus advice on minor issues. The only downside was that someone with a later appointment showed up literally 5 seconds before me, and the receptionist took her inside before me, making me wait an extra 20 minutes. Dr Fridel did acknowledge this and apologize for her staff, but I guess rude/inconsiderate receptionists usually come with the package (since it's part of the hospital she belongs to), and I don't take it as a reflection on the doctor. Overall, a highly competent and friendly doctor that I'm glad to have! read more

Went to Dr. Fridel for the very first time today and I have never been happier with any Doctor. Best GYN ever and I love her already. She is so kind and thorough and really explains everything and answers your questions without ever making you feel dumb. I was seeing Dr. Fridel for several years (beginning around 2012). At first, she was very caring and I loved her nurse too. Since then, her office seems to have gotten busier and she isn't as compassionate as she used to be. She seems much more rushed when you see her. She used to have a really nice nurse (I can't remember her name), but now her nurses are really rude. She also dismissed concerns I had multiple times and would always jump to send me for expensive tests I didn't need. I would look elsewhere for someone more compassionate and understanding. Okay so it's with great disappointment that I give Dr. Fridel 2 stars - note, Readers, that this is not a reflection of her direct service (she's awesome - more on that later), this is a reflection of the really sh*tty service of her office. I've been trying to receive my test results from Dr. Fridel for 3 days now. I received a voicemail from Dr. Fridel on Monday and it's been a nightmare trying to get at least a note back to her asking her to give me a call back. I've called and been transferred to lines that just keep ringing and ringing - no one picking up. I've called and been put on hold only to get hung up on. Multiple times. It's ridiculous. I have no way of getting a hold of my doc outside of this out-of-date, broken system. A little ridiculous I think - call me crazy, but if my doc calls me, how the hell am I supposed to get back in touch with her with this system built to support her?? She's an awesome doc - sweet, attentive, direct, and takes her time. Her office is not good enough to support her and her patients' needs - they need an overhaul. Thank you Yelpers. I finally could find a good, attentive and professional Doctor with a heart. She is knowledgeable and personable, made the whole experience excellent. Talked statistics, impact of medicines, took the time to listen to what I had and ask questions. Most important for me and the reason I am taking the subway all the way to Manhattan when I have hospitals and doctors two blocks away from my place: their office actually works, so you don't feel like you are a number waiting for your ticket to jail or something in a crowded wait room and no respect for your time. Staff was cordial and responsive. Doctor did say they will be moving offices to Tribeca soon. read more

I was 2 months pregnant and 35 when I went to this doctor for the first time. She was very quiet and cold. Then I told her my concerns that I was socially drinking until recently because I did not know I was pregnant and she coldly jumped to respond that I could have an abortion if I was concerned. When I left the appt I learned its very common that women might drink before they find out they are pregnant and still have healthy babies. Dr Fridel has a terrible bedside manner. As some other patients told me in the waiting room, "she's ok." Nothing special. What's worse is that when I called to ask questions regarding my upcoming travel while still in the first trimester, her nurse Erin had an attitude and made it clear that she was bothered by the call. In response to my questioning, she said "didn't you ask that from the doctor" and I'm leaving for the day as soon as I'm done with this call. It's clear dr Fridel and her nurse Erin are just there for the paycheck. read more

Dr. Fridel, her nurses and all the staff have been nothing but wonderful, polite, kind and helpful... No one can be perfect %100 of the time so I don't think you should pay too much attention to the complainers. I have never waited more than 2 minutes in the waiting room. Receptionists all very kind and polite and prompt. Dr. Fridel is compassionate, thoroughly explains everything and has always made me feel so much more at ease through a rough time. She always asks if I have any questions or concerns and also goes beyond the norm to get me the best treatment possible. The nurses and also very kind and sweet and makes nerve-wracking dr visits so much easier! They go above and beyond any doctor's office I have ever been to and I feel very lucky to call her my doctor. Would recommend this Dr and this office to anyone. read more

When I came in for appointments with questions about how my pregnancy was going Dr. Fridel was impatient, rushed some answers and also dismissed other concerns without answering. I didn't feel cared for. When it came time to give birth she was also dismissive of my birth plan. I wanted natural childbirth unless medical complications dictated otherwise. There were no medical complications, but apparently after pushing for 45 minutes I wasn't giving birth fast enough and Dr. Fridel told me (without discussion or choice in the matter ) that she was going to give me Pitocin. I told her that was not what I wanted, but she insisted. I tried to stay strong and advocate for myself (which is difficult to do while you're in active labor) and after arguing, her best response to me was that she was going to give me 15 more minutes to push without the Pitocin, but if after 15 minutes I hadn't given birth, she would administer the drug. I was not OK with that and said so, but she didn't engage with me anymore. I don't think that's even leagal - to administer a drug without having medical necessity and without consent! Dr. Fridel also would not allow me to push in any position other than on my back, which is not what I wanted since it's the position that is most likely to cause a bad tear. She would not let me move into another position until my husband decided to chime in and advocate for me. Finally, while mocking me, she allowed me to turn on my side. As soon as I did turn on my side the pushing was easier and more successful. Within 2 pushes the head began to emerge and Dr. Fridel forced me back onto my back. I sustained a 3rd degree tear, which is fairly awful. I can't say for certain that I wouldn't have torn to that extreme had I not been pushing on my back the majority of the time, but I do wonder and strongly suspect that it wouldn't have been quite that bad if I'd been allowed to push in a more comfortable position and at a natural pace. Another thing worth mentioning is that Dr. Fridel had her smartphone pointed at my vagina for at least a few minutes while I was in the middle of pushing and couldn't speak. I'm upset my husband didn't say anything or even push her off to the side, but that's another issue. Dr. Fridel should never have pointed her smartphone at my vagina while I was pushing! It's beyond insensitive and unprofessional. I wouldn't recommend Dr. Fridel to anyone unless you'd like to feel belittled and bullied during what should be one of the most beautiful experiences of your life. read more

I went to Dr. Fridel for 3 years. For the two years of regular appts (at that time I was getting checked up on about every six months), she seemed helpful and caring and extremely efficient. In the third year her practice really seemed to pick up and she lost much of her caring demeanor. She seemed to not have time for patients that might not have her preferred insurance coverage. She also became extremely judgmental, telling me verbatim that my preference not to have children was simply "because I didn't know what it meant to be in love." Mind you, I am not a spring chicken, so this comment makes little sense in the scheme of things. The final straw came when she called me to report lab results of a biopsy when I hadn't been in her office for over 6 months. The results were not exactly good, and turned out to be for another patient entirely, though she tried covering up the error for a good twenty minutes on the phone saying that they'd just found a result from six months prior. The problem being, I hadn't had a biopsy six months prior. There is good coverage in NYC, there really is, don't settle for less than the best. read more

I've recently moved to NY and discovered I was pregnant a month ago. I needed an OB, but did not know anyone in the city who could recommend one. The previous review of Dr. Fridel peaked my interest (even though it was for her GYN services only), so I made my first appointment with her. And man am I glad I did!! She was VERY thorough and made me feel very comfortable. I was not actually planning my pregnancy, so I was a very bad girl during my first 6 weeks. She made me feel comfortable enough to admit to all the bad things I did, and I did not feel judged at all. Instead, she was very reassuring and understanding, which helped me release many of the guilty feelings I was having. Plus, she was gentle during the examinations... basically everything you are looking for in an OB! And to top it off, the nurse (I wish I remembered her name) was amazing! The coolest and nicest nurse I have ever met (sorry dad!). And the receptionist was also very helpful. If you need an OB in the downtown area, definitely visit the Women's Health Center at St. Vincent's hospital. So glad that I did!!! read more

Nothing says responsible medical practitioner like starting out with "well, it's a Friday, they run late" as to why your appointment started almost an hour late (when you were trying to be nice and didn't even saying anything about the late start), spending the bulk of the visit giving you unsolicited advice about how you have to get pregnant immediately (I'm 32), only sending your pharmacy a single birth control prescription without refills (because apparently she was serious about that pregnancy thing, whether you liked it or not), and then not having an after hours number to leave a message with to try to remedy the problem. Needless to say, I won't be returning. Awful. read more

I made an appointment with this Dr. based on her being a friend and colleague of my best friend's husband. they raved about how great she was. As a person, maybe, and she could be the best doctor ever. But I will never know. The office is horribly managed. I waited a month to get an appointment. I left my office at 9:30 to get downtown for a 10:30 appointment. I got there at 10:20. I was done filling out my first time patient paperwork by 10:30 easily. I waited. and waited. maybe too patiently. By 11:15 I finally asked if they would be taking me soon. Almost immediately someone called my name. (the receptionist seemed shocked that no one had seen me yet-even though I was sitting right within sight of their desk). So nurse brings me back, they tell me the doctor will be there soon. Well, I gave her until 11:45. I even heard at one point Dr. Fridel outside the door where I was and I heard her say the name of another patient and myself. Pretty sure that was the order as well that she was planning to see us. She had probably seen 10 patients before me since I had been waiting and clearly my time wasn't worth anything to their office. Well, 11:45 came and I got dressed, told the receptionist i was leaving. The kicker is, until I complained not ONE person ever acknowledged the fact that I had been waiting for so long. When I complained the receptionist asked if i'd still like to see her, that she would call her, but my blood pressure was so high by that point and i was so pissed I wouldn't have been comfortable talking to her about anything. I coulndn't play nice anymore. The screen saver on their office computers says something about respecting the patient. I think they need to follow their own mantra, because making a patient with a 10:30 appointment wait an hour and 15 minutes (and STILL not be seen) is not very respectful. I probably should have dropped the name of my best friend and would have gotten better service, but it shouldn't have to be like that. I am sure she is a great person and a great doctor as my friend says, But i lost 3 hours of my workday to not even be seen, I could have kept my doctor in NJ if I knew THAT was going to be the result of this visit. read more

My experience with her throughout the years, including pregnancy and delivery were always full of top care, great advice, warm smiles and best of all, she has the best bedside manner, bringing an ease and calmness all around. I was originally with another doctor from the same practice who was also great but after I started rotating between the doctors closer to my delivery, I scheduled my s-section with Fridel and it was the best decision ever made. Let's put it separately- Dr and everything else related to the visit. Pro: 1) Dr.Fridel is very warm and knowledgeable and I have to give her a lot of credit for her time management skills. I've never waited in the waiting room for more than 5-10 minutes and never waited for Dr in an exam room for more than 10 min. For comparison- my previous GYN's office average waiting time was around 1.5 hours. 2) Dr have been able to answer all my questions so far and doesn't seem to mind is I ask the same question more than once 3) They seem to have a comprehensive system of getting in touch with a Dr on duty in case of emergency. Thank G..d, I didnt need to use it, but it's important. 4) Office personnel are nice and look like humans Cons: 1) Once I tried to get my test results and it took me a week of time and five phone calls to get "everything is ok" response from a nurse. Apparently, not everyone has an access to medical records. It can be considered a good thing and bad thing. I would have preferred if someone would have called me and simply left a message "everything is ok"- it would save time for everyone. Overall, I would recommend Dr.Fridel and a good professional. read more

Amazing! Everything you could ever hope for in a doctor. She is incredibly warm, patient and very skilled. She answered all my questions, no matter how crazy and neurotic they may have seemed. What I also really appreciated about her was that she wasn't judgmental. I saw her for almost every visit during my pregnancy and she delivered my baby. Amazingly nice Dr!!!! went to her after having a really bad experience with another gynecologist a week prior. She gave me the answers to all my questions and was extremely caring and helpful. i wanted to do the tests that the previous gynecologist did, but she advised me not to do it, as i will be charged extra by my insurance. I have seen Dr. Fridel on February 24, 2015. My appointment was early in the morning. They do ask you to arrive 10-15 minutes before the appointment, which I did. There was no wait for me whatsoever. Once I checked in with the front desk, I was called by a nurse to the exam room. The nurse was friendly and personable. Shortly after the nurse was finished, Dr. Fridel came in. She was very caring, professional, and friendly. I felt very comfortable being examined by her. After the exam, the other nurse was taking my blood for the lab, and she was also friendly and professional. Overall, I am very impressed with all the staff, and especially Dr. Friedel. I had a very good experience in her office and I will definitely recommend this office, and Dr. Fridel in particular. 5 stars! No less. read more

Dr. Fridel was recommended to me by a dear friend and colleague, so I was excited about seeing her for my first prenatal appointment. Dr. Fridel was, in fact, friendly and explained things very clearly. We talked about my previous miscarriage and she was sensitive about that issue. Where I have concerns is when I asked her about the practice's birth philosophy. This is a standard question, but this question made Dr. Fridel very uncomfortable. Basically, her answer was, you can either do what I tell you, the trusted medical authority, or you can listen to your "friends" who are just psyching you out. I had never mentioned my "friends" or any outside source for my question, but she brought up "friends" a couple times as though I was saying that I had heard something from someone that was not medically sound. She never once asked me what I was looking for or how I felt about anything. I ended by saying that it was important to me that, unless there was a medical emergency, I would like to feel like I had a choice as to what interventions were used to move labor along. Her response was that, of course, I always have a choice but the implication was that wanting to be a part of that decision was uncool. I am looking for something different in a medical professional. I am not opposed to interventions or any kind of medical advice, but any doctor who gets defensive when I ask questions gives me great pause. I will seek prenatal and gynecological care elsewhere. read more

Dr. Fridel is by far my favorite doctor! She's extremely nice and very very patient, not to mention extremely thorough in all her explanations. You can give her a call if you have any questions about any results and she'll return your phone call within' a few hours (not too many doctors do that). I did not have the chance to meet Dr. Fridel. People should seriously check the service their customers/patients receive from their support personnel. Most people don't raise a stink, or cause a scene. They just leave and tell everyone they know about their bad experience. Based on the online reviews, I called to book an appointment to see if I would like Dr. Fridel to be my new OB/GYN. I distinctly told the person that answered the phone that I had just moved back and needed a new doctor. I also said that I would have to squeeze in an appointment during the work day. Their only concern at that time was to check my insurance. When I arrived, I was expecting a doctor's office, what I saw was a typical View, worn out magazines. I also noticed there were quite a few patients waiting for an office that only has 2? doctors. I waited 25 minutes. A nurse came out and called my name, and disappeared as I walked over to the desk. Not seeing anyone except the receptionist, I let her know my name was called. She laughed at me and said "follow the nurse". There was no nurse, so I took my chances and walked into the back office area. She called out to me (annoyed), and I found her in a room. Without looking at me she started asking me personal questions very quickly - age, social, height, etc. Then she tells me to hop up on the patient's chair so she can get my blood pressure. I start hoping the doctor is friendlier. As she's putting the cuff on, she starts to explain that the doctor will come in, talk to me briefly, and then I can change. I ask "change for what"? She looks at me like I'm stupid and says "aren't you getting a pap?". I was surprised and said " I just called for a first meeting, I didn't know I was getting a pap today". She starts looking at me like I'm a talking donkey and exaggerates her confusion with me. She proceeds to tell me that every first patient should expect a complete annual exam including a pap smear on the first visit. She tells me the only way I can book an appointment just to talk to the doctor is if I have a specific current problem and need to ask her questions about it. I ask "so, you can't just get a consultation". Again she looks at me like I'm crazy and says "well...you....could...get....a....consult.....she....can't....force....you....to....have.....a.....pap...." By now she's looking at me like I'm dangerous or something. I say "so you've never heard of anyone getting a consultation and booking a pap later". She flat out says "no". I ask her how much today's visit would be if I just had a consult and booked a pap later, reminding her that I had only planned to squeeze in an appointment (1 hour max and I've already waited almost half an hour just to be seen) and did not intend to stay for a full exam today. She tells me she has no idea how much a consultation would cost, I elect to leave. She asks if I will be calling back later to book my pap. I say I don't think I will. As I'm leaving I realize they have all my info and may charge me. I ask her how much today will cost me. Again she gives me her "crazy lady" look and tells me "well...nothing...because the doctor...hasn't....seeeeeen....you..." As I walk out, I see someone in a lab coat gabbing with the receptionist. Despite the fact that I just went back and came out 5 minutes later only to go straight to the elevator, no one acknowledges me. As the elevator doors close, the "freaked out" nurse comes out and says to the woman in the lab coat "Doctor....you're next...paaaaaaatient...." while she eyes me and waits for the doors to close before she continues talking about me. Ok, if you don't do consultations..surely you have heard of them? And what's with the rudeness and trying to make people think they are crazy because YOU can't answer their questions? Dr. Fridel may be awesome, but her staff has no manners. 1 star for long wait time, facilities, mis-information at time of booking, and cold-as-ice nurse. I'll be looking for a friendly, clean, modern office with professional staff that can answer questions and make you feel comfortable taking off your clothes. read more

I wish I could give NO stars. First pregnancy, my experience with Dr Friedel and her RUDE staff was abysmal. After seeing her for months, she still couldn't even make sure that she knows my name (I'm not suggesting she learns all her patients' names but she could at least have a quick look at my file and NAME prior to seeing me- the restaurants I am accustomed to go to, remember my name, she sees my vagina regularly and she can't look into my file 5 seconds to know what's my name?!). And this is nothing compared to the constant little information she came with. As a first time pregnant woman, I intend to make informed decisions about all recommendations she is making but with her and her staff, it was nearly impossible. I had to go home first, do my research thoroughly and then make my decision based on what options she was giving me. I don't mind doing my own research but I do think it's her role to make sure her patients are properly informed before pressing them to make any decisions. Is it too much to ask? Of course, the appointments never took more than 8 minutes MAX- and I am not exaggerating. I understand she's busy- we ALL are but how can you possibly understand anything about a patient in 8 minutes?! I never saw the inside of her office, wondered if she actually had one and she always only came in and left. I felt like cattle in a factory. In 5 months of seeing her- we never had ANY discussions about how I was planing to deliver. There was NO dietary information: nothing. Each time, I had blood analyses or else, she would always press me to check the results online instead of coming to the center- oh yea, like I understand the medical jargon! I'm not a doctor, nor is my husband, and this is why I am seeing one. Now, her staff: they were all passive-aggressive to me and my husband. I am the type of person who likes to understand things before jumping into it but they deemed it not necessary for me to understand anything and once, blow my husband off in such a condescending manner that we had to step up and check them out on who's the patient here! Finally, it was so bad, poor follow up, no knowledge of your file and rudeness that at 5 months I decided to end it there. Imagine, if one makes such a drastic decision halfway through the pregnancy, it means something must be wrong. When I switched to Dr. Rhee, the first appointment was in her office, discussing my record, trying to get to know my husband and I, our choices of how to give birth and information about how to eat because she was alarmed by my quick weight gain. I could finally breathe, thinking, maybe here, I won't be treated like a rabbit giving birth. Now I see others seemed to have or had had good experience with her and her staff, but I had to share my own to balance it all. Having a baby is an important event in a person's life and considering how much we pay for our insurance, we are entitled to better care and informed services. Hope this helps. read more

I, like other reviewers here, have never had a better Gyno than Dr. Fridel. Today was my first time seeing her. Her staff was friendly, funny and explained everything the Dr. was going to do on this visit. I had minimal wait time, and the rooms were very clean. Dr. Fridel spent at least a half an hour with me answering my questions and making me feel at ease before my examination. She is gently and walks you through everything she is doing. Her bedside manner is fabulous as well! She gave me my prescription right away and had my follow up appt scheduled right away. I spent 45 minutes there, and they were well spent! I will never go anywhere else! read more

Dr. Fridel and her nurses, Maria and Shannon, are AMAZING! I am seeing her for my first pregnancy and although she is obviously busy, her entire staff has been extremely warm and caring throughout my first 29 weeks. I am unfortunately moving to Florida to deliver the baby and am disappointed that I am losing them as caregivers. Maria and Shannon have both gone out of their ways for my husband and I numerous times. If you are looking for a really intimate relationship with your doctor, maybe Dr. Fridel isn't for you. But I was not. She is willing to answer any questions you may have, but again, she is a busy woman and may not be able to spend an hour with you for every appointment. In regards to previous reviews, I know that Dr. Fridel changed offices recently and that may account for some of the delays in returning phone calls, etc. However, this has not been my experience at all. The new office was a huge improvement from when she was at NY Downtown Hospital and I was in and out in 45 minutes. Dr. Fridel has been most helpful during my first pregnancy in Oct. 2012. She was recommended by Dr. Raymond Wong when his network of insurance providers changed. At the time, she had the best nurses - Maria & Shannon. I would recommend Dr. Fridel to others. The only complaint I have is navigating the phone system to make an appointment. Just to start off, I've never reviewed anything on here before (or any doctors generally), but I did feel that the experience I had warranted a review. Of course, I realize that this may have been an "off" day, but this is how I was treated. Unfortunately, in direct contrast to most of the reviews below, I had the worst experience with an OB/GYN that I've ever had when I met with Dr. Fridel. I have a couple complicated medical conditions that make exams extremely painful, physically and emotionally, and Dr. Fridel was the coldest medical professional I have ever dealt with. I informed her of these conditions and provided ample medical records before the exam. When you're crying and shaking on the table and she's speaking sternly to you about a condition you have no control over and shoving things inside of you, then turns her back on you for the rest of the conversation as you're crying and trying to pull yourself together, NEVER asking if you're alright, I would say it's a pretty bad appointment. She capped it off by leaving, coming back in with a couple of pamphlets for a specialized physical therapy I need, and saying "I don't think they take insurance, good luck." DO NOT go to this person if you have trouble with exams or if you have a trauma history. It tempted me to go all the way back to Boston to see any of my old doctors there. I will say, I found the waiting room and nurses to be pleasant. read more

One of the best doctors ever!!!, she delivered my son back in March 2009 and I couldn't be happier i have not seen her in years since she moved to a farther location but now I will definitely go back she takes her time with you and is very caring Its someone you can definitely build a relationship with.
