Dr Veca is a great doctor and so kind, but this is the worst medical office in NYC. It took them a month to let me know that the test I thought they had taken before I lost my baby was never taken and this compromised my next embryo transfer - and cost me thousands of dollars with my fertility clinic. They never call you back and it is literally impossible to get your medical records or tests. They act as if you are a problem, not a patient. It is really a shame because Dr Veca is amazing, but I changed doctors because if I am lucky enough to get pregnant again I would never ever go back to this office. read more

She is pleasant to be around even when you totally don't want to be there. Really, who does? She is smart, understanding, and straightforward. She gives excellent prenatal care. She delivered both of my boys and I'm so glad it was her. She has this lovely assistant named Julie. Is it weird to Yelp a gyno? I just think she's great and if I had to go through labor, I'm glad she was the one to assist. Her wait time can be long and her office isn't fancy, but she's worth it. read more

This review reflects my first experience dealing with the office staff and office manager during a stressful, immediate situation involving serious pain of unknown origin in a very delicate area of the body. I called and spoke with the receptionist, who put me on hold for a very long time. She appeared clueless when asked simple questions, mumbling and fumbling for an answer. Example: When is the office closing today." Her response, was no response, other than hesitation and mumbling. Also when asked "Is the office manager in, I'd like to talk to her." She replied, "She's in and out." A vague and unhelpful answer. When I became more assertive, she put me on a long hold again, then returned and said she's trying to find her, and proceeded to put me on a long hold for the third time. Finally, she connected me to the office manager, Cynthia McClaren. I explained the urgency and seriousness of my situation, in detail. Ms. McLaren was robotic and repetitive in her responses. She indicated I would have to wait approximately a month and a half (sometime in February) before I could see Dr. Veca. She indicated since I was seeing Dr. Veca for the first time, I had to wait that long even if it was critical I was seen right away. When I practically begged her to be given an emergency appointment, she became cold, inflexible, compassionless, callus, rude, remote, uncaring, and patronizing. She tried to foist me off to a doctor in their group with much less experience than Dr. Veca. I stressed the necessity of a very experienced doctor since this was a special circumstance and not just a routine appointment. The office manager, Ms. Cynthia McClaren told me to go to emergency room. A more inappropriate appalling suggestion I could not contemplate. This demonstrated her complete disregard for my delicate circumstance. I needed to see a specialist, in privacy, not some resident doctor without the necessary training in a public area. Ms. McClaren also stated she doubted the seriousness of my situation and didn't believe or agree with me since I was a stranger. Outrageously, she was making medical decisions on behalf of the doctor, as if she, Ms. McClairin, held a medical degree. Why, after this kind of ill treatment, would anyone go see Dr. Josine Veca for critical care? Why would Dr. Veca choose to hire a clueless receptionist, and a patronizing, "can't think outside the box" insensitive, and disrespectful office manager? Why would she make an office rule regarding patients that would be detrimental to the patient's health? I think these questions speak volumes. read more

Once I am finally able to make an appointment I have no complaints what so ever. As someone who also works in a medical office, I am very understanding that it gets busy and whatnot. But there is NO REASON whatsoever that after several calls from last week till today that I have YET to get scheduled for an appointment. I speak to one person, they ask which doctor and if I have been there before, then they transfer me to another line..a dead line no recording no nothing for sometimes up to 20 mins. I have a job, I do the same thing the front desk at this office does. Every patient matters and should never go unnoticed. For over a week I have been calling to schedule my annual check up and I have gotten NOWHERE. Other than difficult scheduling I have nothing to complain about. Easy to get to..the doctor is nice (even though every year I go she keeps saying she does not remember me). She makes me very comfortable once I'm in the room. Like I said before, scheduling and the front desk manner is the reason for 3 stars. I do the same stuff so maybe that is why I have such high expectations. I shouldn't feel like I'm pulling teeth to get scheduled or inconveniencing them. read more

Dr. Veca is a great, great doctor but the office makes it impossible. You literally have to fight tooth and nail and advocate for yourself just to make an appmt or find out test results. I'm currently having a issue that needs care and attention and its being dragged out for so long that finding another dr will probably take less time than addressing my situation here. read more

I absolutely love Dr. Veca. She is very professional, friendly and reassuring. She will do her best to place you at ease but at the same time she's not patronizing. She gives it to you just like it is but will also let you know she be there with you every step of the way. I felt comfortable asking her any and everything. Dr. Veca always returns my calls. I was so blessed to have had her as my doctor when I was pregnant. I highly recommend her. For those of us who like our doctors smart, straight to the point and responsible. She's the one. read more

I really like Dr. Veca and found her to be very personable, professional, and knowledgeable. However, making an appointment with her office is beyond difficult. I called to reschedule a follow-up appointment and was placed on hold for over two hours, on two separate occasions. Even though I liked Dr. Veca, I ultimately ended up switching to a different practice, because dealing with her administrative staff was unreasonably time-consuming and tedious. read more

I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Veca. She is warm, compassionate, clear and concise in her interactions, and an incredible doctor. My pregnancy was high-risk, so Dr. Veca worked in conjunction with specialists I was seeing for a specific condition. The two offices shared information and updated each other frequently. Dr. Veca was always aware of any updates from my specialists prior to my arrival and always took time to address any concerns or questions that I had. She never made me feel rushed and she always brought a humanistic side to my appointments. Being a high risk pregnancy, I had my share of ups and downs, but she always made sure to end each appointment on a high note and positivity. This gesture may have been something natural for her, but it served a huge purpose in my pregnancy and I credit it to keeping my overall outlook positive and happy. My delivery itself did not go as planned. Just over three weeks prior to my due date, a sonogram revealed that my son had the umbilical cord wrapped three times around his neck. Since there was no possibility of him descending into my pelvis and there was a strong possibility of placental detachment and other issues, I needed an emergency c-section. Dr. Veca's warmth and calm approach made what could be a frightening situation as relaxed and happy as it could be. I will never forget how she held my hands during the epidural (the hospital had a policy of no partners in the room as the epidural is given) and comforted me as the seriousness of the situation first hit me. She soothed me and distracted me, and most importantly, she reassured me that she had everything under control and that I should not worry. I don't believe that many doctors would do this. She instinctively understood what I needed during this time and she took the time to make sure I had it. The procedure itself went seamlessly. As you can imagine, delivering a baby who has the cord around his neck three times would be more complicated than a typical c-section, but Dr. Veca made it seem routine with her professionalism and her abilities. The result: a healthy baby boy and an APGAR score of 9/9 despite being delivered over three weeks early! Again, I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Veca. She is wonderful! read more

Dr. Veca is amazing. She is straightforward and compassionate, always willing to answer questions and shows genuine interest in helping you have a healthy pregnancy and baby. She was fabulous during my first pregnancy and delivery, and was the kind of tough-love coach I needed to vaginally deliver a healthy baby girl after a long induction and labor process. If you want a doctor that's going to coddle you, don't go to Veca. But if you want someone confident, competent, and supportive, this is the OB for you. As stated on other reviews, the office at NY Methodist can have long wait times - if you can see her in the mornings, you'll be seen quickly. I have no problems with the office staff, and by the end of my pregnancy, they were all greeting me like we were old friends. Her nurses are great too - gentle, professional, and kind. I loved working with Dr. Veca, and will definitely make her my OB/GYN for as long as I can. read more

I had a terrible experience with Dr. Veca. During my first appointment she answered patiently to all my questions and she said that since she was very busy I would have to consider Julie, her assistant, my best friend and speak to her every time i had any questions or doubts. Julie was also very busy and the only time I needed to talk to her after the first visit I had to call many times before I was able to speak to her (she did not return my calls). The office personnel is in general very unhelpful, unwilling to assist you and often rude over the phone. A few days after my first visit I went to the Methodist Hospital for my first ultrasound and the doctor informed us the the nuchal translucency test showed and abnormal result, far above the normal range. The genetic counselor scheduled us for the CVS and we went back the following day. The CVS results came in three sets: The first set the day following the test, the second test in about 10 days and the last set of results in 4 weeks. During these 4 weeks I was never able to speak with Dr. Veca, she never returned my calls. The genetic counselor at the Methodist confirmed that Dr. Veca received all test results but she never returned my calls. I was only able to talk to her during my regularly scheduled appointment between the second and third sets of results (which were all negative) and she asked me if I wanted to have an abortion. I asked why, considering the all the result until then were good, and she answered vaguely that many people did not want to take the chance. We then received the last set of result and were told by the genetic counselor that the baby had an unbalanced translocation with low chances of survival after birth, mental retardation and cardiac issues. The genetic counselor told us that she had spoken with Dr. Veca and that, even if we didn't have an appointment, she would see us but we had to wait a little bit. we were obviously devastated and waited in her office reception area for 1 hour and 1/2 before Julie, Dr. Veca's assistant, suggested that we came back in the afternoon. We came back at 2 pm and after waiting another hour an 1/2 we left upset and astonished. I would never go back to Dr. Veca. read more

Dr. Veca is extremely professional and all my encounters with her have been excellent. I have seen her throughout my first pregnancy and feel very comfortable with her. She answers all my questions and is generally a pleasant person to be around. The wait times can be long in the reception room, but it's worth it to be seeing such a great doctor. read more

Dr. Veca, was my OB-GYN Practitioner, and I cannot begin to explain the lack of courtesy and plain disrespect that I received from her. She is an unprofessional doctor who do not have the natural inclination to reach out to her patients in a timely manner. I left many messages to her concerning possible concerns with my pregnancy, through the secretaries which she did not respond to. And many times I called and was told that she was working and she did not take the time to come to the phone to see what was the concern. Her inhumane behavior have me totally disturbed. read more

I waited over a year to write this, just to give myself a chance to cool down and not post a dramatic, hormonal diatribe. I chose Dr Veca after she was highly recommended by the fertility clinic that helped me get pregnant. She was a great doctor throughout my pregnancy. Unfortunately, by the end, she turned out to be a big disappointment. She was out of town every weekend around my due date. When my daughter had to be delivered via c section in the wee hours on a Saturday morning, it was done by a very rude doctor whom I had never met. I understand that a lot of women end op with a different doctor for delivery, but if Dr Veca had known that she didn't like to work weekends, she could have let me know in advance and at least introduced me to some of her colleagues. Having a complete stranger thrust upon you at the most important and terrifying time in your life is nothing short of traumatic. I'm sure Dr Veca would have done a great job with my delivery, and I am sorry that she decided not to be there. read more
