This place's customer service is the worst I have ever received. They ruined my dress, never admit that they ruined it!! The messed up my dress, never admit they did the dry clean wrong. The dress is from B&W, I sent it to this store to dry clean it twice. The first time it came back fine, the second time, all white area on the dress was dyed by the black color!! The address is totally damaged! When I asked them to compensate me for the cost of the dress, they refused to admit that they did something wrong that caused the white area dyed by the black color. They said that is due to manufacture defect!!! Few months later, when I went back to the store asking to have the dress back, I was told that they have donated it to somewhere!! How could they donate my dress without letting me know!!!!!! They are not responsible for their error or mistake, do not take care their customer properly. No communication properly delivered to its customers. They are making money from customers but they do NOT care their customers!! Yes Yelp, this dry cleaner is A-OK. My family pretty much brings everything here, including sweaters, blouses, trousers, dresses and whatever else has a dry clean only label. I agree with other reviewers who say that their clothes don't really feel "clean" once they're dry-cleaned. I prefer to take heavy duty items like coats, blankets, comforters, and suits to a high-grade dry cleaner. This location also features a seamstress. I had the hem put back in a dress for about $6. It hasn't fallen out again, so I'm pleased. NB: This location is cash only! But there is an ATM on site. read more

They get points for having later hours and friendly staff. There is a guy there (Kevin, I think) who even remembers my name when I go there, which is very cool. They do except credit cards if your total is $10 or higher. but..... I liked this place at first. Now they have gotten sloppy. Recently I had at least 3 pairs of pants come back to me with a mildew type of smell on them. Also I have had the quality of some clothes, that had always been fine when dry cleaned at "regular" cleaners, shrink and/or fade. The 3 pairs of pants with the smell were so bad that I sprayed them with febreze and took them to a regular cleaners. I did not even bother to smell the rest of the clothes I had picked up along with those and just dumped them in a laundry bag and took them some place to get cleaned. The decrease in the quality of my clothes for the cheap cleaning costs is not worth it at the end of the day. I am going to just spend more and get my clothes cleaned by places that care more about quality vs. quantity. It was my fault for forgetting that you get what you pay for. I may try one of the other locations that people say might be better. read more

I will NEVER use Zips again and if you don't want your clothes ruined, please consider using a different cleaner. If 0 stars were an option, I'd pick that. I used the Columbia Zips for a number of years because it was convenient to my job, not because I was particularly impressed with their work. Sometimes things didn't come back clean, but they would re-clean them when I asked. But my most recent trip there was EXTREMELY unsatisfactory and will be my last. My favorite black sweater came back with multiple burn holes in it, which they tried to blame me for (because, right--I'd bother to have a sweater dry-cleaned that was already destroyed?). Only after five minutes of polite disagreement did the cashier offer to have a manager review the issue. I filled out a form and left that (and my ruined sweater) with them. After two weeks of hearing nothing, I started calling. No one ever answers the phone and their system does not allow callers to leave a message. I put in requests through the website and still heard nothing. I no longer work near this location and it's been difficult for me to get over there, hence my attempts to call/contact them online. I will get there eventually and regardless of the outcome, I will not change this rating. DO NOT GO THERE. read more

TLDR: Very disorganized and unprofessional. Didn't meet deadline. The workers look like they are dying of heat stroke. --- The workers in there look miserable. You can see the anguish in their faces when you walk in; makes me feel sorry for giving them work, even though I'm paying their company $15 per table cloth they are to clean. When you walk up to the counter, they made me feel as though I was robbing them of their life force by just being there. Typical minimum wage salary job at crappy working conditions sort of thing. Last Wednesday I dropped off about 10 table cloths that were to be used for a company event, as requested by my boss. They were supposed to be ready by this past Saturday. I called them on Saturday to confirm that it would be ready for me to pick them up Monday morning, since I wasn't able to pick them up that Saturday. Thy assured me it'd be it'd be ready by then, since it was supposed to be ready that Saturday. Monday morning I came to collect the linens, and they were missing 3 of them. They told me that they'd look for it and call me back in about 15 minutes. I called my boss who was angry about the situation, and asked me to get whatever we had and come back. After waiting around for 15 minutes with no call from them, I walked back in. After telling them I wanted to talk to the manager and get my refund, they suddenly found the missing cloths -- that they hadn't touched since it was dropped off. I figured I could rely on their multiple assurances that it'd be done, two days after the deadline. But not only did they drop the ball with deadline, they lied to me about it, and dropped the ball once again. 1/10 would never use this particular Zips again (or any other Zips if their quality standards seem to be so low). read more

The worst! Destroyed a designer suit, several expensive dress shirts and pants double and tripled crease! When I returned items to show the manager, he said they were training new people! WTH!!! Don't train them on customers clothes! They made NO attempt to correct the damage! It's better to go to a neighborhood cleaners, pay more and receive quality service! Dropped of a dress for alteration that went missing. I had to file a claim and waiting to hear back from claims department.

It has been over 6 months and I'm still trying to get them to address a damaged item claim. My King Size Vera Wang Comforter got damaged after taking it to them for cleaning a few times and the Customer service in resolving this claim has been terrible. Each time I call, it's a different manager or different ownership and no one has taken the responsibility for resolving this claim. I was eventually told by the newest management that because the item was damaged before they took over, they are unable to do anything about replacing or reimbursing me for the damaged item. I do plan to make a claim for this item through the small claims court just to send a message to Zips about taking responsibility for damaged items as they should. read more

I would not even give one star! Horrible!! I would stay away from them! I wish I read the reviews before I gone. All my couch pillow case covers got ruined the color is not faded and also two of them ripped. I have brought those same pillow cases a few times to other dry cleaners and I never had any issues. The lady who took my items said anything that gets damage we will fix (couch pillow covers are expensiveness! now i have to buy 4 new ones!!) All my sweaters have the little fuzz balls on them when they didn't have them before I brought them! I just think they did a horrible job! And I am upset my things are ruined. I have been a customer Zips Dry Cleaners for years in Elkridge,MD. Recently I was near the Zips in Columbia and decided to give them a try . I left my clothing there and when I came back to retrieve my items 5 pieces of my clothing were missing . They asked me to come back in couple of days. I went back and the representative stated she could not find my clothing and there was not anything else she could do but say she was " sorry". I was not offered to make a claim or anything. Excellent! Pay cash at time of drop off and you get your clothes in 24 hours. We are new to the area and tried three other dry cleaners prior and each one was terrible. One wrote my name on the inside of each item with permanent marker, the other scolded me for not undoing the buttons on our shirts and the last left creases and lines while pressing. Zips is fast, cheap and way. The staff is but helpful. You cannot beat the quality and price. read more

Check your clothes, I mean count every time you drop off and pick up. They gave me someone else's business shirt and lost three of my husband's shirts. They gave me a ten dollar credit after they lost the first two shirts. Offered another ten dollar credit while the "look" for the third, we will not go back. read more

Keep a description of the items, manufacturer, and price if you go to Columbia Zips. I had my receipt and was told on more than one visit/phone call that that order was put in under the previous owner. Since I have never before ever had a cleaner lose my clothes, I did not have all of the information. I was told it was likely that I had already picked my blouses up and it just was not recorded in the system. I am supposed to go into the store and go searching through clothes looking for my own. Unbelievable. How could anyone ever bring valued items to this Zips not knowing if they would be returned or not. And of course I was not reimbursed. WOW...what can I say. Well here is exactly what I will say. This cleaners ranks up there with one of the best customer service experiences I have ever had. Trust me I don't make that statement lightly. I have been in sales and ran my own business for over 25 years. I ran a very successful merchandising business for 11 years right here in Columbia. I currently reside in California and run a elite sales organization in Beverly Hills. I am back here for my eldest daughter's wedding. I share all of this to let you know I certainly know a thing or two about good, great service. I needed to have several shirts dry cleaned/pressed. And no other cleaners were able to accommodate me in such short notice. A friend recommended Zip Cleaners, not just anyone, but I am sure if they are like this particular location that bodes extremely well for this company. Kevin the manager had informed me he was short staffed and this was his busiest time of the week. He was not able to meet my turn around time of next day by noon. He saw the look of despair on my face and said I will get these shirts done for you if I have to do them myself. This was a WOW MOMENT. Kevin had no connection to me except I was a customer that was recommended by another loyal customer. Understanding I was in town for my daughters wedding he had to make a choice. Let me walk out the door probably never to see me again or go beyond, I mean way beyond and offer to do this. Here what I do know there are 2 other Zip locations that might have been better staffed and less busy but he chose to keep me right there all the way from California with an understanding I most likely would not be a regular customer. On the contraire he now has a customer for life...Kevin who was less than 24hrs ago was a complete stranger to me is now what I call a HERO in the world of customer service, customer friendly, just going beyond what most people would do. Oh and by the way my cellphone rang about several hours after I was in his cleaners and I answered it and it was Kevin letting me know my shirts were ready. I just happen to be shopping in the Columbia Mall and ran back over to get them. They weren't supposed to be ready until the next day after 1:00pm. I was skeptical about Zip's pricing, but decided to give them a few tries. I agree with other reviews who said they felt that their clothes never really came back "clean". On my last (finite) trip to this Zip location in Columbia, I brought in 3 items: pencil skirt, suit jacket, and shirt. Unfortunately, I was in a rush and brought home my dry cleaning without checking beforehand if my clothes were okay. In a nutshell: *suit jacket: okay *pencil skirt: The zipper came back broken (untracked). I did not give them my skirt in this condition. Clearly, they were at fault. I went back to the store the next day and the best they could do was offer to sew the zipper shut. Not good enough. *shirt: I had spilled a drink on this particular shirt and even discussed this with the cashier who had taken this garment. I even watched her "tape off" the drink stain (soda) to make sure my garment came back clean. The stain was still there. I complained to the cashier who told me I should have soaked my garment in pre-treatment. I showed her the tag on the shirt that said, "dry clean only". She offered to clean the shirt again. No thanks. They already damaged 2 of my garments. I asked for a refund, but the best they could offer was the manager's business card. They said next time I come in, I could get free dry cleaning. Please don't waist your time going to Zips in Columbia.. After my first try which I was totally dissatisfied because of the quality. The shirts and suit jacket ironing was horrible with multiple creases. Even 1 of the new shirts I gave them had a small stain. I gave them the benefit of doubt of the stain. But I still gave them another try. This time it was even worst. Unfortunately I couldn't go back to store to show them as we were leaving for an out of town wedding. So just had to iron them again. Wow. I am lost for words. I just stopped by ZIPS in Columbia - it's on my way from work to home, so it's the most convenient location. Let me first say I had a lot of clothes on me this time. I wasn't able to stop by for a long time. So this girl starts taking my clothes and then takes out a sticky roller and then starts rolling it on the first clothing item I gave her because according to her "they have to clean all the pet hair because allergic clients complain". And mind this, she did it to each and every item (except for white item cause you can't see the hair on it my pets are white LOL what a joke), and the whole time I had to stand there and watch. She didn't just take my clothes in a separate pile to do this later, I had to stand there and give her one item at a time once she was done with the previous one. It was the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen. The whole thing is obviously for show. Because if they really cared about allergies, they would know that people with pet allergies are really allergic to proteins in the pet's saliva, urine, and dander, NOT HAIR. Just moving the sticky roller around will not get my clothes hypoallergenic, duh! I have just talked to my husband and he will be taking our dry clean pile to a different company by his work. Horrible bad terrible! Zips was okay when it first opened but has declined significantly within the past year. They have scorched the buttons on several button down shirts and returned suiting dresses in the same condition as when I dropped them off. Last straw for me was a brand new cashmere sweater that came back two sizes smaller and felt like straw. I filed a claim which the employees were more than happy to help facilitate but received no reimbursement, no store credit, and a very rude email from Kevin (the manager) who insisted that the garment was cleaned...albeit not properly. The money you save on dry cleaning isn't worth it if you have to replace your clothes - stay away! read more

I guess you get what you pay for. I had a very similar experience as Jennifer S below. I came in last month with approximately 20 items, and when I got them back, 5 of them were the wrong items -- among the missing was my winter coat which I bought in France, and a silk top and trenchcoat from London. The manager refused to take responsibility -- instead he said it wasn't his fault that the person who accidentally picked up my clothes wasn't bringing them back -- and I still have not received my items. The policy is that if they don't find the clothes within a month, they will reimburse you. However, when I informed them of the replacement value for the items, the manager implied that he might not be able to reimburse the full amount (and even insinuated that I was incorrectly overestimating the value). I would be very unhappy to have to take this to a small claims court, but it seems that the stubborn folks at ZIPS may not leave me any other choice. The thing I'm most upset about is that they have not taken any action to make this easier for us or compensate us for our trouble. We have had to make numerous trips and phone calls to urge them to find the clothes, and they just now (a month later) let us know that they may have a lead on one of the items. However, when I called in today to follow up and make sure it was the correct one, I was rudely cut off by the manager who told me "I called at the worst possible time" and he would call me back in ten minutes--which he never did. This is all obviously very unpleasant and we are very unhappy that they have not taken appropriate steps to deal with the situation. I would not recommend this place to anyone who remotely cares about their clothes. I am certainly willing to pay the extra $2 per item to go somewhere that can appropriately take care of its customers. read more

Went to drop off a box of donated prom gowns for cleaning for a charity event. The lady at the counter looked at the first dress and stated, we can't clean these because the sequins will fall off. I thought the purpose of a dry cleaners was to take items that cannot go into a traditional washer/dryer or require delicate cleaning. I WILL NEVER GO HERE AGAIN! I took some uniforms there to get cleaned and looking good for an inspection, but when I picked them up, they were just hanging off the hangers. I didn't think anything of it (they're speedy, maybe they don't take the time to button/zip on the hanger), so I took them home. When I tried hanging them up when I got home, however, ALL of the zippers were broken! Ok, you knew they were broken before you delivered them to me, why would you let me take them home? I called immediately, but the child on the phone told me I had to have been mistaken, so I asked for a manager. When she told me no, I demanded one. The manager (although very apologetic) told me to bring them in, so they could look at them. Her response upon reviewing the garments was "Yeah, that's what happens when you press these kinds of zippers." Ok, you're the professional, if you know that that is what happens then you press those types of zippers, either FIX THEM or DON'T PRESS THEM LIKE THAT! Come on! So I let them send them to a tailor to be repaired, and when I came back to pick them up, some idiot who works there had PRESSED THEM AGAIN! SHOCKER- THEY WERE BROKEN AGAIN! I had to send them out a second time to get repaired (which I only allowed because the manager assured me they wouldn't leave her sight). I finally got my stuff back 2 weeks later, and although they look good, I will NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER do business with Zips again. How do they offer such cheap and quick service? They don't waste time and money on training their employees and they have a bunch of teenagers with ZERO customer service skills. read more

When our corporate office moved to Columbia about a year ago, I was excited to see that there was a Zips nearby. I had personally never used them but my wife used the one in Laurel frequently and loved it so I thought it would be great to have a good cleaner near work. After a little over a year of using them, I would have to say that this is probably the worst dry cleaner that I have ever used. On the positive side, they are very speedy. If I drop my stuff off on the way to work, I can always pick it up on my way home. I love that. My clothes are always acceptably clean and starch isn't ever used, which is what I request so that is all great. This is where the positives end, however. The first negative is that there have been several instances where they can't take credit cards for whatever reason. I never have cash on me so this means that I have to come back another day. Minor inconvenience I guess, but still a hassle. The biggest issue that I have with this Zips is that they seem to enjoy either pulling the buttons off my shirts or chewing them up and leaving them melted/mangled. I'll usually drop off about 12-15 shirts at each visit and at least 2 or 3 of them are always either missing a button or have a button damaged. This isn't even the part that annoys me the most. When I bring the shirts back and point out the issue, the person checking in my stuff tags the area where the button used to be, indicates on the ticket that the button needs to be replaced and throws the shirts in the bag. Normally when I pick the shirts up, the button is still missing or damaged. They did NOTHING! One time a few weeks ago I brought in 7 shirts that all had button issues. I actually marked each trouble area with my own safety pins and explicitly showed the person at the counter where each one was and pointed out that some shirts had two safety pins. I swear to you that less than half of the issues were corrected. On some shirts, the safety pins were still there and the button was still missing. This past week I picked up my shirts and one of them had been in there twice to have the same button repaired. I was happy to find that it had finally been fixed but when I went to put on the shirt, I found that a different button was missing! I tell people at work about my experiences and they don't even believe me because it's so hard to believe that a business can be this incompetent. I'm fairly confident that they employ a litter of puppies to chew up the buttons on peoples shirts. This is the only thing that would make sense. Ya know what really sucks? There isn't a big selection of cleaners in the area to choose from so I keep going back to Zips because of the convenience. It's sort of like an abusive relationship that I just can't get out of. I'm not sure how much longer I'm willing to take the abuse though. Stay away, people. read more

I am utterly displeased with the service at this location. I brought in my futon covers in late February to be cleaned. I picked them up once they were completed, and when my daughter opened the bag, both covers smelled like dirty shoes. In the past when they completed the service, I never had a problem. After recognizing the covers smelled horribly, I went back to the location and they told me too much time had passed for me to submit a complaint at the store. I was instructed to submit a complaint to the Director of this Zips location (through zips' website) to which I never heard back. All I would like as retribution for this service is for them to re-clean these covers free of charge, otherwise I plan to never use a zips again. read more

If only a zero star was possible. They simply suck. They lose our stuff perpetually, give me garments belonging to other people, "in by 9, back by 5" is total crap. I dropped off two pair of pants and 3 dress shirts at 8:45am today and asked the gal if they would, for sure, be done tonight, she replied that they would be. I then got a call at 9:25 by another gal who wanted to let me know that the blanket I dropped off would need more time but the rest of my order would definitely be ready tonight, which was very nice and I already knew the blanket would take extra time. I called at 6:40 pm ( they close at 7:00 on Saturday) to make absolutely sure the garments would be ready for pick up before I drove there. The young lad on the phone said he couldn't guarantee it because they had a "busy day". I sat on hold for 15 minutes because he was "going to talk to a manager" but then he just never came back on the phone. Nice tactic. Put the customer on hold until you close. I called back four times to get a voice mail that said their box was full and unable to accept messages. My guess is that it's full of other angry customer's messages. Also an excellent tactic so that no one else can leave a message to tell them what they don't want to hear. Not worth the aggravation. Go elsewhere. It's definitely my last trip to Zips. read more

Our dry cleaners recently closed ( thanks to Kimco) and we looked for a new dry cleaner. Zips was close by so we tried it. One pair of pants that was part of a suit came back pressed flat across the face of the pants- rather than pressing a crease down the front. Who does that?! French cuffs are all wrinkled. I am looking as hard as i can to find information about dry cleaning doing this kind of damage. Find only customers unhappy with zips quality. DONT GO TO ZIPS. I recently moved to Columbia, MD after living in the Rockville area for most of my adult life. I always had great service and experiences at the Rockville ZIPS so I was excited that there was another location in Columbia. Needless to say, my first and probably only experience at the Columbia ZIPS was unacceptable. I received my clothes back and when I got home, I noticed I had a shirt missing. I went back the next day and told them this, gave them a description of the shirt, and they found it. Then, a few days later while getting dressed, I put on the sportscoat for my black suit and realized it was way too big. I looked inside at the tag and realized this was not my coat. I returned again to the Columbia ZIPS, gave them the jacket and told the manager, Kevin Kim that they lost my jacket. I gave him a description of the jacket and my phone number, but they have still have not found my jacket. Kevin was very nice, but didn't seem too remorseful that they lost my jacket. Worst service and attention to detail of any business establishment I have ever used. Poor workmanship on almost all suits and regular clothes. Constantly unable to put the original creases in trousers. Poor pressing and presentation...clumped together cloths... with dirt on them many times. Two times they did not dry clean my suit and put it back on the hanger to me. Lost garments several times and were nonchalant about it. They accept their failures for volume and speed and leave it to you for quality assurance. Any problem you have they will do a redo... because they know they do a sub-standard job. Redos usually get more poor performance. Management is a joke and I strongly recommend you do not use this business if you care about your clothes and presentation. read more
