If you're going to stop along I-90 for fast food, stick with the big name joints. The staff at Zip's was friendly and welcoming, but the food and the restaurant itself leaves much to be desired. I had the bacon burger that had a dry patty with a doughy and tasteless bun. Onion rings were good but the fries were cold. The booths and tables smell greasy, like they haven't been cleaned in years. Yes, I am biased here. I grew up with Zips in Spokane and CD'A. I like them for 3 reasons. 1. The Belly Buster. 2 Meat and Ham Burger. This burger joint had some pretty decent food. The country fried steak sandwich, fries, fried mushrooms, BLT were a surprise. Sometimes a restaurant is bad for other reasons. This restaurant was fairly disgusting. In its 50 years of existence they must not have even made $1000 in profit, because that would do wonders. The restrooms are gross, the seats torn, tables and trash cans broken. If someone from the Small Business Administration is reading this, please hook these guys up with a loan. It would do wonders for a place that many will skip due to appearances. A clean restaurant with bad food is a bad choice too, but it's surely possible to find middle ground. Well zips, is not the same place as I recall may years ago. If you on i-90, just stay, don't stop. We stopped a few days ago on our way home from a road trip. What a joke, let me start with the good. I can't think of anything.. now the bad, so the lady at the drive thru was short and rude. The bacon burger my child had was Chewy bacon, I think she could blow a bubble with it!. The dip cone that cost over $3 was handed to us in a cup with sauce on top, " sorry our ice cream machine is not working, here you go". We ordered a dip cone and we get a spoon to eat it. I prefer to support the small businesses rather than the big franchise burger places. Big fan of zips. But I must abandon my 3 stops a month at this location. For order to reviving my food was 20 mins. Well you would think the food would be great. No. Fries were cold. Burgers were good. But who like cold fries. More so after waiting so long for your order. Mentioned the long delay and the employee just slammed the window. No apology. I can't speak to the woman's bathroom. But the honey buckets at the vantage rest stop are often cleaner. This location is easy access off i90. Pit stop and a burger for travelers. Well the pit stop is the pits and the burger is not worth the wait or the subpar service from the employees. I was warned by a guy at our hotel that this place is not where I want to eat. But we thought it was easy to walk to and couldn't be that bad so we did. I wish I would've listened. Paid almost $20 for a burger, fry, soda and a milkshake. Then tried to charge $1.50 for every sauce packet you want. At least all of the fries in the building came free with my food. I love Zips, though this location is not up to the standards of the locations in Spokane. I have not had the bad experiences that others on here seem to have had, but this location is definitely in need of an update, a nicer staff overall, though not everyone is rude, and better overall cleanliness. This location also has a slightly different menu than the other Zips, though, there seems to be some variation between most of the location, this one doesn't have mozzarella sticks, and the sandwiches are similar, but different, like different bread, and slight variation of toppings, etc. The quality of the food was just fine, I had no issue with it whatsoever, everything was fresh, the two times I have been to this location. The fried mushrooms are pretty good here, and so are the burgers from what I've tried. My personal experience with this location is it gets a lot of tourist, and a lot of rude customers. I saw some people flip out at the staff while in the drive through, and were not waiting an unreasonable amount of time, the lady who waited on us at the window was very nice and diplomatic, but had had a very rough day, with people yelling at her. Now, clearly this place has issues, but in my experience, it was only slower than it should, about 30 minutes, the first time I came, though it was still quite busy, so it wasn't entirely unreasonable. I have not I seen anyone get yelled at by employees or orders forgotten or messed up. There are only two toilets in the woman's room, and one was broken and the other was occupied for that entire half hour, not their fault on that one, but I had to go to the bathroom at the gas station across the street. Those two things made me not like this location a whole lot, despite my otherwise decent experience. This place needs to have some renovations, especially in the bathroom, it also needs to probably have a new manager to whip things in to shape a bit, so things move a little faster, especially when it is busy. I cannot really recommend this location without reservations, even though the food is fine. First and last time I will ever walk into zips inRitzville ! Watching them handle the food without any gloves was nothing but disgusting! I watched all the workers do multiple unsanitary tasks and continue make make the food. Not once did anyone wash their hands or ware gloves! Even leave the building and going right back to handling food. If the food could only hold a finger print! See for yourself if you can get past all the flys in the building! We placed our order, pulled up to the window and paid also asking for tarter sauce (we had tator tots), pulled to the next window and was handed the order... it was missing the tarter sauce but she slammed the window too quick to say anything. So, we sat at the window PATIENTLY waiting for her to see us and come back.... multiple times the couple of gals working came to the window but did not acknowledge us. Finally they opened the window to give out another order and very rudely said "Did you need something?" My husband responded "Yeah, my tartor sauce please!" She came back to the window and proceed to hand it out very abruptly. When I tried to talk to her she SLAMMED the window and held her hand up saying "BYE". I was seriously shocked... told my husband to hang on a second... she came back to the window and said "YOU NEED TO LEAVE". I calmly told her, in a very not rude way, "I was simply going to let you know, whoever made my ice cream had bleach on her hands...My cup and spoon were wet with it and it was overpowering the smell/taste of the ice cream. Not complaining just thought you would want to know". She was clenching her jaw super hard and again slammed the window in our face walking away. We stopped here on our long drive to Montana. I looked at the menu thinking the prices were a little high. But being we were hungry and still had a ways to go before our next stop, I went with it. I originally wanted to get the Popcorn Shrimp, but the gal behind the counter said go with a burger. So ok I did! Shoulda kept with my original plan of the popcorn shrimp. Apparently they forgot to feed the cow that became my burger. It was the most anorexic looking slab of meat I've ever seen and looked as if it sat in the sun until it was shriveled and crispy. Take a tortilla and blacken it- there's your burger. Was at least hoping the fries would be good- but NOPE that didn't make it any better We left still hungry and should of just got food from the gas station. The parking lot was pretty full when we went in and like an ancient explorer I thought I have finally found a lost treasure that I'd have to share with the world (or greedily exploit for my own uses...either way :)). Older establishment but clean. At the recommendation of the girl taking our order we order the "Super Burger" combo. Hamburger was tasty it had shredded lettuce, tomato and thousand island dressing. French fries were crinkle cut and cooked to perfection. The do put pepper on the fries which I've never had before but it was good. If you're a fry sauce lover like I am you'll be happy to have that option to dunk your fries in. Huge pile of discarded sanitary items in plain view in each stall, toilet paper all over the floor and everything was grimy looking. I don't think they clean their bathrooms ever. Burgers were mediocre. I think this place has gotten away with lackluster because they were off the interstate and lacked competition. We travel to Spokane a few times a year and a trip to Zip's is a requirement. Its always tempting to stop at this one just outside of Spokane to help you make it the last span of miles into the city, but I would highly highly recommend you just wait till you hit Spokane. We have stopped here many times and the one thread that runs through all our visits is the wait. My god, the wait. Now, Zip's is definitely slower than your McDonalds type fast food. That is understood. But do you think a 20, 30, or more minute wait IN A DRIVE THROUGH is acceptable? If so, this is the place for you. Just bring along a book or make sure your phone battery is charged so you can read the entire Internet while you wait for your "fast food". One epic time, in fact, our second to last time, we waited nearly an hour. Why didn't we just leave? Well, we were stupid. And we had already paid. And we really did want Zip's. But we swore never ever again and we avoid this location for many years. Until New Years Eve 2015. It had been a long 6 hour drive. The kids were extremely cranky and restless. We'll just get some food, we said. There is no line. It could not possibly be a problem. And indeed, with no one in line the 15 minute wait was merely annoying not absurd. What tipped it though was how foul and disgusting the food was. My burger was ok, but the chicken strips were, I believe, rotten. They smelled vile, they tasted nasty. All 3 of us that got chicken strips took a nibble and didn't touch them again. My kids will eat day old McD's nuggets ok? They are not some picky epicure. These smelled so bad we had to stop before Spokane and throw them out. The fries were undercooked. Just a total waste of a lot of money. Nope, never ever again. Nuh uh. Their menu is designed so you think you're getting a combo meal, and then half way across the menu board is an insignificant statement that if you want the meal ( pathetic fries and small drink) your price doubles. These are the burgers I grew up on. And in a way, these are the burgers to which I compare all others. Not that they are the "best" burgers in the world but they are my "home base" burger. Not that Ritzville was my home base, close but not quite. This just happens to be the last Zip's I ate at. I like the bacon burger: burger, soft bun, shredded iceburg lettuce, tomato, bacon, some type of mayo that isn't like the kind you get at the store. They also have tons of other stuff on the menu. So, I'm driving along I-90 west towards Seattle and I'm hungry. I see a nice blue food sign and the only options are McDonald's, which is the next exit, and Zip's. Thinking. "I'm loathin' it" for McDonald's, I decide to venture towards Zip's. As it turns out, I wasn't impressed at all with their food. Their burgers looked like a McDonald's burger with less sauce to cover it up. The patty was as thin as a piece of paper. In addition, the fries were one of those cheap crappy fries found in grocery stores and for some reason were really soggy and was extremely bland, even with tons of salt added. It's a conventional hamburger place, but I think it lacks the quality required. Hopefully, I came at a bad time, since I was not impressed at all. Other people seem to enjoy the place, but mainly due to them growing up to the local chain. I came from a more urban area with more fast food options.
