Zog is awesome. How did people make friends before this?!! I just moved to Hoboken solo mish about 6 months ago with no family or friends anywhere close to NJ/NYC. Sad right?? Well,, don't feel too bad for me cause, I immediately hit it off with my new Kickball friends.. (Who turned out to be much more "athletic" at the bar than on the field). I figured I just got lucky cause those friends quickly became like my new family here... But since then, Ive joined Volleyball... Then the Social Sampler, then Soccer and Bowling... And as it turns out,,everyone is great! Its like Zog screens out all of the knuckleheads....so everyone is so cool and down to earth. Anyone who plays these sports know they can get as competitive as you want... But I consider myself to be more like a professional intramural athlete.. A guy who prefers a beer and friend over going to the gym so this was a perfect way for me to meet new people. I joined all fun leagues cause I just wanted to show off I still got a little left in the tank when needed.. Then hit the bar. Honestly, I think I got super lucky to meet sooo many good people in such a short amount of time... Thanks Zog for making a "new guy in town's" transition to this city so easy... This league doesn't hold a candle to NYC Social. NYC Social is fun and encourages collaboration amongst all of the teams. They have contests at the post-game bar meet ups for things like the most team spirit and social media love where you can win credits for future games or more importantly, a bar tab. They update their rain hotline instead of making you come to the field, only to cancel the game. They have a professional photographer that comes to the game to take action shots. Their refs are actually friendly. They hold games at a reasonable hour and not 10:00 at night. They don't allow bunting. Most importantly, their fields are not in the middle of crime ridden areas. ZogSports was fun because I got to play kickball with some great friends, but they run a really poor organization. It's a shame that this is one of the only adult sports leagues in Hoboken. read more

Fun.. Social..Active. How can you complain with any of that? Zogsports is a great, social organization that allows you to have fun, be social, and get some endorphins flowing simultaneously. Does it replace the gym? Probably not, unless you do one of the super-competitive leagues. I did cornhole, so umm, yeah, I still needed to hit the gym afterwards haha. But I had a ton of fun, and I made some great friends that I still talk to outside of the games. There are a variety of options. In the past, I've also done volleyball, but there's kickball, soccer, dodgeball, softball, and more. You want to play it? They probably have it. You can also choose your competitive level, so whether you're a top athlete, or have 0 hand-eye coordination, there is a league for you. There are leagues offered throughout the year, and you can choose based on days (ie: Sunday league, as opposed to a weekday league). If your work schedule isn't flexible, sometimes the times can conflict. It's also a little expensive (BUT part of your contribution goes to donating to the winning team's philanthropic organization). You also get discounted alcohol after the games. Overall, if you have the time and you enjoy being social, do it. I suggest joining with at least one friend in the beginning so you feel at ease, but if you rather go at it solo, you'll still have a blast! read more

I have been involved with ZogSports since 2010. Got introduced to it by some friends who put together an indoor soccer team. Zog is great about providing everything you need to have fun on and off the field/court. I've played in leagues in Weehawken, Jersey City, and Palisades Park. Cool thing is that there is always a happy hour at a nearby bar/restaurant so whether you are on a team with friends or people you just met, it is all good! Having said that, I have not only played on a team with friends but have been placed on teams with people I did not know which is cool. If you are new to an area that Zog is in and are looking to meet new people, what better than via some sports and a solid happy hour? Beyond that, it doesn't even matter if you have never played the sport you signed up for and there are so many to choose from! They even have a league dedicated to cornhole! Give it a try! You have nothing to lose since the money you pay to play goes to charity! read more

This is by far the worst league of sports ever. I signed up for soccer league and only 3 teams on the league. We literally played back to back barely any breaks and were playing the same teams every single week. Not sure who is in charge of the league, but out of 3 teams 2 of us really sucked bad 1 was a power house and can tell they've been playing together. I would never ever join Zog again. I've been doing zog for the last 5 years or so in Hoboken. I was brand new to the city when i started and now i feel like i know a ton of people with a very large part of that due to how easy it is to meet people through zog. Started off just playing kickball and dodgeball which generally are more fun than competitive and then started playing touch football which can be competitive or fun depending on the league level. Whichever sport you play, the happy hours are fantastic! Would def recommend to everyone! Great way to be active and meet people! read more

Zogsports is an excellent way to meet new people and have a fun time doing it. Whether it's "on the field" or at the happy hour people are always super friendly and have a fun time with whatever is going on. I have played football and kickball and no matter the sport, it's always a good time. I have been involved with Zogsports for about 7 years now. I happened to stumble upon it when I saw a group of guys wearing the shirts. I asked them what the league was and how do I get involved. To make a long story short I ended up subbing for them 1 week and the rest is history. After that initial season of football I found myself playing season after season while tacking on other sports such as Softball, Kickball, Volleyball and Dodgeball. To this day I play on multiple teams each season as they are great with my schedule making sure to avoid conflicts if possible. The leagues are fun and to make things even better they give a portion of the league/registration fees to a charity of your choice if you end up placing 1st or 2nd place in your division. Zog is a great way to stay active, relive those glory days, meet new people or simply hang out with friends. It's definitely worth giving it a shot and they have a plethora of sports that may interest you. I highly recommend it to anyone who may be looking for those opportunities. Oh and did I mention that there is a Happy Hour at a local bar before/after your sport? Try it out for a season and see if its for you, you won't regret it. read more

Been involved with Zog since I moved to Hoboken about a year ago. Started off doing cornhole and moved to Kickeball in the warmer months :) I really enjoy the leagues- It's a great way to meet people and get involved, especially if you are new to the area. Everyone is friendly and the happy hours after are always a good time.. sometimes too good! Highly recommend getting involved. I didn't know anyone when I first signed up and I felt welcome from the start. The staff is very easy to get a hold of and respond quickly to any questions you might have. read more

Best league EVER! I've been playing on Zog for the last 7 years (usually up to 3 sports a season). Not only is it for a good cause, but it's a great way to make friends and be active. Moving to a town knowing only 2 people, Zog has been a great way for me to make friends. I'd say at this point over 50% of my friends somehow stem from Zog. ZogSports also has sports for any level of player - and endless amounts of sports to choose from. If you're looking for something fun to do then Zog is it - and if you don't enjoy fun things you should look elsewhere. You can't go wrong! read more

I had to contact them a few times with questions when I was signing my team up and they were very responsive (by both phone and email) and accommodating. We missed signing up in the early registration period by one day but I had contacted them about it and they refunded us the difference. read more

I started out slow playing in just one league, Montclair volleyball, and it was such a great atmosphere that I can occasionally now be found playing in four leagues at the same time. ZogSports NJ is either a scam or the most poorly run organization ever. I registered for the spring soccer league and Zog took my money, but I haven't heard anything since then about my team, schedule, etc. I have tried emailing and calling multiple times, but no one answers the phone, returns voicemails, or returns emails. Avoid Zog unless you want to get ripped off and waste your time. There are other leagues out there so do yourself a favor and avoid Zog. read more

I have been doing ZogSports in both NY and NJ since 2005. Dodgeball, Kickball, Bowling, and Volleyball. I have made many friends and had a great time playing. I love it because it breaks up the week and forces me to go outside and hang with my friends and it doesn't cost as much as a night out or a dinner out even. After parties are always a great time and very short walking distance in NJ. The teams mingle and don't just hang out be themselves most of the time which makes it easier to meet more people. This is especially true with Kickball which is my favorite since I love being outdoors too. I highly suggest this for people who just moved to the area or who need to meet new people. ZogSportsNJ is the perfect way to get out, have fun, and meet people that enjoy the same things as you! In 2007 I started playing Dodgeball in Hoboken and had so much fun I decided to give other sports a shot and have been playing ever since. Through ZogSportsNJ I have made some of my best friends and had a blast in the process. Whether you are really athletic or just looking for a fun casual game, Zog has a team for you. It is a casual environment and it is great way of getting in shape. Some of my closet friends I met through Zogsports. I love this league! Zog is definitely a highlight of my week and I'm always looking forward to playing. Also what a great and fun way to meet people! OK I try not to be that guy and go online to retaliate with my keyboard if I have a bad experience but I feel its important to note what I'm about to say before giving these guys your money... I belong to the NJ Mens 4v4 Basketball League. My 1st experience with Zog was breif and they seemed to answer the questions I had with accommodation. Once I was signed up and paid my entry fees things somewhat changed and I've decided not to rejoin next season. Based on their website information the games would start between 7PM and 10PM. Not a bad time frame because it gives us a chance to have dinner or hang out a bit after work before bball. Our first game is at 10PM... Late but we haven't played ball since the summer and we are gung ho about balling now that the spring is finally here... So we enter the boys and girls club expecting a nice size gym to shoot around until our games start. We enter and there is literally no room to shoot around or warm up before our game... Not a problem. We stretch and get ready for our game... Which BTW is 2 games about 15-17 min which doesn't allow for much. We get 1 Ref who calls fouls if he feels like it and at 10PM he doesn't call 90% of the things he should because all he is worried about is his stopwatch and leaving for the night. The floor is painted and dusty as hell so there's absolutely no grip and in a full court game I can see by the many slips and falls that no grip on the gym floor could be and is a problem.. Also, apparently the people on the sidelines are responsible for keeping score and in one game alone we had to wake the guy up 2-3 times within 5 minutes to put our points up on the board because he was just not paying attention to the game at all while tasked with this elaborate and hugely complicated job. Here we are week three and all of our games have been at 10PM where we play two games back to back and it looks to us that other teams get at least a game in between to rest. Next week our time changes to 9PM (wooptie f*ckn do)... More late games... Now I sent the league manager an email politely asking for our times to be switched around so we can have some early games to break it up and kind of offset the late night redeye games... he replies 3 days later and says games are from 8-10 and that he cant change the schedule once the season starts even tho it says nowhere on the site that you can request earlier games prior to the season and on top of that the site clearly states games start between (7pm-10pm)... According to the league manager's email games start at 8:00pm and no earlier. I hope this reaches everyone who is shopping around for a league and sways you to look elsewhere. read more

I used to be Zogs biggest fan, recommending it to anyone who would listen, signing up friends and family. I made some really great friends playing zog in Hoboken. That said, the quality of some leagues has declined over the years. I've been playing weeknight football since 2013, 3 seasons a year on two teams in two divisions. Even with 8pm and 9pm start times on two different nights each week, I can understand one, maybe two scheduling conflicts in a 7 week season tops. So when Zog managed to double book 4 of my 7 games in a single season, I was understandably not happy. Every one of those weeks I had to chose which team to bail on. Certainly takes some of the fun out of it. Not to mention the roster spots are expensive, and I did not get what I paid for. But that's not what bothered me. What bothered me was that I emailed the league manager to ask if this was going to keep happening and if I should only sign up for one team from now on. No response. Cue follow up email, no response. Third follow up email, no response. The next season I magically had no conflicts, but that's not the point. I still play, but at this point I'm just hoping another touch football league comes to Hoboken so I can play in a league that's run more professionally. A league where they actually make an effort to take pictures during the games and post them. Where the refs are paid enough to care, because half of them clearly do not want to be there and are in a hurry to end the games so they can leave. A league where you don't have to volunteer ref and make one of your teammates show up at the field an hour early or stay an hour late in the rain, shine, or bitter cold. A league where after years of playing and thousands of dollars spent, you actually get the courtesy and respect of a response to your emails. I'm sure I'll get some "we're sorry you didn't have a good experience" response to this review, but it's a little late for that considering I sent a fourth email a couple weeks ago expressing my frustration and still no response. So here I am. I really hope zog actually takes some of what I said here to heart, because it has the potential to be a much better experience and maybe attract some new teams read more

I must admit that my long hours and stress at work can be draining. Fortunately, I have my ZogSports volleyball games to look forward to each week. I really cannot believe how much I look forward to competing on the court and hanging out with my team. The ZopSports' leagues give me a chance to keep active, meet up with old friends, and make new life-long friends. It is amazing how much fun we have, and how close we all have become over the past few seasons. I cannot decide if I enjoy the games or grabbing a drink with my teammates more. I look forward to participating in more of ZogSports leagues for as long as I can! read more

This is my third season playing Zog soccer and I'm super excited about it. I hadn't played in a while and was really missing the game. I'd played in some other rec leagues but never found one that players were committed to but yet still didn't get overly competitive. I love zog sports! It's a lot of fun and a great way to meet new people! The zog sports team in Hoboken are very organized and responsive when you have questions or concerns. Our volleyball team had one pair of zog sports sunglasses that we used as "MVP glasses" at the end of each game for fun -- when I wrote to Chris and Matt about it, they sent a pair for everyone on the team -- it was such a fun surprise!
