We play finals they change a referee during the half time, this rookie referee did a terrible job and we almost fight together. After a disastrous season with Zog in winter 2016 (in which they cancelled games the same day, moved the schedule around with no warning and did little to respond to our concerns), I foolishly decided to give them another chance in spring 2018. Our soccer games were on a field with no lines, no lights (problematic for the later games), and an actual sprinkler head sticking up in the middle of the field that I almost sprained my ankle on. This mess of a "Tuesday" league had a random game on a Monday, which of course, none of our players could make it to. While in 2016 management was not great, it feels like they have somehow even gotten worse - when we brought up concerns about the field, Kendra initially replied telling us politely to get over it. When we continued to look for a solution, she just stopped responding altogether. Every single player on our team is swearing we will NEVER USE ZOG AGAIN. Management is terrible, leagues are dismal quality, and for the same price, you could play with a competitor like DC Fray or District Sports with fair/organized/responsive management and quality fields. read more

Let me preface that my feedback is based on my one experience with the Zogsports DC's AdMo 7v7 Summer Mini-League (2016). It was possibly the most disorganized soccer league that I've played in (my 33+ years of playing soccer). I am giving 2 stars because the players and the referees were super nice and fun to play with... That said, $70 was a bit exorbitant for a mini-league that was to be 4 games. And more importantly, there were only 3 teams, not 5 in the league! We found out the day that the league began that we would be playing only 2 other teams the entire 4 weeks. In addition, teams that evening had to be prepared for double headers. I assumed that we would have 4 games with 4 different teams. $70 is about what I pay for 8 games plus playoffs with District Sports, which is very well-organized. The games were either delayed because of the time required to set up the pitch (no lines, so we had to await the referee to place down cones and set up goals), or have games cut short because we started late and the Park Service arrived to lock the field gate... We helped the refs each week with cones and goals before and after games. This is the only league that I've ever had to set up for. It would have helped to have their referees arrive early to have the pitch ready to go and for games to start on time... Walter Pierce is a cute community park - we played on the grass field, which was a fun change from turf... But, with there being low fencing, balls were often kicked outside of the park (down the hill or into the dog park). Let's just say that we witnessed an owner try to yank a soccer ball from her pit bull, only to have the ball returned completely punctured. The only ball available were two flats... one that was old, and couldn't be pumped. The other, thankfully, new. However, we were only able to play because I happened to have a ball pump. The league referees should have balls ready to go (and a pump handy). I am assuming that this is an experience unique to the summer season and to the Walter Pierce park. I really like the players that I've met, and we shall see whether Zogsports DC will honor us another mini-league registration or credit for another try in response to this poor experience. read more

Overall, Zog Sports is better than DC Fray in my opinion. I've done several sports with both companies, and Zog definitely is more organized. The refs and umps are professional and have typically fun personalities. The reason I give it 3 stars is because the soccer league I signed up for puts us on possibly the worst fields in DC for the sport. While I wish we had the luxury of turf every game, I don't expect that. But what I do expect is that if they are going to put you on grass, at least test out the pitches first, because they are unplayable and it makes for a much less tactical game and more of a 'boot it down the field and pray someone taps it in' kind of game. I don't really need to pay for that experience! read more

Never registering for soccer at Zogsports again! You're paying a lot of money for a "season" of play, which amounts to a handful of weeks of games. Sometimes your team will be booked to play twice in one week just to get the league over with faster, and other times you won't be able to play your game if it's scheduled during the evening and they forget to program the lights accordingly. The playoff format is also poor. Teams play a semifinal and final back to back, and sometimes only one semi final will be played, essentially giving the bye-team a fresh start against the winning semifinal team who had 5 minutes to rest after having played an hour. It takes all the competition and fun out of the league! Simply put: horrible management. I've guest played in some other leagues over the past year and have not experienced the same unprofessionalism, so you'd do best to play soccer with district sports or another league in the metro area. Organized, professional, and so many options. I have played softball with Zog in a couple of different leagues around DC. The DC leagues played softball with a softer ball and metal bats, compared to other leagues (such as USS) that play with a real ball and wood bats. The folks who run Zog are all incredibly friendly, and they reach out personally to players in their leagues to make sure their experiences are going well. New to DC? I think that every large metro area needs something like ZogSports. I've lived in a few suburbs (cough, Newport RI) that could really use some sort of a social hub and outlet for fun like what ZogSports provides to the greater DC area. I moved to DC to support a contract and didn't know anyone in the area. I'm a strong proponent of finding your own social circle, and I met a bounty of great folks while playing competitively in Zogs leagues. Zog Sports has leagues for every kind of person, and most of them are coed. Soccer, football, dodgeball, volleyball, basketball......and they cater for casual (read: non athletes) and the more serious folks. I joined the flag football league, and it was a far cry from Fairfax athletics, where everyone seemed to have been playing together since high school. Really enjoyed the happy hours and the emphasis on having fun vice trying to kill everyone you play. Zog Sports is great for networking as well, since people from all backgrounds and experiences join one community. Sometimes, the private solution for sports and group activities offers options that city owned and run leagues are incapable of providing. If Zog is any indication, the results are great. read more

Weird name. Great Organization. I've done other adult sports leagues and usually, they are run by a group of volunteers or college students. This is not that. ZogSports is a full on operation with lots of different leagues and teams. AKA- not just kickball. I like the shirts, the fields, and Casey and Kendra are the best. ZogSports DC co-ed soccer leagues are awesome. Kendra the GM is a superstar and is on top of everything. As a disclaimer, I have been both a referee and a player in ZogSports soccer leagues, take from that what you will. First, the leagues go year round with indoor and outdoor soccer, and they are all on great turf fields (or gyms in the winter) in convenient locations near a metro (AdMo, Dupont, Shaw, Columbia Heights, Cap Hill, Arlington and probably a few I forgot). Second, Zog is the best league for meeting new people and having fun. A lot of the other leagues (cough cough District Sports and Metro Sports) have leagues of teams that all know each other. In Zog you have plenty of those teams, but you also have a lot of teams comprised of free agents who didn't know each other before that season. That is what makes Zog special, the environment it creates where complete strangers come together and become friends while bonding over those little black rubber pellets that turn up everywhere in your clothes after a game. Third, there is a competition level for everyone. You can be a complete beginner or a college soccer player and still get a lot out of the Zog leagues. Finally, it's all for charity! Not only are we DC metrobots feeling better about the multi-happy hour weeks we had by running around, but we are all doing it for a charity of our own choice. Almost forgot, their website is easy to navigate for scheduling/rules/etc. and the price at $80 a season is very reasonable compared to the other DC soccer leagues. read more

I played multiple sports with Zogsports in NY for several years and I am so excited that Zogsports has finally made it to DC! I met a lot of my good friends in NY through Zogsports both through my teams and at happy hours. I currently play dodgeball and volleyball with Zogsports and comparedt to other sports leagues I have experienced in DC, Zogsports is incredibly well organized and a completely professional organization. Having money donated to your selected charity makes winning that much better and is a motivating factor for me when I play. GET OUT OF OUR NEIGHBORHOOD SPACES Let's review what Zog Sports' website claims are their core values and how they violate them: 1. "CARING-- We Care About... The Communities in Which We Play" The Zog League showed up where a community game was already taking place in Columbia Heights, kicked the neighbors off the field with proof of their permit, and then police were called when the neighbors took back the soccer nets they paid for THEMSELVES as private citizens. A neighbor was fined and given a 5-year ban on public Parks & Rec spaces. Even though he had a receipt for the nets he donated to his community. 2. "OWN IT: We Take Ownership & Do Whatever It Takes" By joining this league, your money is going towards $4,000-a-pop city permits for the fields used, some of which are already occupied by neighborhood activities. If Zog wants to have a future as a part of the District's communities, I recommend they show respect to spaces that traditionally serve the local neighborhoods. You're monopolizing public space by "OWNING IT" and culturally evicting communities of color. 3. "TEAM PLAYER: Through the Spirit of Camaraderie" The Harriet Tubman School field has always been a local playground for our community. It's where neighbors play sports as pick-up games or low-key planned groups. The past few years, a Bocce League permitted for space once a week. As of July 2017, Zog Sports has obtained permits for THREE NIGHTS a week through the end of summer break/nice weather. There is no team-player attitude or camaraderie here. 4. "CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT: We are Committed to Getting Better Every Day in Everything We Do as Individuals & as a Company" Are you, now? Had a bad experience during the past winter session (pushed back 1 week, only 4 teams in a league with one team essentially two teams, they just played twice with different team names, went from 4v4 to 5v5), but had great experiences in past summer and early fall sessions, plenty of teams. Signed up for Summer 2017 and it's at my favorite location, Eastern High School (had awesome experiences at that location). Even with the bad experiences during the Winter Sessions, team mates and opponents demonstrated fair play. Even when our teams were getting trounced, the opponents eased up not making it look too embarrassing (their leading scorer would go back and play defense). If a team came in short handed, the other teams agreed to play short as well; can't say that for the other leagues. Staff would always respond no matter how much I complained...they listened and apologized. So even though my Winter Session experience was bad, the other times of the year was pretty cool. read more

Only joined a zog league because they were one of the first to advertise reopening play in DC and my team captain had already asked a bunch of people signed up. Man I wish I hadn't joined this league. We pay more for this league than another league I play in Arlington. And for that extra money we get a terrible amateur ump, play on a swampy super small little league field with broken lights and broken glass, no covid precautions/enforcement in place at games, less games overall and here's the kicker, no Zog team shirts (apparently because of "covid concerns"). Not really sure where all the money goes but this is the first and last time I'll be playing in a zog league. read more

I've participated in Zog Sports leagues for about 4 years now and highly recommend them to anyone interested in recreational sports. Here are a few Zog Sports highlights: 1. The level of competition offers something for everyone. I've tried a few other local rec sports leagues and didn't have nearly as much fun because even the "casual" leagues were way above my comfort level. When you sign up for Zog you choose your preferred level of play on a scale ranging from Casual to Players. In my experience, they do a great job at separating teams into divisions that ensure you'll be on the field with people you're comfortable playing with and against. This is especially true for popular sports like soccer and football that have high participation rates. 2. Plenty of league options to choose from. Zog typically organizes leagues on several different days so you're able to choose one that fits your schedule. For example, this fall you can choose from 11 different soccer leagues in a variety of locations. Zog has also started offering leagues in Arlington for those who can't make the trip into the city. 3. Plenty of sports to choose from. I've played soccer, volleyball, and flag football with Zog. They also offer kickball, dodgeball, softball, basketball, etc. I've been on teams with people who have played since they were kids, and people who just wanted to have some fun and are out there for the first time. There really is something for everyone. 4. I guarantee you'll make new friends. My soccer team has played together for going on 3 years now and frequently hang out off the field as well. Last summer I flew to France to attend a wedding for 2 teammates I met through Zog. Zog also has partner bars that offer drink specials for players who come in after their games. It's a great way to meet new people, all while getting in shape and having fun. 5. The most unique aspect of joining a Zog sports league is that you're playing for charity. Zog donates 10% of net proceeds and 100% of happy hour bar contributions to charities selected by the participating teams. There's no better way to get in shape, meet new people, have some fun, and win some money for a good cause. I agree with previous reviews. One thing is to have difficulties based on what is out of your control, but something completely different is doing a mediocre job and cheat people... My review is more of a warning: be careful. The descriptions and pictures shown on the website DO NOT reflect the actual condition of the fields and equipment. Our league mentioned "regulation-sized" goals, and ended up with pop-up goals. It described a normal soccer field, and we ended up playing in a crappy field, somewhere in the middle of a park, with no lines, and uneven terrain. Every game was a lottery as to who would get injured that time. I'm attaching a picture of what is advertised vs. the actual field. Judge for yourselves. This is false advertisement, and even after we brought it up to the attention of the league, they dismissed us. We discussed it with other teams, and they felt the same. Some of my teammates have played with ZogSports in other states, and they were very disappointed. It is definitely a DC issue... If you are looking for some level of professionalism and quality, go somewhere else. District Sports and DC Fray are great alternatives. read more

Its hard to say enough good things about Zog DC. The competition is pretty good but the real point of the league is to bring people together for a good time. The league usually does bar nights after the games and that is really what makes it more fun than a pickup game with a couple of friends on the mall. I'm no Chaucer so I will let the Gray Lady give you Zog in a nutshell: "Alternatively, imbibers could be "socializing and drinking after participating in organized group sports." Zog Sports has been appalling during this covid-19 response. I was signed up for a league to start in April which naturally got cancelled. I had already paid and asked to get my money reimbursed. First, Kendra said that the money would be reimbursed in a year!!!! if unable to use the credit by April 2021. Now, Nick Cruit who is responding that for no extenuating circumstances (even with moving outside the metropolitan area where they conduct intramurals) do they offer a refund. This company has terrible customer service and is looking to be sued. Because that is what is going to happen if they continue to take people's money without refund. Don't play. I'm a female player. I have never, ever had this poor quality of ref in my life. Even my women's teams refs let more contact. I'm on DCFray and WAWSL. They're amazing leagues. I really don't understand why they call or don't call. I do however see refs w their friends on other teams. I almost don't want to play all even though I'm out the money. I can't speak for all the sports, but if you are looking to play soccer, look elsewhere. After multiple seasons playing in the league, they have consistently denied us of games we have paid to play by forgetting to schedule for the lights to turn on, double-booking game times with other leagues, and canceling playoff games you are entitled to play. Don't try to talk to Zog about it either- their lack of consideration makes is clear that their only goal is to take your money and run through a season as quickly as possible so as to collect money for the following season. My team and I love playing rec volleyball and have been alternating between Zog and USS for the past 2+ years. After about ten leagues, of which we've won 3 :), we all agree that Zog is far superior!!! There's so much we love about Zog but here are the highlights: 1. You're playing for a cause! The winning team gets a BIG (size-wise) check donated to their favorite charity! 2. Their refs are the BEST! Mauricio was our ref in the last couple of leagues and he was just the nicest, sweetest and most professional AND he's a legit v-ball player on his country's national team!! He was always there early and even taught us some super helpful volleyball drills. He's no longer in DC but we really loved having him around!! 3. Zog's management is really good about accommodating people's schedules. We always sign up for the Mon/Wed league but can only play on Wednesdays and they do their best to make that happen. 4. They provide lights for night time games! 5. Super easy sign up process online - it saves all your team's info so you don't have to re-enter it with each new league. 6. The competition is fierce! It's rec volleyball but there's still a healthy amount of bumps, sets, spikes that keep the games competitive and exciting! If you've played with USS before, you'd know there's no donation to a charity, their games are sometimes self-refed, and although the competition varies by league, it was crazy bad this past summer. The only aspect of USS we do really like is the tank tops! Zog's t-shirts are just not as fun and a bit constricting. Although now that we have about 10 Zog/USS tops, it would be great for the leagues to organize a shirt donation day or give teams the option to opt out of shirts, save some money and the environment, and re-use old ones :) read more

This is an update to my review based on Kendra from Zogsport's response. Thanks for the response, but you haven't actually addressed any of the concerns I or the other folks I'm now seeing post on here about your soccer leagues have. Totally get the reasoning behind the no-gender thing, but in practice your no-gender leagues have turned into men's leagues. Unless you've got ex NCAA ladies playing on your team it ends up being unfair and not fun trying to give fair time in the game for everyone and still be able to compete. We didn't have an option for one of your co-ed soccer leagues in our area so that doesn't help us much. Sorry, not buying the reason folks have to trek into the city to pick up shirts is just to "meet" you. I can show you emails with very specific times of day that we were allowed to come get our shirts if you'd like--it wasn't just any time during your office hours (and we were asked to email and confirm when we were coming, not to email if we couldn't make one of those times). Here's an idea: if someone can't make it in, you should offer to bring them to the games like other leagues and we can meet then! I also have emails from ZogSports I'd be happy to show you about the league being a 4 on 4 league, not 5 on 5. Not sure what you're looking at, but we had 8 players and a handful of those folks we already knew weren't going to be able to make some games (including yours truly) so we were looking at 4-6 players each week if everything worked out perfectly (which it doesn't). We are busy adults with very important things to do, you see, and not knowing we needed an extra player on the field really affected us! Hey, how bout just taking responsibility instead of telling me that my team shouldn't have had a problem with your mistake? Love the Boys and Girls Clubs and what they stand for, I really do. If you're going to charge people a lot of money to play in a league, you should make sure the facilities are up to a certain standard though. If you like supporting their mission, let's help them out in other ways like donating money rather than duping your customers into paying you handsomely to play at a cramped, aging facility that's not properly equipped for the sport. Honestly the refs are the least concerning aspect of the whole experience, so I'd rather you look into fixing these other ZogSports idiosyncrasies first--like scheduling double headers during the regular season presumably to save on renting the space? After playing flag football in various leagues over the past 5+ years, my team decided to try ZogSports based on the cheaper price and Columbia Heights location. The one season we played will be our last with Zog. We found the league to be disorganized with strange rules (the center can't move after snapping the ball?) and poor reffing. Most games were officiated by only one referee and the refs were not prepared for the games (confusion about the rules, didn't have a whistle, etc.). Your team will have a better time in another league, even if it costs a little more. read more

I have been playing both softball and volleyball with Zog for over 2 years now and I am very pleased with their service and attention to detail. They provide great refs who are knowledgeable about the games and who aren't afraid to enforce the rules. And the administrators go out of their way to communicate with teams ahead of time. Shout out to the friendly staff: Kendra, Casey, and Joe. Zog is far superior to other DC sports leagues, namely USS. I'm tired of USS canceling games with little or no notice, and forgetting to secure permits, or bring lighting. Keep your pitchers of beer... we came to play sports. They had me at "win money for charity by being competitive". Been playing indoor volleyball with Zog DC for quite some time now - and have always enjoyed the energy everyone brings to the games and happy hours. Seeing how awesome Kendra and Casey are (brownie points), I ended up ref'fing with Zog for soccer and volleyball and filling in here and there for other sports. Overall, it's a great organization with a great mission with awesome, dedicated employees. ZogSports DC has something for everyone. Its large selection of sports leagues and varying levels of competition make it accessible to everyone. The refs and staff are very responsible, responsive, and fun. They are also dedicated to ensuring that its players have access to the best equipment and facilities each season. I am also impressed by Zog's commitment to bettering the area by making a donation to the championship team's charity of choice. No matter what your sport preference or experience level, the Zog community is the perfect social sports setting and my favorite in DC. I've been playing both sand and indoor volleyball with Zog for almost 2 years. I started out on a randomly assigned team and now play regularly with those same people. I played 3 vs. 3 basketball with Zog in the winter and it was a great experience. The competition level is good (if that's your thing) but more important is the fact that most (90%+) of the people in our league were out to have a good time and not necessarily to stomp all over everyone else. The league is very well run and the staff (including the refs) are very responsive/reasonable folks. Overall, the atmosphere is super positive and that's in part thanks to the added benefit of having some solid happy hour deals after the games. The only downside is it's a little pricey but definitely competitively priced against the other social sports leagues in DC -- so you may as well do Zog. read more

Zog is definitely the best league I have played in in DC. I've played softball, basketball and football and they are always so well run. The leagues are competitive but not overly so. I've never had a bad time and always get to meet great new people. I highly suggest signing up for zog. read more
