Echiladas mole poblano are awesome. They also do pork chops on mole sauce. It's fantastic. Avoid the nights with the mariachi band. As nice as it would seem in a small restaurant there is no way for the trumpet player not to be incredibly loud. However the food is great portions are generous they lose a star because the prices are slightly higher than other Mexican restaurants in the area. read more

I should have been warned when we walked in on and were the only ones there, but I was starving and love Mexican food and really wanted to love the place based on the reviews I saw online. Despite our solo status in the restaurant the waiter kept disappearing to the point where I had to go into the kitchen to ask for our check. The food was just ok, but ridiculously expensive. $15.95 for steak quesadilla appetizer?!! It wasn't good quality beef, looked like three little cheese soaked tacos and it didn't even come with any salsa, sour cream or guacamole!! read more

This was my first time eating here after passing by it for many years. We ordered take out and the food was ready in 10 minutes. The food was great! The rice and beans that come with everything were really good. We tried to enchiladas, burritos, and tostadas. I recommend any of them. The staff is very friendly! One of my favorite places to go. I live in walden and like to support local businesses. Fresh chips and salsa (the salsa is a little watery but the flavor is great) Margaritas on the rocks with salt are delicious. Not from a mix, fresh. The entrees taste grandma homemade! I was here about 2 years ago and ordered take out. Looking at the menu, and loving Mexican food, we ordered EVERYTHING! I got home and everyone took a little bit of everything. The food was bland, seriously lacked flavor. All in all, I did not enjoy the food and have yet to return. It was suggested that it may have been the cook that day.. And maybe it was.. So, Zona Rosa... It was a weird experience for my husband and I. We were in the mood for Mexican, and one of the newer local places in our town had a disappointing looking menu. So we drove over to Walden having just seen a coupon in the mail for Zona Rosa to check it out. We got there around sunset, super hungry, and when we walked in there were barely any lights on and we thought they might be closing. A young boy came out and sort of seated us but also sort of didn't care. My husband ordered a soda which we found out at the end of the meal did not come with free refills... 3 sodas later. The meal itself was bland and canned tasting. We both love garlic, but the rice was so overwhelmingly garlicky that I couldn't finish it. I could've done better with a taco kit at home. And our waiter, maybe he was 14, was so not attentive, had terrible hospitality (he barely cared if we were enjoying anything or needed anything and would just walk away after taking our orders without a word) except at the end of our meal where he encouraged us to take our time even though we were clearly finished...maybe with a different wait staff I'd have given this place 2 stars. I am not sure how this place stays open aside from the locals who must order take out a lot having not had really good Mexican food to compare it to. Do not recommend. read more

Absolutely love this place. Their homemade chips and salsa are to die for. I always switch it up but make sure there is at least a chicken chimichanga on my plate. I won't go anywhere else. PASS THIS ONE UP .Stop by there last night .Past by it a lot thought I go in with a friend.Dark and not well lit inside but I said I give it a try . Had the salsa and chip very watered down not good . Ordered a combination platter number 37&38 .Over cook rice mush on both.Red sauce on plablano pepper and enchalada was just like ketchup no flavor what's so ever .refried beans were about the best out of the can .plablano pepper was so small almost unrecognizable no flavor. The enchalada was crap no flavor at all. They put the plate in oven with the food and to melt the cheese and drys every thing out.The two of us had 4 fountain drinks total .Pepsi 2.50 each.10.00 in drinks alway burns me up that price . Now I know why they keep the the place dark so u can not see the food. read more

Got a few dishes to go - couldn't really differentiate between what was what - no matter what we ordered it all looked and tasted the same - bland and chewy - you could tell the rice and beans - but then it was a pile of cheese, sauce and some type of meat - like beef, chicken, pork or equine..who knows - I really didn't feel this was Mexican!! Went on a Thursday night and there were only two other tables occupied - wasn't sure if this was a good thing or a bad thing. Ordered the tortilla soup - took a little long to come out of the kitchen. Had a pretty good flavor but was a bit oily - not alot of chicken or rice in it - mostly big chunks of farmer's cheese and tortilla strips in broth - it was extremely hot and so it took some time to eat. Wasn't halfway through my soup when my entree came out which was the the steak fajitas. The presentation was nice but the food itself - the steak, the veggies, the refried beans and the rice - was just warm. Not hot, not sizzling, warm. I debated having it go back to the kitchen to be put in the microwave but figured I'd just go ahead and eat it since I was pretty hungry. It came with three small tortillas which were warmed up but were a bit hard and stale - the smallest one was so hard I didn't eat it. I didn't like the guacamole that came with it as it was a bit chunkier than I prefer - I ate it but it was bland. The steak was cut in all different lengths and some of the pieces had grizzle to the point where I had to spit them into a napkin. The rice was bland and a bit dry, the beans were bland and bit dry. Hubby had a combination plate of some burritos and chimichangas - whatever red sauce they used it was very sweet and didn't compliment the dish. It was very overpowering - tasted like tomato sauce and wasn't appetizing. We asked for some flan for dessert but its not an item on their menu so at that point we decided to skip the coffee and leave. Once again was looking for another amazing mexican restaurant in the area and we didn't find it here. read more

Went to Zona Rosa for the first time the other day, as we didn't want to deal with Broadway traffic in Newburgh or New Windsor, where most of the areas best Mexican restaurants are. Not much going on in downtown Walden in the middle of the week, so we were one of the only 2 tables they had filled at that time. Service in this place is exceptional; the wait staff are EXTREMELY nice and friendly, which is a great thing, and the place is very clean & quant. The food? Well, it's all fresh and prepared to order, but I just wish they would use some seasoning in their dishes. The chips & salsa came first; chips were fresh & tasty, but the salsa was very watery (it was as if they used canned tomato sauce) though a nice amount of cilantro & onions. Chunkier tomatoes, some jalapeno, salt & pepper would have gone a long way. We both had combination platters, and experienced a similar trend. The chicken enchiladas suizas were covered in a green sauce that had no kick to it (and was VERY acidic) though the melted cheese had a nice golden color and the beans were pretty tasty. My chimichanga was more like a flauta, and the enchilada was covered in a similar bland red sauce to the salsa. They did give us complimentary cheese quesadillas as an appetizer, and an after dinner shot of tequila which was rather nice of them. Beers & margaritas (strong!) are very reasonably priced, and overall the bill was about $60 for two including tip. Not bad food by any means, but just lacking some of the authentic Mexican flavors that many of their competitors in the area have. Perhaps the palettes of Walden folks trend towards the blander side of things, and the restaurant tones things down a bit to cater to that, but we were expecting a bit more. Again, the owners and staff are super nice, and the menu is extensive...maybe we just came on a bad night. read more

My girlfriend's family live in the Walden, Newburgh and Monticello area. We live in Westchester in Mamaroneck. Gave this place a chance while visiting our grandmother and boy do we regret that decision. The guy said it would be 10-15 minutes. I got there after waiting 10 minutes and then waited another 20. He forgot to put in a couple of items and the place was empty. It was 3:00, an off hour for eating food, but the place was absolutely empty. There was one server and he was talking loudly on his phone. Never did he stop to ask me if I wanted anything while I waited. Nonetheless, I gave him a 20% tip when the food was ready. Took it, drove to her grandmothers, and opened the food to find the most inedible looking Mexican meal. The rice smelled like feet, the enchilada looked like tomato soup with cheese, and the tacos were disgusting. Very very disappointed and it wasn't so cheap. Never going back here and regret leaving such a tip on a pickup meal. Really tried to give this place a shot. Wouldn't recommend this restaurant for take out and certainly not to eat. read more

I called to order food to go and ordered steak tacos and he told me the price and is was 15.95 for 3 tacos. Expensive isn't the word and I just went to my fav taco place in middletown, my called la Tapatio that charge me 8.95 for 3 tacos with rice and beans and nachos with salsa. Zona rosa is way over priced and don't even know how they are in business. The waiter/owner has attitude problems. This is a restaurant that needs kitchen nightmares to come save them. read more

This restaurant felt like Mexico to me- quaint, intimate. The atmosphere is relaxed and unrushed. The perfect place to linger over a meal. I had chicken stuffed poblanos and they were delicious. The guacamole was the best I've ever had, and the salsa was fresh and yummy with lots of cilantro. My sister had steak tacos and she raved about them. My aunt, who is not usually crazy about Mexican food, had chalupas that made her an instant fan. And the owners are lovely. We finished our meal with complimentary shots- I wasn't drinking so not sure what they were, but my sister and aunt enjoyed theirs, as well as mine. LOL. So glad I stumbled across this place- its a hidden gem and will become a regular favorite. read more

I ate here tonight for first time and the food was delicious. I like the way they flavored the beef in the dish that I had. The appetizers were very fresh. I got a margarita that the waiter recommended and it was very good, and strong, wow! Most places water down their drinks, definitely not at Zona Rosa! They offered us desserts but we were so full and satisfied that we declined. Their quesadillas were amazing, I asked them and they told me that they use muenster cheese. read more
