My family and I stopped here on a Friday afternoon after coming from Legoland. Thankfully, it was a short drive away. I came here based on other yelp reviews. When my family and I walked in, we were immediately greeted with the smell of authentic Mexican food lofting throughout the air. The decorations were homemade and made us feel like we were away. Our waitress and the hostess were both very friendly and playful, which was helpful because our group had small children I ordered a chicken quesadilla and truly loved it. The portions for all of the different dishes were huge so no one was able to finish their food. All of the food items were moderately priced considering the portions that you get. I bookmarked this restaurant to return to when I'm that area again. El Rancho is a YES for me. read more

Stopped for dinner headed north on 17 from NYC. Easy off and on the highway - something important to us on a long road trip. Convenient, small off street parking lot and fenced outdoor seating area. First thing you notice is the delightfully over-the-top tacky decor. Service was immediate and we were welcomed with complimentary tortilla chips and salsa. The food was delicious and the portions appropriately generous. Theres a full bar and assorted Mexican beers and alcohols but with a 3 hour ride left we stuck with Diet Coke. This has got to be the best Mexican food I've ever had. The owner told me it's a family-owned business--her husband and children all work there. Honestly, you can taste the love in every bite. I had the appetizer quesadilla, which I shared with my 7-year-old son, along with a side of refried beans. The portion was large, so I saved some of the refried beans for the next day and had them with a side of eggs for breakfast--delicious! My husband had the beef tacos, which he absolutely loved. We live in Jersey, about 1 hour and 30 minutes away, so it's hard to come back often, which is a shame. In NJ, we have tons of Mexican restaurants, but they all taste the same--nothing like this place. I wish it were easier for us to come here more often because this would definitely be our go-to spot! read more

Fairly small space that has always served up good food. Services can be spotty at times, but the most disappointing thing happened the last time we were there. I asked for water and they brought some bottled water that you get at BJs/Costco and charged us $2. Not cool. You should not be charged for water. And if something is wrong with the water coming from the street, then the soft drinks would be compromised as well...but I saw soda being served. read more

El Rancho has listened to someone about their service charges. The menu now clearly showcases the cash versus credit cost per meal. The receipt had it clearly written out. I'm not a fan of the price difference for cash versus credit but at least it doesn't catch you off guard. I also understand the cost is out of my control. In any case, the server last night was beyond fun and polite. She was attentive despite a busy crowd. The meal was beyond delicious. This time, I tried the chimichangas which were cooked to a perfection. The bean bowl was a nice touch. Went for lunch, place was empty. Disinterested waitress finally came over to our table.I asked for water and I was handed a plastic bottle, for which I was charged $2; not even given a glass. OMG! Mexico in Goshen and I had no clue! This is my new go to spot for some authentic Mexican tacos...OMG so darn yummy, yummy to my tummy! I stopped in and ordered the traditional Mexican tacos that come in a set of 5. What's awesome is you can mix and match so you can get a few chicken, beef and maybe steak tacos. I indulged on these tiny deliciously small tacos but everything they brought out the kitchen to other tables looked finger licking good. This little restaurant served the best Mexican food I've ever had in my life. Better than any Mexican food I've had in any major city or in Mexico! They have authentic Mexican dishes as well as dishes that cater to American preferences. Very generous portions. Great kids meals. Even the chips and salsa are fantastic. Without a doubt, El Rancho is the best and most authentic restaurant to get Mexican food in the Hudson Valley, and within at least a 50-mile radius of Goshen. The service is consistently warm, friendly, and efficient, and the prices are awesome-- for the caliber of food and the amount, they could easily charge 25-50% more per dish, and I would absolutely not bat an eye, because their food is worth it! We've enjoyed everything here, but if I had to choose my favorites, I'd recommend you stick to the Traditional Mexican Food part of the menu, as that's where their culinary prowess truly outshines any competition in the area. Although we did leave the park early enough to be one of the first parties to sit down, the place was busy by the time most of our food arrived, and there were 2-3 people at a time waiting for takeout/delivery orders. Do not be fooled by the $10/$11 quesadilla. Ordered it with chorizo and it was very much an entree; had to rethink what else we would be ordering if we wanted to leave with our dignity intact. We were in town for Legoland, but wanted to eat outside the hotel/park. I read this place had great reviews and it did not disappoint! All the staff were lovely and great service. The restaurant is small, but we were there about 6pm on a Friday night and there was no wait. The hand crafted margaritas were delicious! I think I had the Vintage and my husband had a coconut lime margarita. Truly the best we've had in a long time! I was worried the food wouldn't be as good as the drinks, but it was amazing! The kids got the kids taco plates and they were really nice about having all the ingredients separate. My kids like to build their own tacos. My husband and I got the number 1 and number 6. Went to this place for brunch before heading over to legoland. Food is pretty good, but the I would give 1 star to the waitress. My 5 year old thanked her when she served her good, but She has no reaction and looked us with a weird attitude. Ruin my mood. When we pay, noticed 18% tips was included on the bill.
