Brian is an amazing home inspector, we just used him to inspect a very old and run down house within our budget. He was extremely detailed and thorough, which we appreciated very much since this will be our first home and also a fixer upper. We needed to know as many details as possible and the he pointed out many urgent/important things and answered questions along the way during the inspection. His reports are also very detailed, great descriptions and added photos, so we and the seller can understand where the issues are. We now have a much better feel of budget needed and items we can't fix ourselves and it also gives us a good "punch" list of items we need to work on if this sale goes through. I am writing this review to warn others should Brian display the kind of hostility to them that he has displayed to me. It started off badly when he claimed that the roof on my home was 24 years old. The house wasn't built until 2006 so that was impossible and when I pointed this out, he became hostile and antagonistic. He insisted that the house was built in 2002 (which still makes 24 years impossible) despite county records showing it was completed in 2006. From there on out, he refused to engage with me, include me in the inspection, ask questions or get clarifications. This resulted in an extremely erroneous report and damage to my home. Example: he claimed that a window was misaligned, marked it as an orange item and stated the window would have to be reinstalled by a professional contractor. When I asked him why he said he was unable to lock it. The window locks by pushing down on the top causing the lock to automatically engage. Its a feature of the window. If he had asked, I could have shown him how it works. He wrote up a shower head as faulty when all it needed was to be screwed in tighter. He stated replacing smoke detector batteries needed a qualified professional. He stated a loose door handle was a hazard. It just went on. Then he misrepresented the materials for the interior doors, windows, floors. But the worse was damage he did to the bracket on the garage door. He decided it was installed incorrectly, although it is installed right for the type of garage door opener, and while inspecting it he caused two screws to come loose which led to the door not closing correctly. I had to call a service person to come and fix it. Brian refused to take responsibility. He also deactivated a gas fireplace because he didn't know that the switch he was flipping was connected to the fireplace. It took me 45 minutes to figure out what he had done. In trying to get the report corrected, Brian stated that he was not able to work with me so he just ignored me, made assumptions and wrote things up that had he just asked questions would have been clarified. I got the feeling he did not like being challenged by a female and when I corrected him about the roof, he just got hostile. If he felt that way right at the beginning, the professional thing to have done would have been to stop the work and just leave the premises. Instead, he took the money, damaged the garage door and wrote up an erroneous report. He might be fine as a buyer's inspector where the buyer isn't going to challenge him but I would strongly warn a seller especially if the seller is female and knows that some of the things he is saying are incorrect. read more

It was our first time to hire Zoom Home Inspections and our inspector Brain really did a great job. Brian arrived at the house earlier than us. The house's floor area is around 3000sf and it took Brian 3.5 hours to inspect everything carefully. He focused on both major and minor issues, from waterproofing & ventilation problems to unfinished interior details. Whenever we have questions, he always provided us usefully information and good suggestions. Brian finished the inspection in the late afternoon of Friday, and we got the detailed & thorough report in the evening. Our broker recommended Brian to us for our pre-inspection. He was very patient and accommodating when we had to change our appointment at the last minute due to seller's schedule. Brian carefully inspected the outside and inside of the house, up on the attic and roof, and down in the crawl space. He pointed us to various key issues during the process and nicely explained to us the possible causes. He was also very knowledgeable when explaining those "weird" and interesting old features around this old house. The whole process took him more than three hours.
