Upon searching for model shops while spending a weekend in Windsor, NS, I happened upon this one,…read moreadvertised interestingly as "the only hobby store in the valley". (Uh, okay, then. Way to save me some time, I guess). I checked for a website, and while giving me location info, does, according to Google, suggest that there may be a virus on their host page's end. Fortunately, I didn't take that as a reason to avoid the place altogether, which in the end, was a good decision. (Note to self: tell the owner about it next time through Windsor). I don't know what I expected when coming into the small town store, but found myself pleasantly surprised by the selection available. In addition to the run-of -the-mill kits available by the big names (Revell, etc) there were a few more exotic labels to be seen as well. There was also more of a kit variety available too, including some harder to find items and vehicles of several sorts. There were also a few interesting assembly pieces in stock that I haven't routinely seen on shelf in some of the other stores I frequent, such as an air compressor converter piece and a handy model glue dispensing pen I was happy to exchange some coin for. There are also some additional items for sale in-store, as I suspect, as many mom&pop (but mostly pop) stores do, which included an R/C section, and a respectable section dedicated to sport fishing. Upon purchase of my finds (plus a really swell model of a Ford 427 engine), I engaged the owner in a bit of a chat, and found him quite knowledgeable about his work. Being a serious modeler himself, he seemed quite interested in keeping quality materials in stock when available, and seemed quite knowledgeable of "the scene", recommending that I check out at least one or 2 upcoming model shows in the province. All in all, a good find. Will definitely be back next time I'm in the area.

As I entered I was challenged with the question "what are you looking for?". I said I was a new member of the Annapolis Valley IPMS. The reply i got was "we don't do that anymore". I of course said "do what?" He said "radio control". I said thanks and turned on my heel and left. I am away from my home staying in the Valley and I have more kits at my temporary apartment than this business has. They have nothing, that could see that I can't get at Rewards In the Greenwood Mall. This experience is two hours of my life that I can't get back.

That slime ball sold my son a box of cards for 80$ that was released the DAY EARLIER and sold for 30$ at authorized Pokemon shops, these guys go around to all the stores and buy boxes then mark them way up. I can't believe you ripped off a nine year old with such pride. I hope this message reaches new collectors and you avoid this place. We will never set foot in this scalper shop again. Providing all your comic/fantasy/sci-fi needs in a wee tiny little shop? That's the model upon which the Strange Adventures' legend was built. There are, of course, some downsides to such a small location. It can be a bit cramped and definitely intimate. If you're incredibly shy, this may not be the best venue for you. The stock is also limited but they can order in pretty much anything you want that's not in store. Still, they have the latest and greatest. Whether you're buying for yourself or getting a gift for someone, staff can help you navigate the geekery and find just what you're looking for. Overall, a great addition to Strange Adventures' line and to Dartmouth.

Here's what I knew: this small shop on the corner of Portland and Wentworth was hosting an extensive half-price sale on their comic books and graphic novels. Here's what I didn't know: that the sale was combined with a 'take one for free' deal. So, there I am, looking through the collection to pick out the first comic I've bought since my youth, and I land on a very cool Marvel Origins book that basically outlines...uh...the origins of all the great heroes. $30, half-off, a hella deal. As any customer would, I take it to the counter, ready to take advantage of the promotion when the guy says, "Cool. Enjoy." and slides it back over to me. Intelligent and articulate as I could be, I said something along the lines of, "Buuuuaaahh huh?" Yep - apparently I could have taken it home for free. Just 'cause. I mean, that's not even a sale. That's just free awesome stuff, right? Am I crazy? Anyhow, since taking it would have made me feel like a shoplifter, I picked out a cheaper comic as a freebie and paid $13 for the big one. Any shop literally shoving free product in my hand seriously deserves some of my cash. I still got a crazy deal but avoided the guilt of being the biggest freeloading first-time customer ever. A Strange Adventure indeed.

You get to go in and paint your own men, they hold tournaments to play against others. There is a back room set up with large tables where the events are held. There is a weekly calender of events posted in the store (picture). If you want to engage in strategy games, this is the place to go. The staff referred to it as sort of a Chess game, but with huge armies. Overall I was impressed with the store and the staff were great, Stan is who I spoke with. I know 90.00 sounds like a lot for a started kit, but the average video game runs 70.00.

It offers a ridiculous escape, and Games Workshop is eager to help and foster that fantasy for you. The staff is very helpful and incredibly knowledgeable about the various products they sell and they talk about the games with such a passion that you'd have no soul if you weren't even the least bit intrigued. Starter Kits for the various games are expensive, but when you breakdown the cost against the hours of entertainment you're going to have I would say that the price is fair. Obviously this kind of thing is not for everybody, but for those who have an interest in sci fi/fantasy or in epic board games such as Risk it is certainly worth a look. There are things up about the store that also refer to Canada as "Turtle Island", which is preachy and a colonizer term (colonists brought maps from above and the "Turtle Island" thing is contentious and offensive to other Indigenous tribes that don't adhere to this term for Canada). I was only able to afford a pinback button (an ace flag, I love ace representation!) and a second-hand Beanie Baby because most of the new merch was so expensive. Friendlier environment than Strange Adventures, and I loved how kind and approachable the staff were. To be fair, this is a somewhat recently-established shop in comparison with its competition, and so the price thing might just be teething troubles, but nobody in this economic climate could afford to buy much here.
