Hired K-Walls to pour about 1400 sq ft of gypcrete over radiant floor heating system in a new home…read moreI am building. We discussed the project over the phone along with the on site conditions. They showed up to do the job without ever inspecting the job site. They dropped off sand that was apparently too wet, mixed the gypcrete too watery and proceeded to fill my basement with gypcrete and destroy many items that were stored there. The level of the "self leveling" gypecrete was 3/4" off from 1 location to another. They told me after the fact that with 1/2" was acceptable. Not sure how that can be on a 1 1/2" pour. When challenged on the quality of the work they shifted the blame to me and refused to repair or replace any of the damaged tools and construction material or reduce the over $8,600 bill for the job. Completely unprofessional. I can't speak to the quality of work on their poured walls since I didn't have them do that but they were critical of the Superior Walls that were already installed. The Superior Walls are quality product and working with them was a pleasure for what ever that is worth.

So, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and say 5 stars for workmanship, but from a value perspective, things erode to 3. I am not sure if there was a mistake made in their estimate for a small job we were looking to have done but on an apples to apples comparison with two other quotes, they were $ 3,800 more in one instance and $5,150 more in the other. Certainly, give them a call, but certainly get several quotes... I can't help but think this was a mistake... though I'll leave it to others to prove me right or wrong.

Initial contract was for a 24'x25' slab for a garage, $1900 for labor,…read morehis estimate was $1700 for materials (to be paid for by me) when he ordered the first load of gravel he underestimated the quantity needed which would have thrown the job out of budget, so we reduced the slab size to 20'x25'. The final cost of materials was 2537.20, over $800 more than his estimate for a smaller slab... The final product was a slab that starting from the high corner was out of level 4 1/2", 6" and 6 1/2" going counter clockwise to the other corners and nothing flat between those points! (obviously, a level was never used on this job!). Also, no footer was put on the adjusted side (going from the 24' to 20' width) or the front. I ended up with an unusable slab, about $900 over his original estimate of cost, with inadequate footers that cracked down the middle within 2 months. (I'm not even sure he ordered the concrete with the fiber like he was supposed to, since you can usually see traces of it on the edges and surface of a slab that it is in.) With trash left behind, a form board half buried left behind, concrete cowpies left in the yard. Completely unprofessional, useless job!

When they didn't show Tuesday I called him so he came in the afternoon. Was a no show Wednesday so we called him and they came in the afternoon. Same on Thursday, said he slept late. Looked right at me and said we will pour you Friday morning. Then when THAT didn't happen he said the same thing Friday night after putting in some cheesy forms and said you will be poured First in Tuesday. You know how this goes by now. His wife said we were too demanding and Jeffrey said Southern Concrete are nothing but liars because he kept using the excuse that they needed to check the job site for their truck. And when we went ahead and called ourselves and they okayed it, he said you can't trust them and you need to record everything they say. Well Southern Concrete gave us a name of another guy who came right out. We dodged a bullet because his forms were wrong with not enough depth and our step was going to be way off. Now we need to sue him for the $1400 for labor not done

Not a man of his word. This was a signed contract. I sued him in court and won the case. My attorney says if we don't hear back from him soon we are going back to court.

Although it took nearly three months from estimate to completion, when it was finally done, the…read moreproduct used seems to be acceptable and the final appearance is good. I will have to say that weather did play a roll in some of the delays, but we have a home business and set four different times aside where we shut down in order to allow for the job to be done and allow for drying. None of those times were met, and I don't feel that in all cases weather was a factor, and revenue was lost. I feel that communication played a big factor. Calls and e-mails were not returned, and when they were, excuses were given to the effect that larger jobs were taking precedence. The folks were nice and indeed personable, but smaller jobs don't seem to be their forte. Again I will say that they did finally finish the job adequately, eventually, which is more than I can say about other companies in the area which never even bothered to return even the initial phone call. I would use them again, but would not hold my breath waiting for the job to get done. By the way, I'm still waiting for a receipt for part of the work that was done and that has been almost a month. I have tried to honest and fair with my review and in no way saying that their work was not good. Just slow and unaccommodating to the customer.

Because of their failure to call me to set up a schedule, and the fact that they did not return my calls, I had to terminate their job. In the end, they charged me 80% for a job that was 60~65% completed. Like many other companies, they are not happy to work on small jobs.
