I've gained about 20 pounds and I haven't been able to take it off and not because I've been trying, but I haven't been motivated to try. So I knew it was time to make a change. I walked in there and met Krystina (I think that's how you spell her name.) She was really friendly and motivating, and we made an appointment for a consultation for the next day (yesterday.) I already knew that if I felt rushed or pushed or if it felt sales-y, then I wasn't going to do it. But she was so nice there was like not only zero pressure it was like minus hundred pressure lol. She seemed like she was mainly interested in getting to know me and find out what my needs were. Struggled through the work that we did together, but she was super motivating and spotted me when I needed it. I will be starting with her next month and I can't wait. I know that this is going to be a transformational journey and I don't mean physically.

I didn't enjoy going and there was definitely nothing keeping me there and I stopped going. I decided earlier this year to give Crunch gym another chance because it's close to my home. I nervously walked in and the manager Trent was at the front. He is such a personable guy. After talking with me a few minutes about a personal training package I thought "why not?". I've never been able to achieve my goals on my own so I figured this was either gonna work or it wasn't. He set me up to meet with Ryan, the manager of the personal training dept. Ryan asked a lot of questions that you'd expect from someone you are about to embark on a personal training routine with. I could tell that Ryan really cared about me and my goals and wanted me to feel comfortable in the gym environment. We talked about the training plan that he would be putting in place for me. He's such a likeable guy and made me feel good about my decision to hire a trainer. Ryan is an amazing asset to this gym! Ryan set me up with trainer Richard, saying he'd be a good fit to reach my goals. Richard is incredible. He is made me feel totally at ease the minute I met him. Since I didn't work out that often, I was nervous that I'd be embarrassed about not knowing how to work the equipment or follow his instructions. But I never felt awkward or weird and Richard is a true professional. So good at his job yet kinda makes you feel like you're talking with a good friend. Probably the biggest surprise is the change in how I interact at the gym. I would usually come in, head down, headphones in, not make eye contact with anybody, do my workout and go home. But the people at Crunch are really wonderful! The front desk always says hello and I'm always greeted by name by Trent, Ryan and Richard. There's at least one, if not all 3, there most of the time. And the rest of the staff is great too! It sounds completely corny but they really make me feel welcome and like they are happy to see me. They talk to me like they've known me awhile, and even sometimes ask my opinion and feedback if I happen to be nearby and they are talking with another client. My only complaints (and reason for only 4 stars) is that several members seem to not know how to respectfully treat the weights and equipment, and sometimes drop the weights heavily to the ground, while others do not sanitize the equipment after they use it. They could also use some updated/ newer equipment.

What can I say about the place that has been my second home since September 2018?…read more I moved to Long Beach in June 2018 and found this special little place right here on Yelp when I was trying to create my own identity outside of being just my boyfriend's girlfriend. To say the Annex has changed mine and my now husband's life would drastically downplay it. There is no where else I would gladly be at at 6:30am except the Annex. Caitlin Hogan has created one of the most inclusive places I've ever spent my time. On days I don't show up for myself, my coach Nic texts me to check in. He is kind, warm, brilliant and loves to make fun of me as much as I love to make fun of him. On days I do show up I know I will always be pushed to be the best version of me by my coaches and classmates, but understood if I just want to sit in silence that day if I'm hurt or going through something. Caitlin also offers meal coaching which has helped get my husband and I in the best shape of our lives (he's lost and kept off 40lbs) and she has shown us the tools on how to continue to take care of ourselves outside of the gym. Caitlin also has taught me how to delay dying with weekly Kinstretch classes. It's a movement enhancement system that develops maximum body control, flexibility and usable range of motion. My body thanks me often when I go regularly and gets mad at me when I take too long of a delay. If you are looking for a new place to work out, look no further. I do warn you, we'll hold you accountable and also want to be your friend, and even hang outside the gym if you're down.

Previously, the…read moreonly working out I did was cardio, and didn't appreciate or understand the importance of weights and core exercises. Therefore, my frustration was that I would do a lot of cardio, such as spinning classes, but I wouldn't see any difference in my body. Training with Roger taught me the importance of balance in a workout routine. This included cardio but pairing it up with weights and core exercises to round out my workout routine. Lack of confidence was a big issue with me where I was worried that I would be judged because I didn't know how to work out correctly. Roger is a great trainer in that he was able to show me how to improve my posture when working out without feeling like I am being judged. Roger's personality is personable, patient, and easy going. He is a professional and it is evident that he has mastered his craft and enjoys training his clients. He does a great job in pushing clients to achieve more in each session but also knows when to pull back by remaining engaged on how the client feels on the day. In the event someone is debating whether or not to work with him, I would encourage them to sign up with Roger. I would explain my hesitation in the beginning, where I was worried whether I would be judged or if I would even learn the routines to see results. Personally, those fears were put to rest from the first session, and I have certainly learned a lot about working out, gained confidence, and have seen the results.
