Zummo's Cafe Moving can always be a stressful moment in life for a college student. A new town, a new school, a new life...there is a lot to process and become acclimated toward. It helps if you can find a hangout that is a bridge. Zachary transferred to Marywood University and he scoped out the town for a good coffee shop for him to connect with. He found Zummo's, and WOW, what a find it was. The place is jammed with unbelievable food. Fresh muffins, quiches, salads and sandwiches. The folks at our table had grilled turkey and cheese with bacon, signature salads with fruit and nuts, and THE BEST CHICKEN SALAD SANDWICHES around on some great whole grain pita. Of course the baked and no baked snacks / sweets abounded as well. And then, the espresso. Enough said. The place is clean and feels warm and inviting. The counter and shop decor are a blend of old world cafe, progressive bakery, and shop for coffee lovers and aficianados - with all of the salable accoutrement you could desire for your home. It is peppered with old photos of the site back in the day when it was a shoe repair shop owned by two brothers. The micro-roasted coffees are wonderful. They use a fine clover brewing process. And, you can even grab beans or ground roasts to take with you as well as fan-ware and mugs. They believe in making things fresh and not skimping on quality. Portions are monstrous and the freshness is noticeably impeccable. I loved the place, the food, the feel. I wish I lived in town so I could try out the soups, and fare everyday. I was between a 3 and 4 stars, but I'm in a generous mood, so... A friend and I thought it might be fun to make a day trip to Scranton, and found Zummo's through Yelp. Having read the previous reviews, I kinda assumed that it would be some kind of a "coffee nirvana." Well the environment is nice and cozy (I think while we were there, every single person who walked in knew somebody in the coffeehouse). The baristas were helpful, and were nice enough to allow my friend to get a small sample of their house best. We both got cappucinos, which were great, but nothing extraordinary, to be honest. We also ordered some bread pudding to share, which really was more like coffee crumb cake than bread pudding. It was yummy either way. Because the coffee didn't quite knock our socks off, we opted not to purchase any coffee roasts for home. But it was a great place, nonetheless. Came back to my hometown after years away and was pleasantly surprised to find such a hip, low key place to relax and drink delicious coffee. I had iced black. It was smooth with the perfect hints of bitterness I enjoy. My cousin got coconut in hers and it was rather refreshing. Great ambiance, great staff, great coffee. Already planning on flying back from Phoenix just to hang out there again. read more

This was a great cafe because the line was never long. The baristas were very quick and the place was relaxed. The food looked good, but I didn't get to try anything other than the vegan chocolate peanut butter volcano cake, which was good but super rich and very vegan-tasting. Cute, authentic cafe with decent fresh and homemade eats. The place had great potential but I feel like my mom and I arrived too early to properly enjoy the establishment. My mom and I were making a trip down to Harrisburg super early in the morning on a Saturday. We ended up arriving right when Zummo's opened at 6:30am. I was in desperate need for a coffee after waking up at 4am so I was looking forward to their various selections. After researching breakfast/coffee places in Scranton, I was excited to try this local business. I was surprised by the number of people there for the time and it still being dark outside. Upon walking in, the baked items looked delicious. Especially the glazed smothered cinnamon buns. Going up to order, the only person manning the place was the cook. Apparently the barista wasn't coming in until 7am. I really wanted a Irish Creme Latte in honor of St. Patrick's Day coming up but the chef did not know how to make it so I would have had to wait until 7 to get it... I didn't hold this against them since I saw a help wanted sign and figured they were understaffed. My mom and I each ended up with a Chai Tea Latte, which I thought was very good. It had a nice balance of sweetness and spice. My mom and I decided to try their ham, tomato and cheese quiche and a raspberry scone to split. The quiche, unfortunately, was cold even though it was freshly made by the cook. I wish it was heated up a little but the I felt bad with how much the woman was rushing to be too concerned with it. It had great flavor though with plenty of ham and tomatoes and it was a decent size slice for about $5. You could tell with the scone that the raspberries were fresh and the taste of it was delicious. Although, the bottom was burnt which ruined it a little, it turned out fine. Overall, I think this place had great potential and I hope to give it another chance in the future. The place itself was cute and homey with friendly staff. read more

I heard about this place from a friend and found myself in love. They still use Electric City Roasting coffee beans and they have a ton of options for drip and espresso coffee. They have organic roasts and all varieties of roast intensities. The food is made daily in small batches and I wasn't lucky enough to get the quiche I wanted but did get the sweet potato and black bean soup which was great. They also have an amazing range of desserts so don't get too full!! The place is actually big so don't be fooled by the outside. Good local artwork for sale on the walls! A great find. read more

Best cafe ever. I'm not a professional coffee drinker per say however I am a coffeeholic. My body literally craves only Zummo's coffee which is not a predicament I would wish on anyone, especially if you don't live in PA as a regular. Zummos is a very cute place! I went for breakfast on a Sunday with my sister. I got a coffee and a sausage egg and cheese sandwich. My sister got a pumpkin latte and a cup of oatmeal. They have a huge menu with many unique items including a lot of gluten free and vegan foods. They also have a great selection of coffees. The coffees my sister and I got were amazing as well as her oatmeal. However, I wasn't to found of my sandwich. It was very bland and was not hot when they serviced it to me. The sandwiches are pre-made and on display but they could do a better job of heating before serving. I will definitely be back to try some of their other items because so many things looked great! read more

I've been coming to zummos for a few years. I have to say their food and coffee has gone a bit south so to speak. Today I had the salad with black beans and chick peas. The ingredients were ok, but It was pretty bland and the dressing had little flavor. The soup was basil parm. It was filled with a ton of elbow noodles and very bland. I didn't even finish it. Their food could use a bit more flavor. It all sounded good, but the end product was lacking. As far as the coffee? It was bitter and burnt tasting, and it should have been much more velvety and smooth. I'm an avid fan of electric city roasting and buy the beans and grind it myself and I've never had a bad cup until today. I'm assuming it's not the beans. I hope it gets a little better because I used to love it here! read more

They post it on Facebook several days a week but for me a lot of the combinations are really hit or miss. I don't understand how this place could possibly have more than 3 stars. For starters, the way they even take your order is inefficient at best, two girls stand around doing nothing while one girl makes your entire order, which you will have to repeat when you go to pay. The strawberry banana smoothie would have been good for heating and putting on pancakes and little else. The raw veggie hummus wrap contained about 1/10 of the amount of hummus it should have and mostly all I ended up eating was a soggy sams choice vomit green tortilla. DO NOT GO HERE. Some lady cut us in line, and when I mentioned it to the barista she just said sorry but continued to help the lady who cut us. Then we ordered a single and double latte which should be a 16 oz and a 20 oz respectively but we both got 16 oz. I called later to ask about the sizing and they were incredibly rude saying I didn't know what I was talking about even though I have worked in a coffee shop before. Will not go here ever again and will tell everyone I know not to go here because they do not know how to make coffee. read more

As a former Batista Extraordinare and coffee lover, I can't believe I just discovered Zummo's. The coffee's phenomenal and the atmosphere is great. It's my favorite place to take a time-out during my work day. They also have candy and treats (i.e. plastic baggies of Sweedish Fish and a big chocolate chip cookie jar near the register), so it's a win-win. Their coffee is PERFECT in a French press. read more

Husband and I used to love coming here and would do so several times a week. For the past year or so everything has gone downhill. There are still a few solid employees, but mostly not. The service is mediocre on a good day and today marks the millioneth time we have been given our order without food we paid for - which I suppose we should have double checked so maybe it's our fault for thinking they would be on top of it. Such a shame that this is happening. Have heard (and tasted) how a lot of the coffee/specialty drinks have been tasting burnt more often as well. Used to come here a lot when the previously owners had it. It's not the same. I ordered a bacon cheddar scone 3.50 it wasn't good i don't think the batter was mixed. Desserts and sandwich don't look nearly as appetizing as the used to. In the past few weeks I was charged three different prices for a refill of coffee. $1.00, $2.25, $2.50. On a hot day I was in the back room it was warm I checked the thermostat it was Off and room temp was at 77. I asked the counter girls they said they aren't allowed to touch it. Coffee is still good ( only because the buy from previous owner). But it's not the places to sit and enjoy something to eat. Lovely coffee shop with generous seating. It feels like a house, open for friends, though perhaps it started as a shoe-repair shop. Which is what the photos on the wall with the name ZUmmo's suggest. Here's my actual experience after the first visit. My left semi-butt got tired from seating and napping on the couch, so I did yoga on the porch. I had a lovely chat with Honduran and Peruvian students from Marywood, who guarded my bag during yoga. There was a bike rack to park my bike. View outside: kids playing basketball, then ladies parking and heading for the Mission Yoga nearby. Quiche was amazing. Coffee was yummy. I got work done. Its a cozy eclectic place that has a lot of history. Love the neighborhood location across from the elementary school. I enjoy the dairy free food options when they are available and the service is good, however I wish their beans were fresher. I couldn't find any bags of their signature Zumo's city roast beans that were not three weeks or older on my visit a week ago. I've been pleased with most of the pour overs. About a year ago Clover sold their state-of-the-art coffee brewing machine to Starbucks. Until that point, only around 150 of the brewing systems were sold worldwide to cafes and coffee enthusiasts - Zummo's Cafe owns one of them. For this reason, Zummo's is on the coffee map. Zummo's sells coffee roasted by their sister company, Electric City Roasting. Every week Zummo's offers about six or seven different coffees to be brewed via Clover. Do yourself a favor and TRY CLOVER COFFEE. It may, very well, change your life - even if you don't drink coffee. The Clover coffee system brews coffee like nothing else. They also offer typical espresso and desert drinks as well as a great breakfast and lunch menu. Most everything at Zummo's is homemade, and, boy, can you taste it. Safe go-to's are the chicken salad wrap (has cranberries) and the breakfast sandwich. Make sure to see what homemade soup is offered that day - it's a good size for your money and is usually very tasty. Zummo's cares very much about coffee - ask if any coffee cuppings are being offered soon. They normally hold free cuppings once a week. read more
