we came on the 2 hour wine tasting here in the vinotecque - it was worth every penny! guillaume was our sommelier and he was fantastic - very informative, friendly and charming. the room the wine tasting was in was absolutely beautiful. we tried 1 champagne and 5 wines and i thought they were all great. not all the wines were to everyone round the tables tastes, which just proves that i am the ultimate wino and will love them all! you can order wine and cheese plates to go with the wine if you so choose. we didn't, but the tables were piled high with plentiful french baguettes so all that wine won't go right to your head. the 2 hour wine tour begins at 5pm which is the perfect time for a 2 hour tasting - finishing at 7pm you can head to the beautiful bar area, which has a fantastic atmosphere and try some of their wines by the glass. they have over 40 so a lot to choose from! they do also offer food but we decided to try somewhere else for dinner after we eventually decided to move on. i wouldn't hestitate to recommend this to any wine lover - it's such an enjoyable way to spend an early evening, tasting and learning about wines, and possibly meeting new friends who are also on the wine tasting with you (there was about 13 people on our session). next time in paris i will definitely consider doing this again. don't forget they offer you 10% discount on any wines or champagnes purchased after the tastings. read more

O-Chateau provided a wonderful experience for my partner and I. We experienced the wine dinner, and it turned into a dinner party with new friends from around the globe. Four wines were expertly introduced and explained, paired with food to complement them. Two items made it so I could not give this five stars, our reservation had been bumped by one night , and the host did not have a record, thankfully I had the e-mail. The team could do a better job communicating with each other. While the for was good, it took nearly an hour between the first and second courses. The evening was memorable for the new friends, great wine, good food and one of the other guests ended the evening by proposing. All in all a great experience that I would recommend. read more

We decided to do the wine tasting class. It was just okay ... Nothing special. Learned a few tips about French wines but nothing more than what you can quickly google and read on the internet. You do not walk out feeling like you understand how to consume French wines any more than when you walked in. Sadly, you could have gone to any wine store and purchased half the bottles we tasted for the same price as the class. I took my mom to the intro wine tasting for her birthday on Sept 20 2010 and it was amazing! We had a great time, met a lot of people, and even learned a little about wine ;) Our sommelier was great, funny, and full of information, I swear he knew everything about every kind of wine. If you're in Paris and like wine, I'd recommend this class to you, you won't be disappointed. As Americans in Paris I must say the service was EXTREMELY friendly. Everyone spoke English and explained the wines/champagnes to us carefully. I would wholeheartedly recommend this place. This was really worth the visit. Perhaps it seems like a touristy place to go but hey, I AM a tourist! No shame in my game. This place was super cool with a ridiculous assortment of wines in the bar area. The tasting itself was done in a private room and the sommelier was so entertaining and the entire staff was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. We actually loved the feel of the place so much that we went back a few days after the tasting just to have a glass at the bar. Highly recommend! If you're not super familiar with wine, make this one of your first stops on the trip. It'll help prepare you for the overwhelming wine choices you'll encounter at every dinner in Paris because you must drink wine...it's too cheap and delicious there to waste your time with water! read more

The sommelier was funny and VERY well informed although sometimes it was a bit too much information : ) I learned lots of fun facts, how to expertly evaluate a glass of wine, and amazing "wine snob" phrases to use on my friends......"It's extravagant without being vulgar"; "It has a flinty je ne said quois". Had a 3 course dinner with wine pairing Friday night. We arrived around 6:40pm for our 7pm reservation. We were promptly seated, then felt abandoned for about 20 minutes. Restaurant was less than half full. Finally, a server came by, service was slow. Ordered Brie cheese w/ truffle flavored ham, but ham was over flavored w/ truffles. Sautéed mushrooms were steamed and bland. Aged beef steak was ordered medium, but was medium rare and bland. Side dish of mustered mash potatoes was also very bland. 3 course meal took 2 1/2 hours, wine selections were just okay. We came to this restaurant about 2 years ago, food and service has declined. Will look for another place to go to. read more

Went last night (5/19/11). I live in Paris and have gone to several wine bars. This by far is stupendous. My impressions, #1 it is quite large for Paris, and when you go to the wine cellar and special tasting, it's enormous, well laid out, so the place when compared to other wine bars, is really above the rest. #2 the wines, wow, they were laid out above the counter, very orderly and Oliver the owner is quite versed on the various wines. Selection was enormous. It is pricey, but you're not going there to get sloshed, your going there to taste particular wines, and comparison to the other wine bars, his prices are very, very reasonable! Highly recommend it. And, if you don't speak French, no worries, Oliver's English is excellent, he use to live in the US... read more

My husband and I took an impromtu trip to Paris for five days during a three month stint in the UK. With very little time to plan and my broken French we had to just wing it. Some of our best trips are made up of stumbling upon places and people unintentionally. Finding O Chateau was definitely a hightlight of our time in Paris. Though they are known for their user friendly wine classes for novices and afficiandoes alike, we decided to just spend some time at the bar and drink our way through the list. With the help of the very knowlegdgable and easy going bartender Max and the young Parisian owner Olivier, we ended up staying for four hours chatting, learning and enjoying some of the best French wine I've tasted. We also indulged in a charcuterie plate and enjoyed the combination of delicious French cheeses and meats and how they are enhanced by the wine. The atmosphere is charming and comfortable and for Americans who aren't yet fluent in the beautiful French language, the staff accomodated us well without an ounce of pretention. We are heading back to Paris in a month and will most definitely bring our friends to O Chateau for a night of great wine, good company in a beautiful, beautiful city. read more

This is a great wine bar to try a variety of French wines. I recently visited Paris with a friend and we haven't tried very many French wines before. Our waiter was extremely friendly and knowledgable. He was also American which made it very easy to communicate. We each tried a shared a flight of wine so we could try as many as possible. Then we ordered a glass of our favorites. The prices are very reasonable. The waiter took his time explaining a lot about each wine and we really enjoyed coming to the bar. Definitely stop by for a glass or two! We also booked a champagne boat cruise on the Seine through this company. The website says it includes 3 glasses of champagne but the guide gave us more like 6. He was also very informative about the wines & gave a laid back tour of Paris. This was 100 times better than the other boat cruise we did because it was private and enclosed. If I come back to Paris I will definitely come back to the wine bar or book an excursion with O! read more

The wine they pour is exceptional -- we even tasted a 1996 Chateau Margeaux -- but what made this experience so memorable was the people who worked there. No one is pretentious or makes you feel stupid if you don't know anything about wine, and we all learned a lot by the end. It was so much fun that we went back the next day. Do it. read more

Great spot for taking an irreverent but informative tour of French wine. The Tour de France of wines includes 5 wines and a champagne, along with a very informative 2 hour presentation by a sommelier. Richard did an outstanding job for us and answered some long standing questions we had about French wines in ways that completely made sense and didn't make us feel foolish. We learned a lot, the wines were fantastic, and Richard kept the whole room laughing for 2 hours. I give presentations for a living so I get fussy about these things.... Great job! read more

This is a great place to go if you want to try some terrific wines, eat some great food, and also mingle with Americans (its a common place for foreigners to go). The food is well cooked, and just good. Nothing out of this world great. Its a bit on the expensive side (the food that is).
