Our waiter clearly appreciated our effort in communicating in French and it wasn't long before we were getting language lessons. It was a chilly day, so authentic French onion soup fit the bill. We added an Italian salad (lettuce, prosciutto, ham, etc.) we'd call it an antipasto, they call it a salad. Either way, it was very good. The soup? Just perfect. This restaurant was in a great and busy location. After walking so much from the Paris Catacombs and the Notre Dame Cathedral, we decided to stop by here for lunch. Since it was a gorgeous day, we sat at the outdoor area. Our server came to greet and gave us the menus, and took our orders right away. We waited quite awhile for our dishes to be served. Our server was nowhere in site and when we tried asking another staff, they told us that it wasn't their area. They were pretty territorial with their service. We ordered: CHICKEN CAESAR SALAD, CROQUET MADAME, CROQUET MONSEUR and SPAGHETTI BOLOGNA. I liked the salad, it was delicious. The rest of our orders were just alright. Nothing really impressed us. Effectively a tourist trap with mediocre-at-best food catering to mostly Americans. If that's your thing, fantastic, but Paris has FAR better to offer. We knew this going in, but our 6-year-old son was starving. He's a super picky eater and we were pleased to see they offered fries. Basics can go a long way. But wait, there's more... Our waiter was actually quite nice on the surface, and for the most part service was attentive. I had the Quiche Lorraine. It was meh. My wife got the Crepes Chantilly, which she shared with our daughter. They were among the worst crepes I've ever had in Paris. And, of course, my son just got fries, which was all he would eat. He liked them. Decent service notwithstanding, when we received our bill we noticed something funny. "ASS FRITES" was listed as one of our items. You don't need to know much French to understand what was meant by that. What's frustrating is, even if it's in jest, I couldn't stand that the waiter treated us one way, yet clearly he and/or the establishment itself has a certain perspective about yet another group of Americans ordering fries. Look, if you're going to be such snobs about serving food that's apparently beneath you, then (1) don't run a tourist trap restaurant in the first place, (2) don't serve fries at all, let alone to children, and (3) serve dishes of at least basic quality, and which are minimally representative of the cuisine for which your country is supposedly renowned. At least then you'd have something to explain your attitude toward people that were otherwise excited to visit a country that, at that time (April 2022), was clearly still reeling from the drop in the very tourism you seem to scoff at. As we were strolling in the area, we stumbled upon this corner restaurant for dinner. We chose to sit under the patio where we could people watch --it's a very popular thing to do around here, especially on this busy corner. Even though we encountered some rain halfway into our dinner, we were luckily sheltered by the tent. To start, the four of us got a bottle of Medoc wine (€24.00). For the main course, I ordered the Carbonara (€12.60) while the rest of my table ordered the Preserved Duck and Frites (€14.90), Grilled Beef Ribeye (€21.00), and Steak with Pepper Sauce and Frites (€15.50). Although all the other dishes were good choices, I could not be happier about my carbonara. It was cheesy, creamy, and topped perfectly with an egg! Despite this place being on a popular intersection where many find tourist traps, I truly enjoyed my meal here. The food was great and in a lovely environment too. I ordered the crepe breakfast which came with orange juice, coffee/tea, and both bread and croissant with jam. The food came out almost instantly; literally under five minutes! The crepe was awesome, the croissant was light and flaky, and the Orange juice tasted freshly squeezed. This is a cute typical Parisian cafe overlooking the beautiful Saint Michel square in Paris's Latin Quarter. It features inside and outside seating, but we opted for tables overlooking Saint Michel both times that we were there. We were tourists on foot so I have no idea of what parking may be available. The service was very European; direct and to the point and without too much pleasantry and with minimal interaction. The menu was pretty extensive, and featured some special plates as well as a full bar. Pricing was on par with similar establishments. We visited similar cafes during our trip to Paris, but none came close. Highlights of the menu are the Beef Bourguignon, the Veal Milanese, the onion soup, the baguette sandwiches, and the crepes. We were not very fond of the steaks, but mid-priced steaks in Europe never measure up to their US counterparts. Overall, this restaurant is a good affordable option when out and about in Paris and not wanting to spend a lot of time and money on a meal. This place is located just across the Seine (to the south) from Sainte-Chapelle, and close to Notre Dame as well. We had actually come to the area after touring both of those nearby sites earlier, in search of an Asian fusion burger place. It turned out to be more burger than fusion, so we kept looking. This was just up the block. It is on a busy corner with a Metro station entrance just outside. They have interior and sidewalk/patio dining available. The menu seemed fairly typical of Paris cafes (from limited experience). Prices were a bit high, but I imagine their rent here is as well. The biggest plus was the convenience factor. We were able to grab a quick meal and continue on to another museum. I believe two of us had different types of sandwiches (both baguette-based) and the third had a pasta dish (served with an egg). My sandwich was a veggie, and it wasn't bad. However, it wasn't something I'd order that often. No one disliked their food or left hungry; it just lacked any extra 'wow' factor. One of the many nice cafes in Paris. It's very close to Notre Dame so we passed by several times before deciding to visit. The restaurant has been open 24/7 for the past 40 years or so, I can't remember the exact number or years but it's pretty popular. The nice thing about this cafe is that there's a cab stand right on the sidewalk which is very convenient for tourists that want to eat and go. Having wifi was a big plus as well. We ordered a bunch of different items in our group. I ordered the cheese and cold cut platters. The cheese in Paris is phenomenal and the bread that comes with it is very fresh and soft. The cold cut platter is called the ham platter but it has everything you'd want to pair up with cheese. I really liked the salami and fresh butter that came with the bread so I alternated between the two. The wait staff was very helpful but as they say, don't expect quick service in Paris. They don't rush through meals as servers do in the US. It's more of an event than quick bite. Besides, you don't want to rush when you're sitting on the sidewalk and taking in the sights. read more
