Until the age of two, we were able to nurture his love of creativity through art, get him engaged in reading and music, and keep him active and independent while learning at home, but his social-emotional growth needed a community like Modern Schoolhouse to truly develop. We met another family at his favorite playground that had an AMAZING experience at Modern Schoolhouse and their daughter, who was academically gifted and raised with similar philosophies, was thriving under their care. We enrolled and discovered for ourselves that Modern Schoolhouse was indeed an absolute gem for child development. Our son entered after turning two, and he was very shy/reserved at the time. The talking, dancing, singing, bilingual artist that blew us away with his funny ideas and love of learning at home, needed help expressing himself in the larger group. Over the next several years, Leonardo was able to grow and thrive his ability to emotionally self-regulate, from having a 'safe space' at home to being able to identify what he was feeling and how to 'calm his body,' to listening to others and respecting common space. What we didn't anticipate was not just the top quality of the school, the clean aesthetic spaces, and the exceptional teachers (Teacher Alicia from class 3 was truly amazing!!), but also the like minded and kind community that became a key part of our son's social life. During our son's first years at home, we studied Montessori, Waldorf, and Reggio Emilia- instituting some principles of each in our approach at home. It wasn't until we met Sue and her philosophies at Modern Schoolhouse did we see some of these same philosophies embodied in an American child care setting; and we must have interviewed or toured at 5 or more local schools before finding Modern Schoolhouse. The core beliefs consist of the idea that children are competent, capable, curious individuals with hundreds of ways of self expression. The role of the school and family should be creating a structured, clean, and aesthetic environment that is conducive stimulating exploration and discovery. Teachers in this sense guide and foster collaboration rather than just 'delivering information.' Giving our son a new challenge was hard at first, but Sue and her staff were quick to offer suggestions and outside resources so we could reinforce some lessons at home, especially around his development of social/emotional skills like managing anger, dealing with disappointment, and learning to communicate when he needed space. He also was given the chance to learn how to build relationships and have positive interactions with new friends. Each 'season' and month had different themes that would be clearly delivered in monthly/quarterly emails along with chances to meet with teachers on child progress in key development areas of language, tracing, use of scissors, how to put on shoes/jackets, counting, class participation/listening, and emotional self expression. By class 3 (3 years old and above), our son was giving 'show and tell' presentations, using the 'sharing bee' to discuss their weekend, and playing inventive games to stimulate imagination and curiosity. Through the use of brightwheel, we were always shown photos and videos of our son having fun with friends and doing some fun activity. The school also offered many events at the school such as the "annual art show," "parent and me" day, and music sessions from Teacher Gaia culminating in a student led music performance (the cutest!). This year all the 4 classes made their own animal costumes and acted out various Disney themes. It was extraordinary to see him flourish and thrive under Teacher Alicia in class 3, who is truly remarkable for her ability to connect to kids and meet them where they are on the journey. By the end he was more confident in his presentations and even singing his favorite Disney songs Karaoke style to the class! Everything ended on a wonderful note with his graduation and small speech to parents and the graduating class. We were given an opportunity for a graduation photoshoot and his 'family book' with messages from all of the teachers as a keepsake that he created during his time there. As he graduated before many of the others in class 3, everyone created a special hand painted art for him with with the handprints of all his friends. It is bittersweet to go onto the next chapter, but he graduated school scoring high in every single metric of development, and he easily was interviewed and accepted into an international private school. Initially, we had some concerns about starting him so young, but it quickly became clear that enrolling him early was the right choice. He is truly thriving--emotionally, mentally, and intellectually. The curriculum at TMS is incredibly well thought out. Each activity clearly connects to the weekly or daily theme, and we've seen real growth in our son's development. He's starting to learn the alphabet and has become much more verbal since he began. What stands out even more is how happy our child is at TMS. Every photo we receive through the app shows him smiling, and we always feel confident dropping him off, knowing he's in caring and capable hands. The teachers, staff, and owner (Sue) are exceptional. Our son absolutely adores his teachers and lights up when we mention their names in the morning. Even though he's usually very attached to us, he was so excited to see his teacher at the Annual Art Show that he practically leaped from my arms to greet her. That kind of connection is exactly what every parent hopes for in a school: a place where your child feels loved and supported. On top of all this, the school is extremely clean. Our son has hardly been sick, and we've noticed how attentive the staff is to hygiene--little ones always have their noses wiped, diapers changed very frequently and the environment is clearly well-maintained. TMS is far beyond a typical daycare--it's a place where our child is growing, learning, and genuinely happy.

Everyday they explore, play, discover, laugh and learn more than ever. The kids are going to school with a smile and coming home even happier. At little Stars, they have beautiful spaces (a community garden where they grow veggies, a beach playground, so many ateliers) and loving teachers. Unfortunately the school had to close for a few weeks because of COVID. They reopened 19 weeks ago, with new safety mesures and since then no one has been sick. Kids even don't realize there is a new protocol. So Mrs Darlene, Mr Louie, the teachers, thank you so much for making the school like normal, with running, hugging, laughing, learning children. We will always be thankful!

During the time my son attended the school, he came home several times with scratches and bite marks that I had never been told about. I usually found them during bath time, and whenever I asked what had happened, no one could give me an explanation. One teacher, in particular, seemed to make my son very anxious. He would cry whenever he saw her. One day he came home with blood on his clothes, and I was told he had fallen. As a mom, that really worried me and made me question the level of supervision. I also noticed changes in my son's behavior while he was attending the school. He became more irritable, his eating habits changed, and he started hitting his older brother, which was completely out of character for him. I can't say what caused those changes, but I noticed them during the time he was there, and they concerned me. Even after we left the school, whenever we drove past it, he would often become upset and say, "Mommy, I don't want to go to that school." Seeing that broke my heart. It took me a long time to help him feel like himself again. Every child and every family's experience may be different. This was simply ours, and as a mother, I felt it was important to share it so other parents can make the decision they believe is best for their own children.

OMC Preschool & Kindergarten is not the first preschool/daycare that my daughter has attended in…read morektown. As of today, my older daughter has been here for 2 years and my younger one 1 year. The 1st daycare that my daughter went to is a bit scary. There was no security guard at the front entrance. During the 1st week of me picking her up, she ran out of school by herself and the teachers didn't even notice that she left the building until I brought her back in to pick up her bookbag. Here at OMC Preschool/Kindergarten, they have security guards 24/7 around the campus. The 1st person that greets me every day as I pulled in to the parking lot is a security guard. Maybe it's just me, but security is an important issue that every preschool should address. Along with the security guard, there are several other maintenance/cleaning personnel working @ Church during school hours. The Preschool is separated from the church. You have to walk through the sanctuary to get to the preschool. On to the best part about this daycare, the teachers are extremely loving and caring to all of the kids. On top of that, unlike the previous daycare that my older daughter attended, all the parents here would say hi and greet each other. I'm not Korean and I love the fact that other Korean parents that are not fluent in English would still try and converse with me. Bottom line, my wife and I have done our due diligence in finding the best daycare for our little ones. Unfortunately, we had to go through the process twice. To all the parents out there that are looking for a daycare in or near the ktown area, this is it. I don't know any other daycare that is able to drop their kids off at 7:30 AM and pick up their kids as late as 6:00 without any extra charges/penalties. Not that my kids are there from 7:30 AM to 6:00 pm but we do live in LA and we all know that LA traffic can be unpredictable.

We initially toured many different daycare schools around koreatown but decided on Kinderschule because of Director Kim. Her words gave us a sense of trust that even our baby who cries around new people and is very picky with food will adjust to school with no problem and to trust their process. Those are the words I wanted to hear from any teacher at school. I loved that they sent home pictures with a daily journal of how many diapers and how much they ate. Of course my baby didn't eat the gourmet korean food right away but he soon got adjusted and ate korean soup with rice and side dishes along with his friends. It took Hayden 4 months to really separate from us and wave bye to us when we dropped him off but in this whole process all the teachers have been so patient and so understanding. I loved the curriculum they have at this school which is one of the reasons why we chose Kinderschule. From cooking class to kuku gym class. All their activities are hands on and so creative. I really wanted my baby to experience and join in on the activities. The field trips are also something I liked about their curriculum. My son loved talking about the activities he did at school. It has been a full year and we are sad to leave such an amazing school because we are moving but I can't say enough good things about this amazing school and staff and would definitely recommend it to any mamas in LA looking for a trustworthy school. My son has grown so much since attending. His personality and speaking and interacting with peers are exactly what we were expecting from attending this school and he even learned some Spanish too! I love the structure with open space, holistic approach to teaching, they also have lots of helpful information for parents in the community. They plan field trips for the children, gardening, trilingual, martial arts, and more. They are always improving the curriculum and trying new things. School is also exploring food options to ensure the littles have a varied and healthy diet. Parents can be involved to volunteer sometimes which is nice to be able to watch your child interact with others. The building is secure and gated. Overall super happy we found a clean, safe and friendly place.

I feel so much appreciation for the level of dedication, understanding, care, and patience the staff displayed through out our time here. I can't recommend this place enough. They offer a very affordable Montessori curriculum. There is a room dedicated to Montessori materials where they practice their rug work daily. The school also offers a wide variety of extracurricular activities from piano, taekwondo, ballet, hip-hop choreography--all at very reasonable prices! AND tuition includes hot lunches. We moved out of LA county because things were just getting so crazy there and that unfortunately meant we had to switch daycares/schools. The teachers and kids have had such a lasting impact on my children that they still recall them fondly ever so often to this day. The kids are very well looked after here. There is a bit of a language barrier, but I have never felt like any of my concerns were unheard or not considered. Also, it is worth noting that the school is part of a church and, although we are not particularly religious ourselves, we did like the moral foundation that it set in our children. LA First is truly a wonderful school that puts the children first and let's children BE children. If we could, we would still have them there. We miss you all so much!

I started my daughter here a year ago and she's also been thriving. By this point, the staff here feel like a part of my extended family. They have been so good to my children. Some updates on basic info: - open now from 8am to 6pm - as of Sept 2016 tutition is $1100 (extra $100 if not potty trained) -phone number listed is wrong. correct number: 213-674-7281 When my daughter started preschool last summer, she was 2.5 yo and did not really speak any Korean. She understood some but would always speak in English to us. After 3 months of preschool she was so fluent! And now a year later, she sounds like she belongs in a K-drama. ;) I find this so amazing because at home our predominant language is English (my hubs is not Korean). Something else I didn't mention in the previous review is their summer programming. They always do fun themes in the summer. For example, water fun week -- water slides, playing in "rain" with umbrellas, playing in kiddie pools. They also had world travel week where they "visited" different countries around the world. The teachers actually made little passports (that looked pretty real and must have taken a lot of effort to make!) and air plane boarding passes to these different countries. They made cuisine from the different countries for students to try and would stamp their passports as they "visited" each place. (FYI -- Summer is not the only time they do fun stuff like this.) One year they took the kids "camping"...in their play yard. They pitched tents and made s'mores. The kids had such a blast! The staff really tries hard to make school fun for the kids and I love them for trying so hard. It's now been 4 years since I first sent my son here and now I am on my second kid who is on her second year here and I definitely still recommend it to everyone who messages me to ask about preschools.

She comes home daily and it feels like she's just taking leaps in her learning, but more importantly they also balance the socialization as well. We've had a few play dates with other parents of her class and it's been amazing. We just had our son and I'm truly excited for him to go to Young Ye when he's ready. I highly recommend.

The principal, director, and teachers are all incredibly wonderful and treat each child with sooo much care. The school provides 3 meals - breakfast, lunch, early dinner along with a snack every day which I am so grateful for. The school has a great curriculum and they also have fun activities for the kids and send photos when they can. Today was painting day and the children wore these cute aprons!

After a year at Agape, his reading, writing, and arithmetic skills improved tremendously. His transition into public school was seamless because Agape had prepared him very well.
