I recently found out that the drivers share in the fees they collect so their motivation is to charge you as much as possible. After posting my review I received a call from the new local franchise manager. He apologized and admitted that what his workers did by attempting to add $500 to the bill was wrong. . He was the 3rd manager I spoke to. The previous 2 completely supported their drivers. At least he admitted that their practice of not disclosing fees and letting the workers share in the overbilling is wrong. He promised to reimburse me $110 Of course nothing has happened. A few weeks ago we needed some items hauled and called this company. They said that they needed to come out for an estimate. Their employees came over and gave us a very high estimate which we didn't accept. This is when things got super sketchy, they then went outside and sat in their truck while a closer called us offering to do the job after reducing the price by about 80%. We are sure this technique is perfectly legal, but it's very unethical in our opinion. We eventually had another fully insured and bonded company do the job for less than 1- 800's "discounted" price. Called 1-800-GOT-JUNK , I have used them e and the prices were OK , had an appointment today , I had a small amount of trash to be be removed . 2, 4' x 2' X 2' , 1/4 inch wood boxes with lids . 3 folding chairs and 2 small girl's bicycles. The wooden boxes were empty The first quote I got was a range , which I don't understand because they were standing there looking at the job . $345.00 - $425.00 . I was shocked , I know what the previous minimum is and it should have been $180.00 . I told them I would not pay over the minimum, he said I call my boss , he then came back with $250.00 and said the minimum for today was $198.00 . This company has now become like siding salesmen quoting numbers that are high as hell to get people to pay more . I previously used 1-800 Got Junk 3 or 4 years ago to get rid of some old furniture and was satisfied with both their pricing and service. Today I called them to dispose of tree trimming & smaller branches from an elm which lost a large branch last night (a couple of our neighbors were kind enough to cut it into reasonable size pieces). The good thing was that 1-800 responded quickly on a Sunday morning with only 2-3 hours between initial contact and their arrival. What I was disappointed about was their pricing--- they initially quoted me $2500; when I pushed back and indicated I'd look elsewhere, they dropped the quote to $1300. They removed most of the downed branches and leaves but I don't think they made any effort to compress the load so we're left with some residual mess to clean up; I'll have a tree trimmer dispose of that when they come out to lighten the load on the tree. The pricing discussion is what disturbs me. --- a 48% reduction following mild pushback from me. I guess my 46 years in management spoiled me. For a small job like this, be prepared to make your best & final offer your initial offer and don't expect me to haggle. I'll look elsewhere in the future. read more

Upfront Estimate is just that, an estimate, not a final price. I had to decline service after they were shady and tried to rip me off. If you're having them take construction or yard debris, they add on a "bedload" charge for the weight. And, in my case, they'll change the estimated volume after they've already loaded it up, My experience: I had about 15 cu.ft of broken up concrete, 2 storage bins of old clothes, and a broken office chair. The guy who gave the estimate said "bedload charge of $350 because it's chunks of concrete, and a volume charge of 1/4 truck at $498, that includes the $350." I asked him to clarify that the $350 was included in the $498, and he said yes. I thought that meant my total would be $498. When they finished loading everything up, he came back to the door, said that it came out to half a truck instead of a quarter, and gave me a new total of more than $900. With the stuff they already had in the truck my stuff brought it up to half a truck. The miscommunication on the exact total I didn't like but I could've lived with. But changing the estimate is bad, and changing it to something that is incorrect is why I'll never use them. I'm throughly disgusted! I would recommend they generate a hard number upfront, and either charge upfront, or print it out or email to the customer. read more
