This dog park was recommended to me when I moved to Fairview. It's a large dog park with lots of areas to roam and there are berry plants everywhere! Anyways walked with my dog during the summer, can't imagine freezing and walking my dog here at the moment but when I did go, it was beautiful and serene and filled with dogs of all kinds. There was a little stream that I noticed the larger dogs hung out in and my little dog and I set for an adventure. Got lost a few times and met other dog owners as well. One of the best dog parts I've ever been to. It's a good 30 minute drive but definitely worth it. There are trails that lead in multiple directions so it is easy to get lost unless you have a map on your phone. However, a lot of the trails loop around so if you keep going, you'll eventually get back to where you started. There's a river that your pups can go swimming in and lots of open areas for them to run around. I definitely recommend this place for your pups! read more

If you can do the drive, or live local, this is the dog park to end all dog parks. Spacious, wild, lots of trails and water, your pup will love it. Haven't had a bad experience here with bad owners (you know what I mean), but some don't obey the leash areas, but again, haven't seen a bad owner or pup here, and we go a lot. That's my take on the general good times. The things that need some work or are just the way it is here are picking up after your fur baby. Nobody needs poop on a trail. And the parking is what it is, if you don't get there before 8 am on a weekend, you may not get a parking spot, as this place is busy. WARNING ALL DOG PARENTS We love this place, but last week (November 2025) my dog ran off to play and must have eaten some dead salmon or drank some contaminated water. A few days ago he got extremely sick (lethargic, anorexic, depressed) and it turns out he has salmon poisoning (Neorickettsia Helminthoeca). We haven't taken him to the river anywhere besides here recently so he 100% got it from drinking water or eating a fish out of the Columbia river that he found at Thousand Acres Dog Park. It is extremely FATAL if not treated and can cause major damage to their brain, liver, kidneys etc. Salmon poisoning is a potentially fatal parasitic infection that can occur in dogs in the Portland area after they eat raw or undercooked salmon or trout that contains a specific flatworm. Salmon poisoning is very prevalent this time of year in the PNW so please spread the word & share this with your friends in the area. We love the park, but keep a CLOSE eye on your dog and if they get sick get a fecal test ASAP and test for this fatal parasite. Update on our Fee : his fever was 105.8 last night (dangerously high) and today it is 102.7 (only .1 degrees over fever limit). The antibiotics seem to be working and he's getting a dewormer tonight. Great place to walk your dog off leash! Beautiful land and safe for timid dogs since there's so much room to walk!

This is such a fun place to bring your dog, just ensure they have a bit of recall! Or are a Velcro dog (like mine) and will come back to you periodically to ensure you didn't abandon them! Your dog does not have to be off leash, but know that there will be more dogs that are off then on. Rainy season has a few downsides, lots of mud and puddles - though I just prepare to wash my dog afterwards every time and let him have fun! Otherwise, there are a few months out of the year where the trail nearest the river is riddled with mosquitos. You can avoid them if you avoid the area. I think it costs about 7 bucks to park there for the day, though I've heard plenty of people don't pay and have never been towed... I haven't tested my luck yet! It's easiest if you use their website and pay on your way or before you leave. They don't have any kiosks to pay there and the service can be really bad if not nonexistent. I have four out of five stars for a few reasons; A lot of people don't pick up their dogs poop, have poorly trained animals (I've got jumped on and mud everywhere), aggressive ones that they let off leash, no water station before/during/after the trail. The trash cans over fill quite often, there are a lot of homeless wandering the area and along with that there is trash just strewn about in those areas. It's improved since I was there last but just something to be aware of. read more

This is a great place for your doggie to run around off leash. Swimming, hiking and other doggos to play with. Only downside is there is a homeless camp in the dog park in the area closest to the freeway. 2 dogs from the camp came out and were circling our group. Thankfully they left without incident. Nice place to take a short hike and get your dog some exercise. It is HEAVILY used though. Many people don't clean up after their dogs, so especially at the beginning of the trails, it did not smell good. Also, many don't follow the signs posted (dogs shouldn't be allowed off-leash in the areas reserved for wildlife). This area has important salmon-spawning habitat and dogs can be very disruptive of that. We (us and our dogs) have SO MANY places to recreate, and salmon have so few. It's like Disney World for dogs. I would have given it 5 stars but I wouldn't recommend it for dogs that have a tendency to run off. It's too big if they get lost. I lost my little Chihuahua there and it was devastating and horribly tragic. She was only 4.5 Lbs. I moved here from California, so this place is a dream in comparison to what I was used to. I have heard cars get broken into here, I've never had that problem, but just as a precaution I always make sure nothing is in my car when I do go here. Over the summer, a few people reported seeing bears here. It does get very busy and a bit overwhelming on warm weekend days so I tend to go during off hours. Parking is hard to find on summer days. read more

FANTASTIC DOG PARK! This is probably the best place to take your pups in the Portland area as they can run and play to their loving hearts content. I had a pair of dogs I would take here every couple of months or so and let them go, lead me through the park and play. They had a blast and enjoyed the massive wide open spaces, vegetation and other dogs to meet. This also gives you a great space to walk and or run as well as you tag along with your pooch. Most of the people here are also dog lovers and generally have pretty well behaved pets, with some exceptions of course. My suggestion is to be sure you have good recall and training of your pet before you turn them loose as they can get away from you pretty quick - be it chasing after something or another dog who is not so well trained and behaved giving them grief. read more

This park is amazing in theory. The wide open spaces and numerous off-leash areas should be a dream. In practice, however, it's awful. The bathrooms are not maintained (not just one day, but weeks on end). The majority of people we've encountered completely disregard the leash signs for the main trail and have terrible attitudes. There also seems to be a problem with people bringing aggressive dogs and letting them off leash. My dog was the subject of a couple aggressive advances, so we stuck to a less populated part of the river. But we could see back and it was clear that more dogs were arriving with the same problem, and no one dealt with it. We didn't stick around to see a dog fight break out. But it was troublesome that it seems that most people there think they are their dogs are above reproach and the law. Practically, parking is easy. Costs $5 and you pay on your phone. Trails are well marked and well maintained. There is so much potential there, but sad that people have ruined it. read more

It's a beautiful place with lots of dogs but has a ton of foxtails which can be harmful and in some cases deadly to dogs. If it were just a park I couldn't say anything. But this is being advertised as a "dog park". I only recently heard of foxtails and researched the effects of this plant on dogs and I'm not willing to expose my dog. I'm not saying you should do the same but you should DEFINITELY know the potential hazards. You can help mitigate the harms from foxtails by thoroughly checking your dog after your visit. What you should also know, if your dog wheezes afterwards, you probably need to see a vet. Search for information on 'Foxtail and dogs' to be better informed. Wonderful dog recreation park. 1.25 miles from parking lot to the Sandy Delta. I got there before 8am on Labor Day and there was plenty of parking available. When I left around 10:00 there was no parking avail at the lot or on the street. There are two bathrooms available near the entrance as well as some RV parking spaces. Dogs! Dogs! Dogs! Good news, I saw a lot of dogs today. We took our pup to this place after hearing really good things about it. Lucky for us, the weather was gorgeous. This place is huge so we saw people and dogs (DOGS!) but it wasn't crazy. Everyone was really friendly and no issues with the dogs. Our pup was psyched. I haven't seen him be so happy to run and sniff and stand in mud puddles even though it was probably only 40 degrees out. Parking was packed and I'm sure in the summer months, it is as well. I loved the park. Came out with a friend to walk her dog. I didn't really know what to expect when I arrive. It was clean and spacious! Lots of pretty dogs running around and enjoying the outdoor weather as we were! It was a perfect day to go for a stroll! We went along the Sandy river side it's pretty long. We did about 4 miles which was just enough to make feel like I had achieved something! I'd go back just to take the route and jog on the path even without a dog! Overall experience great! This is THE BEST dog park! We have two German shorthair pointers that require a lot of exercise daily. This place provides the space needed for them to run, explore, stir up birds to chase, a river to swim in (cool off and get drinks, too), and shady areas on hot days. The river is much more shallow after those 100+ temps in late June. Either way, the river is relatively calm and easily navigated by dogs that know how and/or enjoy swimming. Bring your own toys to play fetch- not a lot of sticks around. Multiple access areas all along the river. Lots of trails, dog bags, garbage cans, friendly, respectful humans and dogs. The trails are clean. People hike, bike and I've seen remains of horse hooves and poop, so riding is allowed. There's some graffiti- I guess even thugs hike sometimes. We've never run into sketchy people, but we usually go mid morning or mid day. We saw a lot of glass in one area of the parking lot the other day. It was from several different car windows we assumed, as the glass in each parking spot was slightly different from each other. Again, I guess thugs sometimes get out into nature too . Don't leave anything in your car that's valuable and you'll probably be fine. Bring your own water (humans) because you can walk/hike for miles and not see the same scenery- that's how big it is. You need a parking pass. You can buy it online and it's good for a year. It took a few weeks for mine to arrive via mail. It's called a Northwest Forest Pass. read more

I have been coming out here with my dogs for close to 25 years. When it was still owned by the Port of Portland, it was much more wild than it is now-people never picked up after their dogs. But it was uncrowded and a great place to spend an afternoon. When the US Forest Service took it over, they turned it into a park. Originally they were going to ban dogs, but we formed a group that kept it open to dogs. A lot of the park is now off limits for wildlife restoration, so at times, the park gets crowded, confined to a fairly small area in comparison. The main issue is the parking. On nice days there will often be nothing open and I have waited 15+ minutes to get a space. I don't even bother going on warm Saturdays. On the other hand, it really is a gift to dog lovers. And that is who mostly uses this park, people and their dogs. The dogs are happy, the owners are responsible, and few problems occur. If you go there with a dog who is uncomfortable around other dogs and you prefer to keep them on leash, just know the other dogs will come up to your dog to sniff and play. Your dog might be happier at the myriad of on-leash parks and walks in the area. But for the rest, it's great! read more

Best dog park we visited in Portland! Parking can be tough and be sure not to park in the RV spot if you are not an RV as we saw them giving out tickets. Other than that this is a great spot to bring your pup. Tons of open space and other pups along the way for your dog to play with. There is a nice creek area as well and great views. Not a good place for young or small dogs that are intimidated by other dogs. Go somewhere else until your dog is ready. Watch out for car break ins. There were three in 45 minutes midday on a recent weekday - all with windows broken. The perp was driving a shiny black full size late model pickup. Can be hard to find parking on nice weekends and evenings. Need a federal parking permit. Horse and dog owners could do a better job cleaning up their animals' poop. The west edge of the park, close to the Sandy River, is home to homeless campers and their toilets. This is especially unfortunate since the shore of the Sandy is one of the best places to play with dogs. read more

My dog Tunk a truck Tank loves this place will go nose into the sand and then the water and look back at us like he doesn't know what happened . His girlfriend Lola also loves it and pushes him into the water like the bully she is. Always so cute to watch them wrestle and fight over sticks. The sand feels amazing between your toes if you get close to the water and the walking always makes you feel like you're out of the city.
