Dumplings are great. My kids love the noodles but I tried a chicken dish and a beef dish two different times and the meat was gross. Chicken was chewy and the beef was all gristle and hard. I've noticed that my last couple of reviews have been negative. I must need a vacation because this was one of the worst meals I've had in a long time. It's Friday evening and typically after we close our office my wife and I go to dinner. Well she's feeling under the weather and requested Chinese food hoping to get some Won Ton soup. We started at China Station but it was way too busy and no seats. We go a block west to this place. First, it's a building behind "The Bench" restaurant, but don't get them confused. OK we walk in and start checking the menu. Try to ask a couple of questions but the lady behind the counter seems to no understanding of English. My wife orders Pork and Chinese vegetables which, according to the menu, comes with soup and white rice. She asks for Won Ton soup. The lady says no. After a couple of minutes we finally figure out she's telling us only egg drop soup. Pay extra for Won Ton. WHAT? My wife who always and I mean always wants to be companionate says Ok we'll pay. She also asks for an order of Pork Gyoza. Again NO. Only vegetable Gyoza. Again my wife agrees. Now I order. Kung Bao Chicken. Of course only egg drop soup. OK, but can I have fried rice I ask? NO. OK I'll pay extra. She again tells me No. Food comes out. Worst and I mean worst Chinese food I've had since the Chinese food I had years ago Down Port, in what is now Lo Cal's. Egg drop soup? Who are you kidding this was not egg drop soup. Here's what was in it. Some sliced carrots, slices of onions. A little bit of celery, and a couple of pieces of boiled chicken. You guessed it " Chicken Soup", and not good at that. Needless to say we didn't finish and have no plans to ever ever go back. Oh yes, with this meal comes a hard boiled egg that was brown in color. My go-to order here is the pad Thai. It has a great flavor and is spicy! My biggest complaint with this dish at other restaurants is that they don't spice it enough. But 1089 does a great job with the heat. This is not the best pad Thai I've ever had, but it is one of the best in this area. I wish they had a shrimp option. We went her for the first time recently. The eatery is hidden all the way in the back between two buildings off of 25a in Stony Brook. If you weren't looking for it you'd never find, hence the reason this is my first visit. When you walk in there's not much when it comes to decor, pretty much four walls, a walk up counter to order and a few tables. From the looks of it they probably do more take out. We ordered the pad thai, chicken and brown with plain lo mein, lo mein with white rice and roast pork soup. The dishes were good. I go here since it's close to Stony Brook University. It's only a 15 minute walk from my dorm and a bit cheaper than Asian campus food. It's a bit overpriced compared to the prices I'm used to in New York City, but it's in Long Island. You can have a filling meal for less than $10! Ten 89 is a bit hard to locate if you're going for the first time at night. They have a sign, but you have to walk a bit to find the actual store. Service is good and they know how to communicate well in English. I ordered both delivery and sat inside the store. Delivery was a bit weird since my friends and I were paying by card. The person on the phone asked for all the digits of the credit card and the security code on the back.. It made us feel somewhat unsafe since they could find ways to charge through credit, like having a machine connected to their phones or something when they bring us the delivery. The food is good and the fried rice reminded me of something my mom would make me when I was a child. When I ordered delivery for noodles, I felt as if the portions were a bit small. I first got their white thick noodles when I asked for udon. They have pictures in store for customers to choose their desired noodle. When I sat inside to eat, my food was filled to the top. Ten 89 Noodle House is an Asian restaurant. It is located near Stonybrook University. I have driven by it thousands of times. Tonight my friend wants to have dinner here. Okay, I pretty much do whatever she tells me especially since I do respect her taste in dining. She's a closet "foodie". It's cold out and rainy so I'm thinking a nice bowl of soup will do me good. It's a small building behind another restaurant and parking is okay. We go in and you have to go up to the register to order your meal. The menu is in Chinese and English. My friend orders a wonton noodle bowl. And I notice they have Mei Fun with pork/beef/chicken/shrimp/vegetable. So I tell them I want a house version which traditionally is all of that all together. She says we don't have that. Okay, then the guy next to her mumbles something in Chinese and she says okay we have that. Yayyy, I'm getting House Mei Fun $10.95. Oh and I ordered a wonton noodle bowl too $6.95. So we sit and wait for just a few minutes and out comes our food. Nice and HOT!!! It's all served in take out dishes. The soup was really good. The house Mei Fun had a lot of ginger in it, not my favorite, but after getting past that I really liked it. I would definitely come back here!!! In fact, I'm thinking about going back on the weekend!! I have to add that the menu does list a lot of your traditional Chinese/American dishes. But I think it expands more on the authentic Chinese cuisine as well. They cater to the Asian student population from the university as well. This restaurant was the worst experience. It was my first time in general, and I made the fatal mistake of ordering delivery for dinner. I paid for the food with my debit card over the phone and for the tip with cash in person. My fault was signing the receipt without writing the final price because, guess what the delivery man did? HE WROTE ADDITIONAL $4 TIP FOR HIMSELF. Had I not recently checked my bank statement, I would have never noticed. I called back to the store to make sure this doesn't happen again but communication was difficult because the employees are not fluent in English. When I finally got in contact with the person in charge, she wasn't much apologetic and tried to cover for her worker: apparently, he isn't the type of person to do such a thing. Well, i'm not the type of person to complain about four dollars. Moreover the situation could not be cleared asap because the delivery man only works on Sundays. She didn't put in any effort to call him until I asked twice. I am not mad about paying $7.50 for tip but rather about this unfortunate experience that I had to go through. I'm not sure if deceit is part of their service but I question whether it is the delivery man's first time in forging a customer's handwriting. Really fast service although my friends and I were basically the only ones in the restaurant on a snowy night. This is a small restaurant but nice interior with cute lights up for the holidays. I ordered the Winter Cabbage and Shredded Pork Soup noodles and scallion pancakes. The scallion pancakes were oily but good texture. The soup and noodles were really delicious though! Another dinner with my fellow yelper bestie! My suggestion to come here... had the wonton noodle soup. Very tasty. Fast service. My friend ordered the same and the house mei fun.... never had it before tonight but it was very tasty... my friend is not a ginger lover but i am.... when she says its very "gingery" i almost get excited because i know that means its super yummy. Small place but clean... chinese tv. Order at the counter and its brought to your table. A little bit of a language barrier but i appreciate the authenticity of the meal. This is my go-to Chinese restaurant out on the island. It's not my favorite Chinese food ever, but it's as good as it's gotten for me since moving out to the area. I eat really stereotypical American fake Chinese food, so I am sorry for the uselessness of this review, but the chicken with broccoli is quite excellent here. The dumplings are tasty and greasy if you get 'em fried but still tasty without so much of the grease if you get 'em pan steamed. The egg roll here is one of my favorites ever, and I know that boyfriend agrees. Sometimes I just for the sesame pancake, which isn't quite as good as the fluffy pillows produced by Vanessa's back in the city, but it's still delicious. And the food is fairly cheap! My only complaints: the containers they use to package sauces tend to leak, and the leakage is worse if you have the food delivered. And delivery can be really quick, or really, really long. If you went to a middle of the road restaurant in China, Ten 89 Noodle House could be one of them. That is much more than I can say about the other 'chinese' restaurants in the area. When you walk into a Chinese restaurant and there is almost no English being spoken, it's a good sign. Most of the other places I've been to on LI have been filled with White people, not a good sign. I recommend the eggplant with pork (great) or some of the vegetable dishes. I don't recommend the fried rice (bland) or the Beef Noodle Soup (the national dish of my home country, Taiwan, which they do not even come close to doing justice to) In conclusion, I will continue to eat here regularly. Prices are veryyyyyy reasonable. There's no need to worry about burning a hole in your pocket. From seeing all the reviews, I had to try that Braised Beef Noodle Soup. I asked for them to made it a bit extra spicy and with udon noodles. Overall, it was delicious. The beef was tender and the broth was extremely flavorful. And the portions are nicely sized -- I couldn't finish it all. Not as spicy as I would have thought but I'd definitely kick it up a notch next time I order it. Only thing I want to note is that I wished they included more pieces of beef. We also ordered the scallion pancakes which.... were not as good. They were overly greasy and to be honest, not much flavor going on. I regret not trying the dumplings since they seem to be a big hit... oh well, next time! I'll have to make a point to come here during the "off-season" since I'm sure when school is in session, this place is packed full of college students. This is an OK fast chinese food place to take out or have a quick and casual meal if you're nearby. We ordered the yelp recommnended braised beef soup, roast pork chow fun, and house chicken over rice. The braised beef soup had 3 generous sized chunks of beef, some veggies, and noodles in a decent tasting broth. The chow fun was pretty tasty and had a nice texture. It was mixed with the expected artificially pink pork strips. The house chicken over rice was way too salty and the dish needed more side dishes!! I'm not quite sure what they do that is different, but the food here is lightyears ahead of other Chinese food. It's always hot, fresh, and good. Bonus points because it is competitively priced. The noodle dishes in particular are delish. Beware: the dishes that are marked as hot and spicy are like next level spicy. I got the chicken with green peppers once and it was horrific. The seating area is low budget but it's not gross. Some employees come across as a little rude, but I think it's a cultural thing, and the food more than makes up for it. read more

The pork fried rice, chicken chow mein (no longer on menu) and egg rolls tasted Smokey and delicious- like old school Cantonese Chinese American food. We recently ordered and found the food to be unpalatable. Egg rolls not the same flavor and greasy.
